- I had temporarily installed a straight pipe all the way out the back! Wasn't satisfied so I went for a little more aggressive sound!
Turn your volume all the way up for this one! It's amazing!!
Let me know what you think in the comments!
Thank you guys!

Im putting this motor in a 31 Ford Pickup. Was thinking about Cherry Bombs. You just made up my mind. I got goose bumps. That is a perfect muffler for the Y block.
You'll love it! It's got such a unique tone to it!
im doing smithys with mine
WOW! Small world.
We have the exact same truck as you. Same year, engine and bed.
We have run the same EXACT short, side dump exhaust with chrome tips.
Our engine has the "Ramhorn" manifolds that were stock in the heavy trucks fitted with "Y" blocks.
We bought our truck right after we were married, 41 years ago.
Still enjoy it!
That's an awesome story! I don't know if I'll ever be able to give mine up! It's such a perfect truck.
I love it!
I used Thrush glass packs on my 292 powered 59 Ford. They sounded great but rusted out within a year.
Yeah I've used those in the past. Same issue. I had some on my 67 f100 and they didn't last long
Y blocks have always sounded amazing in my opinion. Especially when there’s an exhaust deletion or straight pipe. First time I’ve heard one with a header tho. Gotta say… I’m not disappointed at all
Sounds too nice, you need a set of Rams Horns or Patriot headers for that Y Block! Keep up the good work
I actually do have a set of Patriot Headers on it! Sounds great!
That truck is badass bro 👌
Thank you! I'm starting to really make some progress on it!!
very nice sound , I loved the 312 my Dad had in his 56 Mercury Monarch with what were call Hollywood mufflers at that time.
Those are pretty sweet rides! I still think it's my favorite sounding engine! Nothing too loud, but it has such a nice idle to it!
Nice! I have a 54’ with the 292 y block it’s cammed and has ram horn headers with dual straight pipes and they come out to rectangle corvette tips right under the rear fenders. Sounds amazing. Crackles and pops and the police even give a two thumbs up lol. I’m right here in Charleston Illinois. Do you have any suggestions for a 4 barrel carb? I’m gonna get a 4 venturi intake manifold since it’s a two barrel atm.
That sounds like it would a pretty amazing tone! I would look into a Holley 600, but definitely run a space. Maybe even a 1 inch spacer.
like the sound good glass packs on y block ford
I had glass packs in my 59 short bed when I was 18 and it got me pulled over=ticket !
Tickets are totally worth hearing the sound though lol
@JACOB CROW keep working at it man! I was about the same age when I heard my first engine build start!
I’m 17 now, bought a ‘58 F250 about a year and a half ago. It’s got a 292 with a glass pack… thinking about what else I could do
I actually liked the Before, but I'm also very basic.
Sounds good!
Thank you!
like the sound
Thank you! The truck will actually be ready to drive very soon! Super excited!
I have a 1959 292 y block, thinking about cherry bombs or super 10s with dual pipes straight out the back. I love your pickup, sounds so good
Thank you! I'm doing some changes this week! Slowly but surely, going to paint it all! It may not look perfect, but she sure is pretty!
Need to run the water hose up in em.
Hellz to tha ya! Your truck is looking sweet, good score brother. I, too, love the yblock sound. Ornery, growly and way cooler than jesus onna motorbike. My '56 bigwindow has a 292 w ram horns. The exhaust ends at the glasspaks just aft of the cab. Sublime to the ears.
Good to see others still discovering the yblock platform. Keep it maintained and it won't let you down
I think it sounds ok my 1959 Ford f600 has the same engine and mine is straight piped
Thanks man! That's the setup I had last, but really like this side dump sound. Sounds a bit more aggressive, but still haven't driven it since the change, so I'll let you know how that goes!
Building a 57 c700 with 312, sound similar.. good vid
Does it have the cross pipe on the front top?
nice work brotha, trying to figure out a setup for my 62 mercury meteor
These cherry bombs are amazing on a y block! Beautiful tone! The video definitely doesn't do it justice!
Perfect for a hot rod 👌👌
I agree! I love this setup! Sounds so sweet!
@@JakeHarrington You have convinced me, my next hot rod is not going to have a flathead. Y-block ftw! 👌😃
@@slowshop I love it! I had never heard of the y block until I found this truck for sale! Now I'm all about it!
The job you did was perfect....... but in my opinon you would have had a beefier deeper tone if you would have turned that pipe end more down word toward the ground....just my thoughts all and all great job man.
I got my 63 running it is dumped under the cab it's super loud
It sounds glorious though! What engine do you have?
@@JakeHarrington 292 y block the muffler fell of goin to Town it's extremely loud right now
Every Y block needs the dork pipe in front of the engine.
Why?
@@diego13325 Ford probably saved a lot of money that way. Those three martini lunches don't buy themselves, you know.
u should try straight pipes they sound really good
I had straight pipes on before! They do sound really good! I will probably go back, when I get bored with this setup!
@@JakeHarrington yeah they don't sound tacky like most engines like if u straight pipe a 4cyl petrol they sound shit
Do you any social media? I've got questions of you're willing to entertain. I'm rebuilding a 59 Ford F100 with the 292.
Yes! I'd be happy to help! I'm on Instagram @ jake.harrington.9
Does it sound like a motorcycle
Sounds like freedom if you ask me!
Jesus! Service your rear differential. I would have done that before exhaust.
It wasn't going anywhere lol. The engine had foreign objects in it and required a complete overhaul! The diff will definitely be serviced before she hits the road for good
Sounds good, but basic.
The simplest setups are the best!
