I had to tell you I literally heard Jorge Masvidal on the Joe Rogan podcast and he said “Stephen Wonderboy is a dog !!!!” and you’re cool dude and a good guy and a great American how bout that 🇺🇸 👍🏼💪🏼🙏🏼
That's why he makes these awesome videos it's like you're training with him. but I know what, I'd like to meet the guy he seems like a great spirited dude
I work 7 minutes away from upstate karate i knew it was in simpsonville but didnt know it was practically right beside me. Gettin my cardio right then im taking them up on the free 2 lessons, i dont even care if wonderboy is there or not cause the whole staff is his family that trained him into what hes became today. They are truly the last of a dying breed, those walker texas ranger types that keep the youth out of trouble and show them better things to occupy their time with whilst also showing them how to defend themselves from those who choose the other path
When I studied taekwondo, we called these slow-motion drills. They were extremely grueling, but we developed incredible precision in our kicking techniques!
Wonderboy is lowkey my Karate sensei, because everything I've been learning when it comes to martial arts--like 95% of it comes from his videos and fights. Thanks, Sensei!
Love the advanced karate technique and drills. It would we awesome to see a video on avoiding the lead leg kicks with karate. A lot of karate practitioners can struggle with avoiding or countering that thai style leg kick.
Brilliant video WB. Back in the 80s and 90s when I trained traditional shotokan we did all of our kicks slow, but not enough training on speed and power. Couple of times I had to use karate in an actual fight the muscle memory associated with slow kicking would 'kick in'. I later joined a club more focused on competition where everything was speed and power, and the combination of the different ways of training really helped my technique overall.
People tend to forget about all of the stabilizing and support muscles. These drills are going to help that immensely as well as tendons and ligaments getting attention. You can do side bends and sit ups but gross motor training is how you kick butt
Drills like these are ultimately a drill based version of Tai Chi. The slow movements are meant to build strength and speed through the stabilizer muscles. They've also shown that these movements increase bone density due to the increased load/constant tension.
Love seeing excercises like this! slow mo kicks, three way kicks, and kick/chamber/kick. my old kenpo instructor would be blown away that people still do this.
Thanks Wonderboy, been struggling with my round kicks for a while as I feel it tighten in my adductors when I hit a certain height and it kinda turns into a leg kick. Will try some of the mobility in here.
I have been doing this as the only thing atm because im trying to develop my strength and felxibility and dexterity atm, and this video kinda helps validate that im not doing anything aimlessly, thank you lol
Yes Sir! Off to get a bosu ball 😂 Question: Do you think not moving the foot position of the lead leg (when throwing a rear leg front kick) until the knee chamber has already come up so you get some extra hip rotation (from the foot rotating from half facing to full facing) as you square up and extend the leg is good for reducing telegraph? I noticed in a Gabriel Varga fighter breakdown on Conor that he used to do this and have also heard MJW talk about it as well. I think a breakdown of MVP's striking is due next WB! Never stop dropping the knowledge!
Hi Wonderboy,I love your tutorials very much.I want you to upload basic kick tutorials like heel kick, head kick etc. along with mentioning common mistakes
I did this on the BOSU last week at planet fitness and got stare. We used to do similar drills at my American Kenpo school. Thanks for sharing and adding some new ideas into my arsenal WB💯🔥
Hey Stephen my name is John this video has really helped my son improve his balance he recently started his karate journey and had some trouble with balance he's tall for being 9 and is kinda clumsy but since he started watching your videos he's really improved your videos are awesome thank you for this awesome content and helpful tips. Keep it up!
Good stuff bro! As far as the drills where you go slow it reminds me of learning music. Music teachers always told me if you can’t play it slow you can’t play it at all.
awesome tips as always! And awesome camera angles, showing the legs in frame! quitch tech question though, are you recording on a phone? The video is 4k, but the image quality is just potato. I know using a real mirrorless camera like a Sony A7C with a hefty wide-aperture lens like a Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD is much more complicated, but the result is a piece of art that is so satisfying to look at 📷
@Stephen, would you also recommend putting deuser/resistance bands between your feet and then doing kicks with it in order to build up speed and strength?
Another good thing to do is doing kicking drills and shadow boxing on grass or uneven surfaces. Like that, every time you kick your standing leg, you will be positioned slightly differently
I would like to hear from the karate & taekwondo community. I train Muay Thai, regarding kicks, what's the purpose or effectiveness of kicking like that? With a snapping motion instead of going through...Stephen make a video about this, please!
I trained in Taekwondo over 20 years ago. My grandmaster was a Korean soldier veteran and trained us to utilize elbows, knees, throws, and locks. We were taught multiple ways to throw kicks. For example the round kick with a snap that you speak of more so for speed, accuracy, and balance. Round kick attack from a 45 degree angle. Then a round kick with complete follow through which is not quite but similar to Muay Thai. Nowadays Taekwondo look like all sport only....
Another very good drill for kicking like the double and triple kick practice is the same thing but let your foot hit the ground between each kick. Kind of looks like how the muay thai guys do kicking on pads. So good for explosive speed. So your foot literally bounces from the bag back to the ground and back to the bag. Try do 3 sets of 10 of them and you will be exhausted within 20 seconds.
Karate side kick much different then tkd this would be considered incorrect as it was traditionally taught by chambering the leg up (like front kick) twisting the body from the shoulders, hip and knee together this creates a lot of power but not as quick.
Hey Stephen, I'm a big fan. I've been doing Karate for over 30 years now love what you are doing in bringing it back into the mainstream. I'm looking forward to the day that I can get across the pond to come train with you in your dojo. But until then.....Where can I buy one of those T-shirts, man?
bro wonderboy I was kinda sparring my brother messing around and I kicked him in the thigh and he went down like a sack of potatoes it was funny also love the vids!!!!!

