It sounds like the V12 from the Ferrari 641. In fact, someone else said that these are turbocharged engines like Formula 1 cars of today, but they just don't have the electronics that make all that whining noise.
GEARHEADCT & JoeP Sorry?!?!? You both must be idiots to think this is a video game. This is a REAL camera strapped to a REAL driver's helmet visor. No sim or game to be made can replicate the graphics, sounds & detail of this video. There isn't even an Indycar game that is recent enough to have the DW12 and the 1.6L V6 turbo engine
Dude Im not raying this is a video game, Im actually sticking up for Simon. I know whats going on. I go to long beach and the Indy 500 every year, Im a huge Indycar supporter. Its JoeP that is the idiot. And you don't know you're indycar engines very well. The Indycar displacement is a 2.2 liter V6. Formula 1 has the 1.6 liter engine. Go do some research and read my comments before you respond to them.
I've been a volunteer for this race for 10 years. My post is crowd control on Gasoline Alley, where the Indy cars go from the paddock to the track. It's fun to be a part of it and fun to see it from the drivers perspective! They all seem to like coming to St. Pete, and we are glad to have them! This is awesome!
I think Indycar is very, VERY close to F1. What makes Indycar tough is that they race on quite twisty and tight tracks (I'm not saying that all the tracks are twisty and tight) with that power It's very challenging.
Guys, some real Racing with Pagenaud... Here you can see why I like Indy Cars......They are not as good as the golden times of the 90's, but it's still good Racing. These things are sliding, good power, better sound/music than F1, racing on unforgiving and crazy tracks like these.... I for one, would love to get into One...! Thanks Robin Miller and RACER!
Great video. I would happily pay a SKY Sports subscription if I could watch all of the F1 races from driver selectable helmet cams. First would be "Crashtor"....
Mitcy Dupres Not free to air in the UK?? I thought it was.... Bernie used to insist on that... it is free to air in Holland! But not here in NZ... Like you, we have to pay Rupert....
Awesome. Rarely do viewers get to see how much drivers' hands move correcting as they go through the turn. It looks terrifying but I suppose it isn't so bad over time. Thank you!
Fantastic stuff! You really get a feel for what it's like in the car with the visor cam. It would be really cool to see this done during qualifying, but they have too much on the line when they're really driving on the ragged edge. Love IndyCar! Can't wait for the new season with Aerobics & more HP.
That turn before the tower looks like he is going to collide right into that black wall at full speed. Impressive, most impressive. Did he win the pole with this run?
This is a great video, and reminds me of this one from Senna in Monaco: Ayrton Senna onboard lap around Monaco 1990 Also I think it's a great example just how different and faster Formula 1 cars (even those from today) or Indy cars are compared to any other sports car.
I meant practice traffic. There's plenty of practice time at Indy to capture a few laps in a pack of cars that practice drafting tactics for the race. ;) I know it's not a live camera.
F1 vs Indycar supremacy aside, which cars do you think are more difficult to drive the 2014 indy cars or the 2014 f1 cars? This years f1 cars have more hp and more torque more of the time and the downforce is probably closer to that of the indycars than its ever been in the past few decades and they both weigh about the same. Also the f1 cars have 8 speeds to the indy's 6 making more torque available more of the time which, depending on the situation can make this more or less difficult (ie. if a driver selects a gear or two up to maintain traction throughout a corner but if they lose traction they will have more wheel spin to deal with). Lastly the f1 drivers seem to be having a very tough time getting a feel for the brake by wire systems as they now have less feel in the pedal. When I started typing this I thought I would come to the conclusion that maybe they indycars are more difficult to drive then the current f1 cars but point after point im finding it may be the other way around, anyway its just me speculating, what do you guys think? For the record Ive thoroughly enjoyed the racing in both series for the 2013 season of indy and the 2014 race at petersburg as well as the 3 races so far in f1 especially at Sepang.
