    You give it 9/10 both on streaming services and ease of use. Does this mean that it is now easy to add tracks from different streaming services into the play queue?
    In general, how easy is it to manipulate the play queue e.g. moving, adding or removing tracks?

    When doing the comparison with the master edition, were they used as streamer/dac/preamps? or was it a fair dac vs dac matchup? I do understand that the biggest difference of the a6 master and the a8 is the preamp section right? So without using them as preamps, is the upgrade still huge?

    If you base ratings on price, you need to give some kind of price multiplier rating as well so we do know how it actually stacks up to the $10,000 item. Or just base everything on the same scale, price shouldn't matter. The customer can decide if the price is worth it after that.

    • @EliteAudioUK
      @EliteAudioUK  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hello, and thank you so much for your feedback. When it comes to performance ratings, they are indeed contextual and linked directly to the product's price point. This approach is common across various platforms, including magazines and online resources. For instance, a device worth £10k with an 8/10 rating may outperform a £2k device rated 9/10. However, when considering a budget of £2k, the rating becomes relevant within that specific financial context. I trust this clarification helps. Cheers, Mark. :)

    Big plus for the A8 is sideloading. You can grab the APK files for Android apps and load them onto the A8. For exmaple i loaded Bandcamp on my demo unit, it doesn't look that great on a phone but better on a tablet. Works perfectly which is the main thing. Also appreciated being able to connect my TT into it aswell.

      Hi Lars, that's a great question! Both the DMP-A8 and Lumin D3 are high-quality DACs, each with their own unique sound characteristics. The DMP-A8 uses AKM's top-of-the-line DAC chip which is known for its smooth and detailed sound reproduction.
      The best way to compare would be through a direct A/B test in your listening environment, as personal preference plays a significant role in perceived sound quality. Also, remember that the overall system synergy, including the amplifier and speakers, will also impact the final sound.

    • @kemosabe551
      @kemosabe551 6 месяцев назад +4

      I am also on the fence now, choosing between the 9000N, and this DMP-8. The 9000N DAC is based on dual ESS9038PRO chips, as is the Lumen X1 ($10K). I have not heard it, but it reviews very well. I am sure it is spectacular too, like this AKM based DAC in the DMP-8. Here’s the thing that is pushing me toward the DMP-8: the Eversolo allows external digital inputs to use the DAC as well. The 9000N does not accept digital inputs, such as a CD transport; the DAC is dedicated to the streaming sources. So, system integration allowed by the DMP-8 seems like a winner to me. Cheers.

      Good morning and thank you for your comments. Both are great and if you heard the 9000N on its own, you'd love it. The Cambridge Audio Edge A uses an ESS Sabre DAC chip and sounds phenomenal. @Elite Audio Hi I been thinking about getting the A8, but then I saw a comment below saying that the designer said the chip could get very warm, and then you wrote to him that maybe it would be a good idea to turn it off when not playing. If that is the case I dont think this product is for me :( I dont want to turn it off everytime im done playing, and then having to turn it on when I want to play, I want it to be ready at all times like I have with my current bluesound node 2i. Can you tell me if I have to turn it off or not ? At this price range they should have thought about that and added something to cool the chip down.

    • @artfartzy
      @artfartzy 5 месяцев назад

      I asked bings AI for fun but not sure if it's true or not, this is what it said:
      No, you do not have to turn off the Eversolo A8 when not playing music.
      The Eversolo A8 chip is part of the digital power supply and it is designed to handle the complex processing and decoding tasks of the streamer. It has a built-in heat sink and a fan that can dissipate the heat generated by the chip. The fan is controlled by a smart temperature sensor that can adjust the speed and the noise level according to the ambient temperature and the workload of the chip. The fan is also very quiet and does not interfere with the sound quality of the streamer.
      Therefore, you do not have to worry about the Eversolo A8 chip getting too hot or damaging the streamer. You can leave the streamer on standby mode when not playing music and it will consume very little power and generate very little heat. You can also use the remote control or the app to turn on or off the streamer as you wish

    Ironically I went looking for this video earlier tonight in the States I've been waiting with baited breath for it to arrive....Only to be posted about an hour later. It didnt disappoint :)
    The only thing the A8 is "missing" for features is they unfortunately substituted the unique multi-channel HDMI output of the A6 for a stereo i2s in the A8. I wish they would have kept *both* because at the moment I would use the former a lot more than the latter with my multi-channel DSD files.
    My only hesitation is I have an Oppo 205 that literally does 90% what a streamer does....except stream Qobuz in high resolution. I also have a state-of-the-art Audio Research MP1 multi-channel preamp to couple with the multi-channel Oppo... So I would not use the preamp portion of this either. So now it's down to the streamer & DAC functions. From what I hear it's still worth it's asking price for those alone.
    Streamers live and die by their streaming module and their app...and I hear nothing but good things about the Eversolo implementation. I mean who wants the monkey around with all those confusing Raspberry Pi "applets" if you don't have to. Don't get me started on the ridiculously expensive Roon, who's now been taken over by that shady, questionable-practice company that certainly leaves its future success very much up in the air. So many of the streamers out there (I'm talking to you Cary & Innuos... and even the iOS only Auralic leaves Android users out in the cold) fail miserably on that front.
    Should be interesting to get your post holiday further comparisons. You should try to get the also-hot Gustard R26 (R2R DAC) and A26 (same chip setup as A8) to compare them against each other and the ES.