Is AG1 legit?
I wish I could train with Wonderboy. He's one of the fighters who got me into combat sports. The ones who get the chance are incredibly fortunate.

@Mr. E um what does this has to do with politics
That's why he makes these awesome videos it's like you're training with him. but I know what, I'd like to meet the guy he seems like a great spirited dude
Me too Bro! I used to live in the same area 22 yrs ago. Maybe I'll retire there and train at Upstate😄

Doing these drills while watching feels like I'm in your gym. Thanks for helping us imrove our fighting for years, these videos really help
@Mr. E you’ve got my vote
what's "imrove" is that a technique that I don't know about that I should know?

Slow is the prerequisite. When you master slow then then you start kicking fast
People tend to forget about all of the stabilizing and support muscles. These drills are going to help that immensely as well as tendons and ligaments getting attention. You can do side bends and sit ups but gross motor training is how you kick butt
Most peope don't have the hip flexor strength to even do these drills.
Hes actually super nice and a really happy person enjoyed meeting u mr Thompson
I've been doing basically all of these. Good to get confirmation from the pro.
Drills like these are ultimately a drill based version of Tai Chi. The slow movements are meant to build strength and speed through the stabilizer muscles. They've also shown that these movements increase bone density due to the increased load/constant tension.
I wish my kicks, especially side kicks, had your enthusiasm..... excellent drills dude! Thanks for sharing some skills and drills to level up!
Love seeing excercises like this! slow mo kicks, three way kicks, and kick/chamber/kick. my old kenpo instructor would be blown away that people still do this.
Wonderboy you are my hero fr. Thanks for all your contribution to the sport and for the ones who practice a karate style. Oss!🥋
It's amazing how you breakdown in little chunks and explain how to pass from a newbe to an advance movement, the best!. Thanks.
Thanks Wonderboy, been struggling with my round kicks for a while as I feel it tighten in my adductors when I hit a certain height and it kinda turns into a leg kick. Will try some of the mobility in here.
Thanks for this drill! I recently found my high roundhouse kick just last week and wanted to know what was next for my hip conditioning.
I have been doing this as the only thing atm because im trying to develop my strength and felxibility and dexterity atm, and this video kinda helps validate that im not doing anything aimlessly, thank you lol

Speed kicks are like jabs but speed + momentum = Power. Hit someone coming in w a speed kick is a knockout