It's an interesting comparison. Let me start off saying I LOVE F1 and actually enjoy the rule changes. Anyway, the poorer track surface quality (and far narrower width) of Indycar and with power assisted steering being banned in Indycar... really adds up to a difficult physical challenge. Wicked dangerous in wrecks, and why you see drivers let go of the wheel when shit starts going down. More 'pure' though in a racing sense, and also more difficult. Whenever an F1 guy comes over to drive indycar (Rubens Barrichello for example) they're always warned to work out their arms to cope. You can tell from the incar videos how much more work the indycar boys have to do with the wheel. F1 is a far more smooth and cerebral racing. Indycar is for enthusiasts of red meat, bitches, and beer.
Yes, the road courses that Indy race on are pretty tough and taxing on the drivers especially if that have a back to back race weekend. And the powersteering combined with a fairly long wheelbase (stood next to a scale model of one a few days ago and it seemed atleast as long as my moms minivan haha) should make for a pretty tough drive. And of course the direct fed snapback to those steering wheels in impact is brutal. As far as the sound I think the indycars sound better from the outside with that old school turbo-era esq soundtrack, they sound great. But I think the f1 cars sound better onboard with all the cool turbo and electronic motor noises, to me it just makes for a really intriguing sound track.
2014 F1 has a fixed ratio 8-speed gearbox. I don't know the regulations in Indycar, but if they can change the ratios for different tracks, than the F1 doesn't necessarily have "more torque available more of the time". The same gears can't work both in Monaco and Monza.
Petar Marjanovic Well, with modifiable gear ratios it makes it easier to put the power down in an effective way. Even still, Indycars, being only 6 speeds, with less torque and a more narrow torque band don't have the same access to torque the f1 cars do. With 8 speeds, it goes without saying, you have a lot more gears to choose from so much so that you don't really need to moderate the gear ratio's for a specific track. Depending on the conditions there may be 2 even as high as 3 gear difference that the drivers use at a given corner.
You ever been with someone for a long time, and you thought that you would always be happy with that person? You always thought she/he will always do and wear what pleases you, and sometimes would go out of their way to make you happy. But boy ob boy you're wrong. Eventually they start to change and start to take you for granted; they stop caring about WHAT YOU LIKE, or what get's your attention. One day you're walking down Memory Lane and you run into that girl/boy you once went out with and had a thing for but you're not sure why things didn't work out. But here you both are, you greet and talk to each other and go for a ride together, at that moment you realize 'DAMN' this is way better than what I had before. My point is, I thought I was happy with Formula 1 and would tolerate whatever BULLSHIT rules they keep throwing out, but after seeing this, I've realized that I love Indy Car and I don't want to settle. I am not happy with Formula 1. Indy Cars are fast, and they look and sound GREAT.
Could be something related to the fuel system, either the amount of fuel left in the tank or something related to fuel managing; as you can see the last second of the video in that same display it flashed the word "fuel" for a moment.
Probably it's because of the manifolds position, right now they have the exhaust manifold inside the V which is unusual and allows them to use a single turbo, while older cars and IndyCars use the typical twin turbo setup with the exhaust outside the V
EJ25RUN Kinda disagree... I love when they do that so you can see wich drivers are the best, that's why I like GP2 so much, but I watch F1 alot and I still like it =)
I love racing. It's all about the driver. Sure, I love new technology but that's what's dumbing down motorsport. The point of motorsport is SPORT; racers are athletes too. EJ25RUN Biohazard667
I'd love to have a chance to sit in such a car one day Just judging by the mirrors, the cam position might be a bit above eye level. In my opinion the mirrors would not be adjusted well if the cam were really at his eye level.
It would be awesome to see helmet cam in F1 I know the trailed it but then they stoped it because it looked really bad in low quality because for some reason they were using very low quality cameras you can see here Daniel Ricciardo - Onboard Australian Grand Prix [2012] F1 Helmet Cam
Just wondering... Why is he turning towards the wall at 1:32 instead of letting the car drift towards the wall during the long straight stretch? I'm new to racing, I did a Scandia F2000 racing school in September, and we were taught to drift into position for the next turn during a straight away. I understand he's a professional driver, I just want to understand what he's doing.
+Hancor5 There is no need to let the car drift with that much track space. In fact he is counter steering to avoid letting the car drift to maximize traction and acceleration out of the corner.
