Just shows how much of our heritage we have lost. Did we really need to lose all of those old buildings. So much change I was born here in 1959 and miss the old town.
I was born here in 1956 it was a wonderful vibrant place. Always remember going to see father Christmas at Adnitts, Woolies pick and mix, Adams bakers and that amazing smell of the bread. Catching the bus home at Derngate bus station. The town is dead now, I don't go there anymore,

Thanks for the memories. Me and my mum used to meet my Nan in town when I was little im 52 now ! Loved going in the Fish Market getting some cockles while they had a cuppa. Then over the road to look in the pet shop. Good times never forgotten
I remember that pet shop , I got some rabbits from there when I was a kid and some hamsters . Can't remember the name . I used to live in the mounts area , craven Street
Wonderful selection although I see some shots that have been 'harvested' from other web pages. Only spotted 5 of the 14 cinemas that the town boasted: Tivoli/Majestic/ABC Savoy/ Temperance Hall and the Picturedrome....of which I own the Copyright to as it was taken by my Mother!! Looked in vain for a shot of W. L. M. Lees the Tobacconist shop opposite the Savoy (where I leant my trade as a projectionist) which was Managed by my Father for most of his working life. It was next to what can be seen of a shot at the top of York Road {NORMA] which was formerly NORMANS...a gents and boy outfitters. My Step-Brother [Gordon Ashton] spent his entire working as a glazier in A.R. & W Cleavers., and my dear Mother served her time before marrying my Father, as a seamstress at Adnitts in the Drapery. I was born in the Town in 1935 and lived in St Michaels Mount. Visited the Town some years ago and vowed never to go back because I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Hard to believe it’s the same place
I was born in 1956 and have many fond memories of the town. Sadly like most town centres it is awful now.
The demolition of emporium, fish market, convent school some of ths most criminal vandalism in history
My mum went to that school. It was a beautiful building
There was a toy and joke shop in the arcade I loved as a kid

The poodle shop it was called if I remember right. Thursbys angling and gun shop used to be next door but one further up the drapery.

I like the photo of the ABC cinema from the early 1980s showing Superman (2?), Meaning of Life, Return of the Jedi
I enjoyed this very much. I really like Northampton and it was good to see the familiar sites as they used to be (as well as many not so familiar)
This needs narrating over to explain where some of these shots are taken from and what we are looking at. Some great photos there.
