  • Hey Y’all! Check this out! This is the new Arrma Gorgon! And man is it colorful! Get this… This 2wd basher comes in Black, Yellow, Blue, Red and Blue, and has body sets with bumpers and skid plates in Orange, Purple, Green, and Red and Black! Plus some pink parts thrown into the mix for good measure. Based on the original Arrma chassis designs of the Vorteks, Granite, Fury and Raider they did an excellent job at this introductory model bringing some goodies and a lot of fun. Running off its stock 25 amp combo esc/receiver it can run on Nimh or 2s Lipo batteries and with its .8 mod metal gears can easily be converted to a brushless system. In fact, to date I don’t think I’ve seen a beginner vehicle come set up for such an easy swap!!!
    And man was it fun!
    Apologies for the volume issues and patchy videography but I had a mic issue and decided to film in a location that got much busier than expected! Nonetheless we got the footage and there’s some cool info in there so it’s worth a watch if you’re interested in this truck!
    With S.L. Jackson driving you know things are gonna get wild!
    You can find the car here - www.arrma-rc.c...
    And from there navigate to your favorite version - kit, with or without battery, and all the colored parts currently on preorder!
    NOTE - I AM NOT ENDORSED BY ANY MANUFACTURER! I CALL IT LIKE I SEE IT! If I were to receive something from a company you’d still get an honest reaction. I love RC and hope to attract as many people to the hobby as I can. Wouldn’t be doing anyone any favors if I endorsed junk. (watch my Remoking Thunder or HPI King Crawler if ya want the proof!)

    Are you sure the kit assembler didnt mix up the springs and put the weaker front spring rate springs on the back? I like these, they're cheap and accessible. They're the 2020's Lunchbox.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  Год назад

      I have the 2020's Lunchbox and the springs might be close but the rest of the build is definitely sturdier. The plastic isn't the typical Tamiya hard ABS and the shocks in the Gorgon kit load oil from the bottom but have a normal top. Not like those little doohickies that stick up on the Lunchbox which is literally my first upgrade on those kits. I have a black edition right here waiting to be built with the upgraded shocks taped to the top of it. Otherwise the performance feels very Lunchbox except the large body clips that hold on the soft rubber mounts inside make this thing absorb impact very well. It's a great comparison though! Thanks for your comment!

      @BasedF-15Pilot Год назад +1

      @@redvikinghobbies Oh yeah I am sure the Gorgon is a way better vehicle than the Lunchbox. When I was a kid the Lunchbox was all I could afford when my friends had RC10s or JRx etc. I have one of these Gorgons on order. I only recently got back into RC after retiring but I like Arrma's approach with this truck. Cheap, looks cool, has a cool name, big monster tires.

      @BasedF-15Pilot You'll have a blast. Super fun. Ironically I did a standalone Stampede video after so it wouldn't be dated by the Gorgon. My 9 year old has run both and loves the Stampede. I was positive he'd pick the Gorgon but when I asked him why, thinking the snakes and design of the Gorgon easily, he said it was the wheelie popping of the Stampede that excited him the most. I have what I need and am doing the brushless conversion after I do my comparison video but it definitely shocked me. Now it's a no brainer that the Stampede with that Traxxas Titan 12T weight behind the axle makes it wheelie easier but he also liked the visibility of the clips! Even though there's 6 to deal with. And my older son burnt his hand on the Gorgon twice picking it up so jury is out. And availability with Arrma/Horizon is legit. I ordered a second car, and 3 body sets...purple, green, and orange and nothing has been shipped. And I know when Traxxas has in stock very easily and they're everywhere at hobbyshops right now. Domestically the Redcat Volcano EPX brushed is a phenomenal 4x4 starter and still gonna be my recommendation unless I see more Gorgons out in the wild but I was shocked they liked the Stampede so much. If anything I think because it's coming up on its 30 year anniversary is why I didn't go crazy over it but both my boys were more impressed with it. I was not expecting that. At all.

