So true, she never yells, screams just pure rich singing. She is a class act on stage. Saw her once in concert. She was feeling sick. She shouldn't have been performing that night. But she did. After the whole set was done she then told us her audience that she had a bad cold and if her voice sounded different to us she felt bad about that, almost an apology. Yet I never knew she was I'll until she said it. A great great voice and a class act.
The longest funeral in history, but the Queen was escorted to glory in royal fashion. Gladys did an amazing job. The one things the legends of Aretha's time is that they can tell a story with their voice. I miss Aretha today more than when she died.
The way she delivered that is exactly why she can still sing. These days every singer sings at the very top of their range and wreck their vocal chords or they're smoking and coating them. No judgement but smoking anything and being a vocalist don't mix well. She's always been my favorite female vocalist.
I'm a vocalist and part of it is genetics but most of it is taking care of your instrument. I promise you she's been educated about her voice and she's followed the advice. It's apparent. Vocal chords don't age like that without extreme care.
Bruce Solomon Being from a small town I didn't get to see any entertainers growing up it wasn't until I joined the Marines that I was in Las Vegas for a testing mission on our last Friday there I was privileged to see her at the Flamingo where she performed there nightly. She's the only singer I've ever seen live. And she as you would expect was awesome!!!
She is and she is an awsome person as well. I was so fortunate to have grown up on Long Island in New York. I saw many concerts and my sister and I often took the train in to NYC (a half hour's ride) to see Broadway shows. We would wait on line at the ticket booth in Times Square for shows that hadn't sold out for the day and buy tickets for $8.00 to $12.00 per ticket. It was such a gift. I now live in Ft Lauderdale Florida and though we have a good sized theater community we aren't lucky enough to have such discounts. Tickets are as costly as full Broadway prices so I only see a few shows per year where my sister and I would see a few per month. There was no place that afforded as many life experiences as New York and the food in New York was amazing.

In 1970, a songwriter called his friend, Lee Majors ("The six million dollar Man") and Farah Fawcett answered the phone (before she was "Farah Fawcett-Majors") Farah told the Songwriter, whose name escapes my memory, that Lee was out, and she was packing to catch a Midnight Plane to Texas. The Songwriter thought "Midnight Plane to Texas", would make a good Song Title, so he sat down with his guitar and about 30 minutes later he had composed the words to that song. However, in 1972, when Gladys Knight was give the song "A Midnight Plane to Texas", she thought in her family, they took TRAINS, not planes, and she would not go home to TEXAS, since she was from GEORGIA! And that is the story of how "A Midnight PLANE to Texas" became "A Midnight TRAIN to Georgia"! She sang "She'd rather live in HIS world, than live without him, in MINE"! Gladys said there was some tension in her marriage as her husband did not like her traveling so much to sing all over the country, and she admits some of that tension could be heard in the song. No one likes "tenson", but it made the song more powerful.