What I do find pretty ridiculous is you would think open boxes or previous returns could be returned again with no restock fee because the box is already open but half the time those aren't returnable at all? I don't get that business practice.
      Anyway, especially with audio equipment, a lot of shops like I'm sure Elite understand you have to try it in your own system because synergy is literally half the battle. In the case of the A8, it supposedly gets better and more revealing with burn in. Find out what the return days are & send it back at the very last minute. In the interim, run a burn-in on it 24 hours a day playing something constant and then see if the sound improves to your liking.
      Ironically, I would probably get the A6 as well because of the HDMI multi-channel output (into my Oppo 205) since I have a whole lot of files in DSD64 mutichannel...that's for sure.
      Also consider: it's already being back ordered so you should have no problem selling it on a free site like (Your Country) Audio Mart (aggregated by HiFishark) if you want to try to get full price. Shipping would be less than most restock fees.

      @@scottmuhlbaier1945 all great points and advice, thank you! The worst thing is that this stuff has 50% margin or more in it for the dealers, so there's really no reason for the restocking fee. I get that it discourages people from buying with no intent to keep the equipment, but in my case the unit also has cosmetic issues and some software bugs that are more than mildly irritating (I can't even connect to the unit half the time). Despite that, I still get hit with the full restocking fee. Needless to say, I won't be doing business with that company anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @scottmuhlbaier1945
      @scottmuhlbaier1945 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@loxxriderIf there's cosmetic issues alone, you should contact them about having a faulty unit. I read their return policy and I only see a restocking fee for projectors. If it's in pristine shape they should not charge that from what I read.. take them to town on it :) If you're in the US, a friend of mine is a full Eversolo dealer, as well as many other highly regarded brands. Hopefully Elite (in UK/Scotland) doesn't mind me relaying a US dealer here because I can't see many people ordering from the US that are in the UK...or visa versa :). Rob from Audio Art Cable (from my hometown in CA) is definitely someone you want to talk to if you're in the US . Tell him "Tall Scott" sent you :-)

      Hi Tony, many thanks indeed for the question. The answer is VERY good, hence it won our product of the year 2023. It wont beat say a £3k dedicated pre, however in the context of what it costs, its a remarkable piece of equipment. Cheers, Mark :)

      It's understandable to perceive the release of a new model so soon as an indication of inconsistency. However, it's essential to note that Eversolo are simply diversifying their product line to cater to different customer needs and budgets. Each model has its unique specifications and price points. It's all about giving consumers more options to choose from based on their specific needs and budget. Innovation and variety are key factors in a competitive market, and Eversolo is demonstrating just that. Cheers, Mark :)

    I wonder why if "It wants for nothing in terms of connectivity" you didnt give it a 10?

    • @EliteAudioUK
      @EliteAudioUK  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Steve,
      Thank you for your insightful comment. You're absolutely correct. While the device is indeed quite comprehensive in its connectivity options, it did fall short by not including AES/EBU inputs or outputs, which are critical for some users. This omission was the primary reason we deducted a point, bringing the score to 9/10.
      We strive to give balanced and detailed reviews so that potential buyers can make informed decisions. Your question helps clarify this point further, and I appreciate your engagement.
      Cheers
      Mark :)

      I would add the fact that it has no hdmi out (so one cant listen to multichannel audio through an HT), no balance control, (yes an external amp has that, but one would think as a "pre amp" it would have that, saves messing with other units, and not even on remote)...... and the kicker here is...... no headphone out..... i guess i will have to buy a "headphone dac" and connect that way.......
      Thanks for all you do Mark, all of your work (and your teams) is greatly appreciated here..... Cheers,
      Mcr UK.

    Maybe its just me, but I’ve been afflicted on off with this disease called materialism somewhat related to enjoying music, and on earth for nearly 60 years now. Been lucky to spend too much money on trying to cure the disease, but one thing keeps coming to mind is you take high fidelity from 10, 20 even 30 year old stuff, and back then the experts said they were the truest to the original recording, A++++, A+, B - , golden, etc etc. We listen to the same today and its still getting better. Who knew vinyl, CDs and zappers are like fine wine, must be why original pressings are getting more expensive since they then seem sound better with time. Why dont we all wait for genius in 20 years to invent even better reproduction. The same recording will sound better than the original. Just buy buy buy. And here i just spent 10k on 2 cartridges today. They better sound better. All in good fun.

      Good morning Pierre! Your message resonates with many of us, and I appreciate your candid reflections on the ever-evolving pursuit of audio perfection. It's a fascinating journey to observe how technologies from even 10, 20, or 30 years ago - once hailed as the epitome of high fidelity - continue to be refined and improved upon.
      Indeed, like a fine wine, vinyl and even CD have matured over time. As you pointed out, perhaps this is why original pressings are becoming more valuable; they offer a unique sonic character that seems to only get better with age.
      You've raised an interesting thought about waiting for future innovations. Perhaps in 20 years, we'll witness technological leaps that make our current audio systems seem rudimentary. However, part of the allure of this pursuit is experiencing the journey itself - the excitement of each new breakthrough, the anticipation of the next 'big thing', and the joy of hearing our favourite recordings in ways we never thought possible.
      On a lighter note, congratulations on your new cartridges! With a significant investment like that, I'm sure they will add a new dimension to your listening experience. As we say in the audio world, 'the joy is in the journey'. So let's keep seeking, experimenting, and enjoying the ride. Here's to many more years of audio adventures!
      Cheers
      Mark :)

      Good morning and thank you for your comment. It's understandable to perceive the release of a new model so soon as an indication of inconsistency. It's essential to note that Eversolo is not a rookie in this field. They are simply diversifying their product line to cater to different customer needs and budgets. Each model has its unique specifications and price points. If they do in fact release an A10 it will no doubt have its advantages at a much higher cost, but that doesn't diminish the value and quality that the DMP-A8 offers. It's all about giving consumers more options to choose from based on their specific needs and budget. Innovation and variety are key factors in a competitive market, and Eversolo is demonstrating just that. Cheers, Mark :)