    I have a Faizon voltage I think this chassis closer to that than the one you're talking about.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  Год назад

      Yeah the Faizon Voltage is pretty close too. I could've brought any of them out but the ones I mentioned had those 3 two hole spots on them so I just grabbed the Vorteks because I had it handy with wheels off. The Faizon had those battery packs slots in the side though and I wanted to grab one of the originals that had the bottom battery tray like the Fury, Raider, Vorteks, and Granite. My only point even in doing so was to show they went back in time a bit for this chassis after releasing the Boost Program in 2022 with 3- 2wd options that could go 4x4. And now other than on places like Amazon and Ebay the Boost system is an in store only car which is really odd. If they discontinue the Boost program they will have gotten rid of those 3, The Vendetta, and The Talion EXB rtr all in the same year to go backwards in chassis design. Turns out it works great for this Gorgon so maybe it's a good move. Still unsure about a 4s Mojave for $499 with what you get out of a 6s and feel like it's a bizarre offering, like the Senton 6s, but we'll see. Thanks for bringing up the Faizon for all the people that enjoyed that car!

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  Год назад

      Tough question. The Granite 4x2 is now an "in store only" product. So I don't know if it will be continued. As for the Gorgon it's brand new so I can't say there either. You can go further with a Granite 4x2 chassis in the long run but by then he may be bored and the Gorgon might've just been fine. I'll tell you this though, in the 4x2 market you can't go wrong with the Stampede, Rustler, or Slash and my son liked the Stampede better than the Gorgon. Or you can get the licensed Bigfoot body (still a Stampede.) Check out that video I put up. Can't go wrong getting Traxxas parts if that's a big concern. And I should've done this in the Stampede video but in addition to the 4 colors there are upgrades everywhere under accessories for the Stampede that cross over to the Rustler and there's probably another 5 body colors for the car. I ordered myself the Rock n Roll body, wheelie bar, better wheelie wheels, colorored hardened control arms, front and back, picked up a Gpm bumper, and a heatsink. Might be other stuff in that order for the Stampede cause I bought a bunch of Traxxas stuff but there's no worrying about discontinue or finding parts. The one I reviewed is the XL-5 USB-C and has been around since 94 with very little changes. Coming up on 30 years and is a wheelie monster. We enjoyed them both but by 9 year old liked the Stampede over the Gorgon to my surprise.

    How do you think the electronics will hold up to water and mud ?

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  Месяц назад

      Great 👍 Aside from having the Spektrum warranty it's very easy to clean. I give this thing the hose off and the WD40 treatment for a night, spray it with air and it's ready to go. The wd40 will help clean anything left behind after the spray down and lubricate the rig for years to come. I do this after every run with most of my cars. Some people swear by it and others dislike it but for bashers it's my go to method. In the future things will break and you'll need to replace them anyway but you won't have rust issues. With some models that are painted kits wd40 isn't advised. It'll affect the paint. It's also terrible for any planes with foam. If you're ever worried about electronics and water in rc buy some cinformal coating. I use the ducky spray. Specifically for rigs like my crawlers that will be wet all the time. Here's a link if you want to learn more which will be advantageous to vehicles your purchase in the future.

    There should have been a ready to assemble kit without battery and charger too. Or a roller version.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  11 месяцев назад

      Completely agree. Don't know if we'd need the roller but definitely the kit without the battery and charger so we could do our own electronics. Horizon is odd like that though. They never did a Mojave EXB RTR but did the roller. Every other EXB got an RTR. Then they discontinue the Mojave EXB roller, come out with a 4s, then a 6s Big Rock and then immediately a 6s EXB tricked out Kraton. Can't figure out why they went 6s Big Rock instead of 6s Big Rock EXB if they were gonna do the Kraton anyway. Makes it tough for me to justify the 6s Big Rock purchase now, though I love the look, with the new Kraton out. I'd definitely buy that first.
      But to your roller point I think the chassis is so tough to modify vs. a Granite and the wheels are so soft they'd have to give those rollers away cheap. Not a flexible design. Meanwhile they still got some Boosts out there and Voltage and Megas and gave us a 16th Grom. Just odd. And frankly the Vendetta was such a trick ride I was stunned that went less than 2 years after it came out but fireteam stayed. The only one I understand is the Talion. You don't need the Talion and Kraton. Even though I like the Talion look better. The Kraton is now superior stock to the Traxxas Sledge so there's no need for a Talion. But they make weird decisions over there at Horizon.
      Thanks so much for your comment! Have fun out there! Cheers!

