in Savat, this is the Outside Kick. there is also an Outside Knee. these are mostly surprise, gimmick techniques. Not good for Fundamentals. but if you re-match someone, you can catch them off-guard with these..
i especially love this because i can replace a regular roundhouse with it when my hips are feeling tired/sore. the sneakiness is the cherry on top, moreso against experienced opponents who know how to deal with roundhouses
I actually recall Alex Pereira throwing the spinning crescent kick, I think he even did it against Adesanya in UFC, and I wondered why he throws it that way, now the move makes a lot more sense to me. Great stuff, looking forward to your fight against Buckley sir!
He is not very good for spinning kicks and it's great alternative, also he light be tall and good reach but his style is more short distance fighting (witch make him entertaining and not usual long defensive fighters . ) It's you natural prédisposition and flexibility that often dictate early the technique you like . Andy hug was the best when it comes to diversity of kicks. He used many of these type of kicks and set up straight left hand , axe kicked the guard etc...during golden age heavyweight kickboxing.
I remember Vids from Sensei Seth some years ago breaking this down from Karate Kid and Cobra Kai. It's a Classic Technique. What I really like about this Technique is that it's a really good Inside to Mid-Range kick. Normally with kicks, they're either Inside, Mid-Range, or Long Range. This one bridges the gap in range as an intermediate weapon that's offensive and defensive. It's clearly a more Advanced Technique that requires set up and increased Knowledge. It can be very simplistic but also beautiful.
Its mad you just done this video . I did a spinning crescent by accident trying to do a spinning hook kick practicing at my kickboxing gym ace video ❤🥋
Love crescent kicks,,,,teaches using the full leg from hip,,,very valuable for additional kicking technique requiring full leg extension,,,hip extension is more powerful
Inspirational. And it is such a knockout technique or series of techniques that work inside and outside the ring. I particularly like that the fact that it is disguised as opponents almost always think that you are doing a front kick, and they defend that accordingly, and get caught out
Brilliant! Could you do a technique Tuesday on how you train knees? Techniques on high and jumping knee and on how you best execute the switch knee? What’s your favorite and why? Could you link a video of you in action using it? Kind regards
you can even do lead leg crescent kick too, just like a normal lead leg mae geri hitting with the ball of the foot, but adding twist to it make it even more powerful
You can get good power from this if done right. Just like how Leon KO'ed Kamaru (only from the other side), you can use a cross as a fake, leaving the hand in their face while allowing the back-foot crescent to travel around, up their side and hitting their temple.
Im a black belt in Tang Soo Do Karate and I love crescent kicks. They are great for breaking gaurd, and they are powerful. My favorite is the jump spin crescent kick like Van Damme.
I actually prefer the bounce back you get off of the Crescent. Just for the sole purpose of setting up the backhand or windmill. Works very well in Muay Thai and kickboxing because often times it will bounce off the glove.
Hi wonderboy Big thanks for the video, with the crescent kick I can hit the head, roundhouse, side kick only the body, more practice with the crescent kick from now on. ❤
Spinning back crescent kick is awesome. Easy to make it look like backfist, tons of power, and it can be done at such close range (the spin also works great to deflect round kicks). It does take a lot of effort to really master the balance on the spin though. I had to learn it, and later teach it. Neither was accomplished without a ton of repetition!
Awesome review on the Uchi Mikasuki-Geri and the Ude Mikasuki-Geri which I am currently learning in my Shotokan training. It feels like a weak kick but the legs being twice as strong as your arms, it’s definitely effective. I will have to work on getting it Jodan level. Cheers!
Famous scene from Billy Jack. He tells the guy exactly what he’s gonna do, the guy smirks and Billy Jack says “and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.” The smokes him with a crescent kick. At least that’s how I recall it. Happy Tuesday everyone!
I had a lot of success using the inside crescent to pull their hands down and follow up with punches . You have to plant the kicking leg forward though
Stephen, how dare you make it through this entire video on the crescent kick without mentioning the park fight scene in Billy Jack! What blasphemy! 🤣 I learned the crescent kick originally form my Hapkido instructor Interior Taloulou way back in my Army days. His instructor was Master Bong Soo Han who was the stunt double for Tom McLaughlin in Billy Jack and also co-starred in the film's sequel. Great video of a great kick. Most students are surprised at how much more power is generated by the spinning crescent as opposed to the spinning hook, especially those who have less flexibility.
Interesting that people are becoming more aware of this kick now. Study Kyokushin fighters for this one. One thing to point out maybe: don't view it as a "crescent" kick, but as a percussive, snapping kick. Crescent kicks are usually circular, swinging motions. This is the total opposite, it's a quick, hard snap, which is where it gets its flash KO power from when it lands on the chin. In Kyokushin we call it "uchi mawashi geri", which means an "inside" or "inverted" roundouse kick. It's just semantics, but words tend to shape how we think about things. Like the seemingly meaningless, but actually important difference between a "turning" vs. "spinning" technique or a turning BACK kick as opposed to a turning SIDE kick.
I took 6 TKD classes, when we learned a jump turning crescent kick the instructor said i looked like s blue belt. One of the first things i taught myself when i was like 7/8
I learned the crescent kick is excellent for disarming. Haven't used it against someone trying to murder me yet, but it works in practice, with some tough peeps who really don't want to let it go lol Also, I will sometimes follow it up by spinning into a roundhouse or a tornado kick. You can spin, but only if it's part of the game plan
I’m sorry but the crescent kick cannot exert nearly enough force to hit someone’s weapon out. If you’re dealing with an armed assailant, the best option is to run or comply
@@dimavlasiuk4220 I don't think you have ever seen somebody use the crescent kick effectively. If you train it enough to use it quickly and there is a snap, that is plenty strong enough to work
@@justinAclark2075 I guess, but I’d personally still not rely on it. Your legs have a lot of arteries, one slash and you’ll be on the floor bleeding out to your death. But if it works for you, then, sure go ahead.
@@dimavlasiuk4220 you're right there is definitely a risk. It's not something you can simply choose to use and have it work. I find that in cases of self defense, there is much more to it than the mechanics involved. One thing that is often overlooked in discussions about self defense is that you probably wouldn't have to defend yourself if your opponent thought you could defend yourself before picking you as a target. Everybody assumes I can't defend myself, and that's why I have had to defend myself. You never see the bullies needing to learn self defense. And paying close attention and finding creative ways to build an advantage is something the victims are usually better at than anyone else. Psychology and social contracts is the first level of self defense. If your strategy is just to get better at fighting and then win, you don't need self defense, you need to enter competitive fighting sports.
@@dimavlasiuk4220 I realized I left out the ultimate point in my long winded response. The answer, at least for me, is the element of surprise. Among other things
Hiya Stephen, I’ve been studying a little shotokan, always been a big combat junkie (airsofting, light sparring, etc.) I’m pretty new but I’m very inspired by your talent, I’m only red belt but I’m hoping one day to do some mma work, if you have advice on any common mistakes it’d be great to know before I go into a tournament hopefully September time, (kumite and kata) great work, if I ever get the chance in the distant future I’ll have to try stop by and do a class or two, but I gotta know if you could have any power what would it be? Flight? The power to hit a yak from idk, ~200m away… WITH MIND BULLETS?
Yeah, when I was a kid, I would do the whole lightly toss a tennis ball and do the spin heel kick 6 to 8 inches from where my face was. you can get to where you Babe Ruth the ball whatever place you wish generally to the right.🍀
Aren't you putting a lot of sideways pressure on your knee by doing this kick? Because your hip is trying to drive your foot through the target, while the target is resisting that force, and your knee is in the middle of those two opposing forces... how do you avoid breaking your knee in half when you throw this with power!?
I spar with my Brother tomorrow and he catch me with that Kick I still doesn’t believe my defense are soo good the kick seems weak but you can't defend against them.
It's a great hide and this skill sets up to other techniques. This Kick are a Beautiful Trap but is the most difficult kick of Master only a Crazy person would try Master a Skill like that.
Friday is the best time for technique tuesday!
My thoughts exactly 😅
I plan on watching this last Wednesday.
It's Fuchnique Friday!
Yeah, he’s 3 hours ahead of me, not 3 days behind 😂
I'm watching this on Saturday. Am I doing it wrong?
So good! 🔥
Truly.
in Savat, this is the Outside Kick. there is also an Outside Knee. these are mostly surprise, gimmick techniques. Not good for Fundamentals. but if you re-match someone, you can catch them off-guard with these..
Shinkiokushin and Kiokushin are good paths to learn head kicks ❤
My son trains Muay Thai but did 10 years Kyokushin with me. I encourage him to use these karate kicks in MT and he catches fighters out every time…
Watching WB break these kicks down and how to set them up makes me realize why he is the best striker in the UFC.
I throw this kick a lot when sparring, it's such an effective technique, especially against muay thai practicioners.
I got hit twice in the same Muay Thai class sparring session with it, I felt like an idiot, good to know
Love this!!! 🔥🔥
i especially love this because i can replace a regular roundhouse with it when my hips are feeling tired/sore. the sneakiness is the cherry on top, moreso against experienced opponents who know how to deal with roundhouses
After 20 years of martial arts, I was today years old when I discovered that a crescent kick's purpose is to guard break. Very cool, thanks Wonderboy!

