I left FNaF behind almost 2 years ago now but it was an absolute blast and a big part of my life from early 2015-mid 2019. Basically Junior High up until my Junior year. Who knows maybe I'll come back to it someday. Thank you Scott for the fun memories.
I'm part of the LGBTQ community, and I think the reaction here was so unecessary. I know this was a while ago, but I just want to give my two cents. I've loved FNAF for such a long time, and still do, even more nowadays that I'm older, it was a big part of my childhood, and also a big part of many other people's childhoods as well, so much so that it spawned so many passion projects and fangames out there, and for that, I respect Scott a LOT, EVEN if he made a mistake supporting these anti-LGBT charities (in my personal opinion). People screw up, it happens y'know. This doesn't diminish my appreciation for Mr. Cawthon, and I dunno, that's just how I feel. He's not a villain here, he just messed up. Unlike Notch for example, who kinda deserves the critcism he got... FNAF is and I know it'll always be awesome. Thanks, Scott, for everything.

honestly, this case is really conflicting. i can understand the anger towards him, except the people that wntd too far, of course. personally though, i have respect for the guy. i can understand that the donations were for unrelated things, though i could not, bring myself to support him financially knowing that some of that money may go to people who work towards harming me and people like me. also, to the people going "oh grr its because of these lgbt sjws grr!"; its the internet. it brings out the worst parts of everyone. i can guarantee you such vile harassment comes from and goes towards any side of the internet, for the mildest of reasons.
I agree that the people who sent Scott and his family death threats and doxxed him have no right to do so, and honestly it's messed up that they would do that knowing he has kids and a wife who have nothing to do with his political beliefs. However, I will say I don't agree with Scott's donations at all (especially the ones for Trump and Mitch McConnell) nor do I agree with his pro-life stance, it's part of the reasons I buying the games after Sister Location. Also, while Scott's done a lot for charity I don't feel like works as a counter point to how people feel about the political donations (especially those in the LGBTQ community). The people who get those donations do just as much damage as the donations Scott gives do good, maybe more so, and while he had his reasons to give to them I don't think they justify the harm he knew the politicians could do/have done. Either way I hope Scott can have a quiet life with his family, where they don't have to worry about insane fans or people sending them threats. No one deserves to have their loved ones threatened.

As someone in the LGBT community, I 100% agree. he didn't deserve any of this. I don't agree with him politically but that doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment of the series, and I'm thankful for everything he did for the FNAF series, and the other great things he did.

Honestly he is a Christian, him donating to anti-LGBTQ organisations is his freedom. If you don’t like it, you can criticise it, but you can’t do anything more than that. The LGBTQ community is really self-important, fact is the world is not just about them. Scott didn’t just donate to anti-LGBTQ, he also donates to St. Jude’s, charity etc. He created the most thought provoking game series that inspired many kids to think critically and find out information in various means, he’s a great man. Let us remember the right to freedom of religion is as valid as their right to love.

The situation has left me with mixed feelings and I'm really not sure what kind of conclusion I ought to draw from it. To clear the air, I will never condone doxxing and death threats. That kind of behavior is indefensible. And his family should be left alone; they aren't involved here. I'm not ready to “stand with” Cawthorn, though. I'm LGBT, and I can't just turn a blind eye to what he did. In the back of my mind I've suspected this might happen for a while, but I still felt betrayed to hear that he donates to right-wingers. Even now, after the clownery that the Trump administration put us through. I don't think Scott Cawthorn is a bad person who wants to hurt anyone, but apparently he will put money towards supporting politicians who ARE bad people with the intent to harm. And I can't “stand with” him if he's going to do that. Some in this very comment section have argued free speech and freedom of religion, but I think they're missing the point. Cawthorn didn't just say things, and nobody is angry at him for being Christian. His choice to donate to conservative causes has material consequences, and some (I included) believe that those consequences are that certain people groups will be hurt. For as much as people might complain about a perceived woke agenda, LGBT rights in the US are very young and very fragile. I take potential threats to them dead serious. In this country, you have the freedom of religion, but you don't have the freedom to trample on other people's rights.