    The problem with Arrma models is that they launch a product and it is on the market for a short time, then they discontinue it, perhaps they are resistant products; but compared to traxas stampede slash rustler 2wd brushed motor they have been on the market for a long time and do not change their configurations, it means that there are spare parts and supports on the market, the question would be if in 5 or 10 years the gorgon weapon will still be valid ?

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  Год назад +1

      You're spot on but I'm not sure that's Arrma's call, or if Arrma is just a department at Horizon. I think, and I doubt anyone except Horizon Hobby would disagree, that Horizon Hobby is the issue. I ordered my Losi Promoto at launch and still didn't receive it. Got one at a great price on Ebay. And I mean that. 50 over MSRP. Got lucky. But the Boost program was a great idea and you got a lot for your money. Like I show in the video this chassis goes back a ways. All the Boost chassis are good. This one is going to leave a little bit to be desired and there's gonna be a lot of cutting for bigger brushless builds i.e. 4s batteries and up. It's not something I will do but have already seen done and they ruined the car. I mentioned to someone in another answer I don't understand the Mojave 4s offering coming although I'm sure it will be fun. I don't understand the whole Vendetta thing. What a beast. But since what I've seen in discontinued in Axial and Losi I think this is more likely a Horizon Hobby problem. I don't think they want to be in surface rc anymore. However, a cheap offering like this with so many color ways may be a revamp of what we've come to expect from Arrma. I've ordered 3 different body color sets and another car. I've got the brushless stuff ready to go to make the conversion but I'm doing the new Stampede USB-C offering from Traxxas now and can say I'm not ecstatic that it's all Philip's head screws. And there's been a lot of Stampedes but I haven't had one in many years. I'm picking up the 4x4 which takes us back to hex but they offer the hex head or Allen heads as an upgrade for this $199.99 car. That's not my idea of the kind of upgrades I want to do. I'm also not happy that the base Slash/Bandit/and Rustler are gone. Those were ready to race models that we've been doing for years successfully. Those were hex and my go to recommendations until the introduction of the Traxxas LED models and the new 272 transmission. Couldn't recommend that until I learned it and it put dealer's in a spot where they had to carry too many cars. Now that they're thinning the herd we'll see what happens but even the Bigfoot which I think is $225 is Phillips. I'm an electric screwdriver and drill guy. I'm gonna be stripping screws left and right.
      But you're not wrong about availability. This Christmas season will tell us a lot.
      Thanks so much for your comment and I do hope you subscribe and chime in on that Stampede video! Cheers!

    My new gorgon is faster in reverse. Anyone else experienced this?

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  4 месяца назад

      @editprevent Great question and some general knowledge. But first things first let's go to what may be the issue. Sometimes at the factory the connections are just wrong. They do thousands of these. So reversing your transmitter wire on the combo esc/receiver may do the trick. Just take the throttle wire out and put it in backwards. Try the car again.
      The normal order of things would be check controller for throttle reverse (don't think the Gorgon has that, mine is now in a DX3)
      Check that brushed motor wires are not reversed into esc
      Check that transmitter is in neutral positions when turning on
      Check transmitter wire is in the proper orientation (it may be wrong from factory.)
      Check vehicle is not in training mode
      Check vehicle is not at throttle calibration of 50, 75%
      If new transmitter is used other than factory do hard reset and make sure all transmitter outs are in neutral position
      Best of luck, and thanks for the question!

    • @editprevent
      @editprevent 4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks man, I hadn't found any info on this issue. It seems to be more of a brushless associated problem, from what I've read.I appreciate your time and knowledge. Will try your suggestions.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  4 месяца назад

      @editprevent It's usually reversed wires with brushless or someone put their diffs back in backwards which is possible on many models. The brushless motors are actually not directional. The esc decides the order the magnets are engaged to establish direction. So flipping those wires around just changes the direction. They don't have a ground wire per se. Those 3 all provide power using phase. It gets more complicated than that but that's the jist. Let me know how it goes. Can't ever rule out a bad motor or esc.