Crescent kick allowed me to Master heel kicks by rotating heel outward,,, faster and lends itself to Hook kick fast,,,thank U for the topic
Been accused of roller bearing hip joints but heel strikes are huge power
He made it look so easy. Now everything on my right side is torn. Lol
im practicing that kick every day and using it in point karate 🖤
Awesome! I really loved the parry down the opponent's hands as you tsugi ashi and go into the crescent kick.

What a technique! I'm going to practice this on my next training session.
I spent ages not being able to spin wheel kick because I was starting with a crescent kick.
I am a judoka but always loved this kick and feel is a better option than other circular ones that require more agility. Thanks for sharing.

that low to crescent one, couldn't see it. very nice

I can't do any of this stuff, but I love the videos

That's my purse! I don't know you!
Alrighty Bobby, hand over your game guy thingy, and go help your mother with the dishes, or so help me, I'll tell ya whhhhhhat

Excellent!
Hi please can you make a video how to strengthening (lcl , acl & mcl )
I learned the crescent kick, but never imagined using it outside of point fighting.
Fun fact Alex Pereira prefers to throw spinning crescent kick over spinning hook kick
7:12 The sheer insolence of Sweet T! glad to see WB shut that down real fast.
Homie I showed this kick to my son two days ago!
If you really wanna see a good solid cresant kick . . . Watch Billy Jack! He does it from a relaxed in-close position! THAT is how to execute it!

Reverse Cresent kick/ inside outside crescent kick ossopsed to a crescent kick OSS
I love it
That intro was like some Chuck Norris Texas Ranger shit. lol.
I give you mad credit. I could never do what you do. Getting decked stinks. Your martial arts work is sick.
4. The jumping crescent

I like to throw a couple big dramatic outside crescents, then slip a reverse front snap kick. Sneaky AF
Let’s goooooo!
Can't wait for you to take Joaquin buckley to school on oct 6😂
