- We took a trip to Northampton on a bank holiday Monday, we also stopped off at Althorp House, Princess Diana’s family home. The house is closed to visitors at the moment so we only had a view from a distance.

Used to always go in to that Nando’s on my lunch break from work, as used to work in town centre. Some lovely historical buildings in Northampton but the shopping centre hasn’t got many shops open like it had few years ago and has changed a lot, I think anyway
Sadly the town like so many is dying and lots of shops are now closed, but yes some lovely historical buildings. The Nando’s was great! 😊
Hi . I'm born in Northampton. My dad still lives in kingsthorpe. It's gone downhill . . Since I moved to USA. In 86 . I still go back every few years . I went to school in 78 to 83 . In kettering . I have family in nottingham and market bosworth. Rushton. I saw billy bragg in Corby in 1983 in a very small venue . I've been to quite of few his gigs . I've even got vote labour flyer with his autograph on it .

It used to be a much better town, it's gone down hill big time theese days.

Its like we live in 2 worlds.
The skies are full of planes. People getting drunk every weekend. Roads full of cars and Amazon, Apple, Samsung and Sony getting richer by the minute.

Northampton is all about the surrounding countryside. Which is like mini versions of Devonshire, Shropshire and Cotswolds.
The town has a very good underground arts and music scene and great independent cafes.
A really good uni and some great parks, rivers and lakes and villages.
Other than that... its a shit hole lol

The only shitty thing is the lack of shops in town 😒 although I'm hoping the regeneration will return it to its former glory

It was the sixth worst place in the UK for empty shopping units, with twice the number of empty shops as the National average.

Worked on the local newspaper in the late 1970s. Never liked the place. Dull, boring town. Escaped and went on to work in Hongkong.
We spent a few days in Hong Kong in 2019 during a visit to the Philippines.