+HW2800 This racer didn't seem very professional for me, at the end you can see that the car got fucked or was in a bad shape to run. This guy wrecked the engine lol.
F1 = 1,6 ltr and 550-580 Hp... IndyCar =2,4 ltr and ethanol... and a little bit more power out of the engine (650 HP). and i think they don't have to save fuel and stuff like this...
Jon Schulz The F1 cars for 2014 have hybrid power plants which employ the use of electric motors for ~30 secs of extra power which roughly equates to 700hp total. So yes, he was kind of spot on. But you are right, Indy cars do not use such devices. Simple internet miscommunication.
i wish i could see this kind of video and quality but with ayrton senna in driving position and his mclaren in monaco ...(btw nothing wrong with this video but just saying....)
You can, if you enter the correct cheat code in F12010, but then you have to play two whole seasons in Portuguese and win both the WDC + WCC before you get the secret "option" to drive 3 laps of Monaco as Senna (but in Hamilton's MP4-25) - in the rain. It's epic.
I love both F1 and Indy cars... but god damn does the indy car sound so much better! The old F1 V8s were glorious, but the new V6s are so quiet! Thats the only complaint about the new regs in F1... make them sound this good and it would be incredible. I dont understand how the Indy cars sound so much better. They are both V6 turbo and the Indy engines rev lower.... displacement? I cant imagine exhaust would be it as its just a pipe directly off the turbo exhaust housing... ah well. Both awesome racing series
this puts F1 2014 to shame and makes it a laughing stock and thats coming from a 20 year f1 fan who has lost major intrest in f1 over the last few years.
Ahmed Khan Competition. IndyCar races in general are FAR better than most F1 races. Just watch the end of the Brazil race last season. Better than any race F1 has had in many, many years...F1 races are basically decided in the first turn of the first lap barring equipment failure.
True to a point. It's subjective tho. F1 car on a road course will far outcass an IndyCar IndyCar on an oval will far outclass an F1 car. That being said. In terms of watchability and enjoyment, IndyCar has the better thing going. There's just far too much parading and not enough racing in F1.
Iv been watching F1 for about 20 years as well. And I totaly agree!! This season I'm watching V8 Supercars and find it 10 times more exciting that what I'v seen of F1 this season. Might take a look at Indycar as well if I have the time. F1 is all about the mechanics and throwing out stupid penaltys this now. And engines that sound look road cars. It is so frustrating to see what it has become... There are good things like lower DF. But the bad stuff outweighs the good ones by a massive margine! Sad to see.. But at least this has made discover other great racing series! :D
sounds like an old F1 engine...awesome video lots of respect for these guys
It sounds like the V12 from the Ferrari 641. In fact, someone else said that these are turbocharged engines like Formula 1 cars of today, but they just don't have the electronics that make all that whining noise.
jonny j like also at mclaren 1988 sound honestly
Exactly what I was thinking dude. Sounds fucking amazing, really similar to the old 80's turbo f1 cars :D
Now this is a true view of what a driver sees while racing & driving a race car. Best video that I have ever seen of a motorsport POV video
Uhhhh, it's just a video game! The in-car view option in F12010 was already this good, especially if you chose Schumacher...
JoeP WTF is this its a video game crap?!
GEARHEADCT & JoeP Sorry?!?!? You both must be idiots to think this is a video game. This is a REAL camera strapped to a REAL driver's helmet visor. This perspective is so much faster and more physical than what you see on television. The difference is startling.
1080p + Fullscreen, do it guys!
And turn the volume up!
as if it's such a big deal... is that the manliest thing you've done?
These cars have come a long way. And no matter what anyone tells you. They are Legit Bad Ass. And this is coming from a life long F1 fan
Thank you for not having motion blurr correction. It adds so much more to the intensity!
This is a certifiable eargasm and eyegasm!
That's a high commitment section after turn 10 past the ferris wheel! Good stuff!
I honestly find these cars move more like a V8 Supercar than a regular openwheel, and it's awesome!
Amazing footage! Hope this can be done for all the races this season
Such brutal accelerations
This is SO BEAUTIFUL
I have to say, the new Honda engine sounds pretty damn good!
Awesome. Rarely do viewers get to see how much drivers' hands move correcting as they go through the turn. It looks terrifying but I suppose it isn't so bad over time.

