It is pretty awesome seeing how the developers of Mario Kart have taken such creative adaptations to old concepts while keeping true to the elements that made the stages enjoyable in their original incarnations.
Fantastic side-by-side footage as well by the way!

Jokes aside, that ruins the purpose of the track, i remember that the track was very hard on the Wii as I would always either fall or hit a mine cart.

I'd just like to say how grateful i am that the footage is synced, even if it means adjusting the speed of them. it kind of defeats the purpose of a comparison when you're comparing like the other half of the track because the footage couldn't keep up with the other

Not all all. As I was a coder in that era, wrote for the SNES too, GBA, PS1. Also 3D engines on the PC. Now I recall when the first computers I played games on were the ZX-81. In 10 years after that - incredible progress! I would have expected MORE by now to be honest! Yes, I would have been thrilled to see 30 years ahead, but I would have expected VR use by now, not just high res big screens. I would have expected to not tell the difference (that much) between the real world and the virtual world! There is some evidence from reading recent books like Matt Ridleys on Innovation, that innovation has been slowing a lot since the 80s. And there are reasons for it which Matt goes into.

@@circuit10 That is right, it was so simple and yet beautiful. I own the 64, DS and 3DS versions and I love them. But the WiiU/Switch one gives me really mixed feelings. I don't want video games to look that realistic and detailed, I want them to look like games. Call me old-fashioned but I want no more digital growth at all. Where will this lead? I know, video games are the smallest problem, but that is, where you notice it af first. You can't even see the difference of an animation and a real video with bare eye!

Like countless Toads told them all “Hey, while you guys weren’t using this track we took a few creative liberties!” Or in the case of Donut Plains, “THE BRIDGE IS BROKEN?! Outside of the general driving improvements, the upgrade to retro tracks in Mario Kart 8 was the best thing in the game. And makes me want more retro tracks. Like...every single track. I'd have paid for them through DLC. My reasoning is that they took some levels I really didn't like (Donut Plains 2 and Wario Stadium) and improved the immensely in Mario Kart 8. They didn't just remake them with better graphics but redesigned them entirely around the new driving physics. So now I'd like to see some levels like Peach Garden or Shroom Hill get the same improvement. As well as levels I already liked (Waluigi Pinball please).
The only bad change was how they reduced Rainbow Road 64 to one lap. Really should have fixed that in Deluxe.

      7. Mario Kart 64
Jesus, why are the tracks scaled so *big?*
      6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Despite the fact 200cc exists, the CPUs aren't amazing, because of having 12 characters the road tends to be very wide as well.

Tracks are getting a little difficult now... but still easy enough.
      4. Mario Kart Wii
      Chaotic as hell.
      3. Mario Kart Double Dash
The CPUs are WAY too good even on low cc.
      2. Mario Kart DS

They're not. The clips from the originals in the video are either sped up or slowed down to match the newer versions. Watch the timer for the super mario kart tracks, you can see the footage is slowed by nearly 2 times, and the MK64 clips are sped up a bit too.

Rainbow Road 64 remake is so rich and charming.... Ribbon Road had the biggest glow-up, going from a decent track on one of the least loved Mario Kart games to one of the CUTEST tracks in MK history. I enjoy how the Wii track upgrades most prominent feature is mood lighting; Wario Goldmine and Grumble Volcano aren't very different in the remake, but their colouring is more realistic and immersive. Nighttime Sherbet Land was also such a great idea.

    • @ChaoticMushy
      @ChaoticMushy 6 лет назад

well they had to make it bigger to fit all 12 characters and if it was still as narrow as they were, it would be impossible to complete with normal driving standards (you know like drifting) but even with the bigger road, it's still difficult