With Aero kits . Damn auto spell
So much better than F1 nowadays
That turn before the tower looks like he is going to collide right into that black wall at full speed. Impressive, most impressive. Did he win the pole with this run?
Great video! I like different POV, but it is also great!
What a fantastic track!
You are kidding right?
Sounds very good!!
Those slides...I love it!

Is this going to be a regular feature at all Indycar races? I'd LOVE to see one in traffic at Indy or Pocono.
No, this isn't "live" camera.
I meant practice traffic. There's plenty of practice time at Indy to capture a few laps in a pack of cars that practice drafting tactics for the race. ;) I know it's not a live camera.
So bumpy, it's amazing he can see where he's going.
this is so RAW...
tingly spine and a poppin pulse after watching that!
Open cockpits were a beautiful thing.
Coolest video thanks again MP!
AWESOME!
cam camera is the best.
wow great footage!

cooler than cool. love Indycars more than F1
IndyCar, USCC and WEC will be the future of motor sport!
Sorry about my english.
Can't wait for the Indy 500
This car and this driver its FAST !!!
I'd like to know whether driving near the wall at speed could affect (negatively) the aerodynamics of the car.
That would be awesome on Imax!!
If F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport why can't they make the cars sound at least this good
Bc it they only care about proformance not sound
Used to love living in the burg, be down on 4th Street and you could just hear these things screaming.
Pure awesome
I wish they would say what kind of camera this is...I'd buy one in a heartbeat
I wish we could have cameras of GoPro quality for Live TV... imagine watching an entire race through a particular driver's eyes!
(1:33) I could only imagine what it would be like turning the wheel towards the wall coming out of a corner that fast.
the sound of speed.
amazing!
I wish an F1 driver would do this around Monaco. It's so cool!

To what does the MPH counter change to and from during his exiting of the pits? RPMs?

Feel of speed
How anyone can actually click dislike to this is beyond me.
Currently IndyCar > F1. Ecclestone and business suits have ruined F1.
Not with the DW12. If modern Indy had those 90's Reynard and Penske cars than yes.
Still less technical regulations then F1. At least in Indy, all the cars are matched evenly. EJ25RUN Nice handle BTW. I recently got a job at Subie.
I can't stand racing that matches the cars. The point of motorsport is technical innovation that then is measured by the best cars.
EJ25RUN Kinda disagree... I love when they do that so you can see wich drivers are the best, that's why I like GP2 so much, but I watch F1 alot and I still like it =)

I opened my eyes so wide that ET looked like a family member of mine. O_O

Yeah, that was the old good F1, welcome to the vacuum cleaner era...
***** yeah, if you put the power the elektic engine and the main engine together they have over 700 hp. But only for 30 seconds.

It's epic.
that's on the Xbox360, btw.
idk if there was same bonus play via playstation...
JoeP can you post the "cheat" code-meow, pleaze? purr purr!!

Is this NES or XBOX?
THIS IS REAL LIFE
Eh, I think NES has better resolution than this........
aww dude i said that a week ago...lol.
This is PC with Oculus Rift ;)
this is real life its impossible to make a game like this!!!!!
Assetto Corsa? ;-)
In-sanee-lly-awee-someee.
Holy shit. u gatta have Major BaLLS to do this stuff
Its a pity the camera cannot compensate for the vibrations in the same way our eyes can....
And they say Indy car doesn’t qualify for SL points
Just ridiculous isn't is? Can't believe the FIA said that with a straight face.
How does one get into a sport like this?
+Matt Green Usually they start racing in kart when they are under 10 yo
+Exploit “Potato” Unknown have 5 million in the bank

that last 3 corners before the last corner, if you get it wrong it's going to be bad
1:50 that was close :)
and I came...
this puts F1 2014 to shame and makes it a laughing stock and thats coming from a 20 year f1 fan who has lost major intrest in f1 over the last few years.
really? In what way? Yes the sound isn't as good anymore in F1 but what else? There's absolutely nothing that Indycar has over F1.

Competition.
IndyCar races in general are FAR better than most F1 races. Just watch the end of the Brazil race last season. Better than any race F1 has had in many, many years...F1 races are basically decided in the first turn of the first lap barring equipment failure.
Ahmed Khan Faster cars and real racing.
True to a point. It's subjective tho.
F1 car on a road course will far outcass an IndyCar
IndyCar on an oval will far outclass an F1 car.
i am going to long beach for the indy cars race
Go #77 !
