These videos are great, and this is one that gives lots of details. However, I did see one detail that was missed. On the original drone, there are three angled fins that run across the top of the vessel. These fins serve a specific purpose. They are needed because of the high speed of the vessel and the large payload located forward of the center. If rough seas are encountered, they prevent the vessel from being forced under the water and becoming a submarine. If the vessel encounters a large wave, the water pushes against the angled fins. This force causes the bow of the vessel to rise out of the water rapidly.

Definitely would make things miserable for China. China must of been feeling smug about their artificial bases constructed in the South China Sea. However with the advent of sea drones, now with anti air missiles, must be giving China heartburn.
PS - if China actually forces Philippines and other countries to concede the SCS, it will be an empty victory. Imagine China install a billion dollar natural gas project and having some students taking a potshot or two. Any hit could potentially put any investment out of commission.

not really, It's not Russia fighting a smaller country, it's Russia fighting Ukraine and 19 other countries.
The entire logistics and supply, all the missile systems, all the intelligence satellite and drone surveillance are not just supplied but manned by primarily US, British and French forces directly. none of these drone ships wold be very useful without US drone surveillance.
Every Patriot missile battery os operated by US servicemen in plain clothes that have been temporarily decommissioned and are technically 'private contractors'. The strike on the Moskva was done entirely by these private contractors and the US 'advisors'. We literally do everything and then get a Ukrainian to push the actual button so they can testify in court if need be that the attack was "launched by Ukrainian forces".
These systems are not systems that you can be trained to use in a few months, they take years to learn, but more importantly they don't work in a vacuum, they need our vast logistical systems to be effective or even work.
As it stands, Russia currently occupies the vast majority of the territory it wanted to in the first place and there's very little anyone can do to kick them out. Sanctions only strengthened them and gave them new allies. Russia's industrial base is at a record high, their economy is almost in a better place that ours, they have alliances with more of the world now than we do.
Ukrainians have fought bravely but they fought for a leader who has been grifting off this war from the start, the sad reality is that they are dying to US politicians and arms contractors can make Billions, and that cynical lot cares not one bit about any number of deaths in Ukraine as long as the war grift cash spigot keeps flowing.

They're the ones who sent Ukraine that big first sea drone as part of a defense package, and they wanted to see how it would do or what the Ukrainians could come up with using that as a template. And now they're getting a lot of valuable Intel, as the US and Ukrainians are absolutely sharing intelligence on the daily! What about all those US troops (that we found out were fighting in Ukraine), have they all come home? Or are they all 6' under?
And what about all those Ukrainian fully fit, hard, strong, (fighting men), aged between 12 -15 years old, or those 65 - 75-year-old pensioners... (we all watched being rounded up, and kidnapped off the streets), to be thrown into the front lines? Where are they all?
What? You mean, an 800,000 x2 strong Ukrainian Army, with many NATO trained troops divisions Vs them useless Russians, reduced to fighting with shovels, are all gone? LOL.
It isn't even a Russian invasion of Ukraine! It's only a military operation being carried out to demilitarize and denazify the Ukrainian military.
      Ukrainian military losses:
      1079 Aircraft.
      735 Helicopters.
      8,273 UAVs.
      1148 Air defence missile systems.
      12,274 Tanks and Armoured vehicles.
      2,700 multi rocket launchers.
6,887 Field artillery cannons and mortars.
12,395 Special military motor vehicles. Troops falling at a rate of 12/1-14/1 in Russia's favour.
A military crushing, the likes of which, none of us have ever seen before (in other words).
Can you even begin to imagine what those numbers would read, if Russia did invade Ukraine?

I think the main issue is not that these are impossible to defend against, they are not impossible to defend against actually. The fact is that you can build over a thousand of these and still spend less than a conventional ship. Even the current weapons are barely fit to fend against these attacks, not because they can't, but because they're either impractical due to: not enough ammunition or fire rate, not enough accuracy; or too expensive to use against an expendable drone.
The main tactic I would imagine to work against these would be electronic warfare. Cut off the drone's signal to its pilot before it reaches you, but even then, it could go into a sorts of autonomous mode, like search for the nearest jamming signal or some sort of rudimentary radar to get a "something might be over here" signal and then use cameras to locate targets more accurately than the cheap radar could. There's still countermeasures against these that could work as well actually. I just don't know what they are, but I'm sure engineers more fit for this task have already figured this out.

There is a huge factor that can prevent the proliferation of sea drone Armageddon that you didn't cover, or at least hold it off from being nearly as dangerous and long ranged. Ukraine's sea drones seem to be using a satellite data uplink. That's the weak link here. If various rebel and terrorist groups are going to use sea drones at a distance where they can keep their operators safe while attacking using drones, they'll need a communications link, and if Star Link or whatever satellite service takes countermeasures against naval drone type activity in certain regions, then those drones are out of luck, and will have to roll their own radio communications. That is way harder than it may seem. Jamming seems to be the low hanging fruit of counter-drone warfare. A cargo ship might not be able to kinetically fight back, but I can see jammers proliferating as a first line of defense against terrorist and aggressor drones.

    • @thecooljohn100
      @thecooljohn100 6 дней назад +4

Jammers don't discriminate. If you're hauling a powerful long range jammer, you're going to be in as much of a communications black out as those drones. Also the drones have on board chips. There already exists completely autonomous sea drones capable of steering by themselves towards their target. Communications jamming would not help you against a drone who is doing all the computing internally. You would need an EMP in that instance. Phone chips are powerful enough to provide basic targeting systems for drones to indentify and attack targets all on their own. Pair that with on board Ai visual detection systems, and those drones will then be able to tell the difference between targets and choose priorities accordingly all on their own. All of this technology already exists, it just needs someone to bundle it all together in an explosive package😊

@@thecooljohn100 this is at best half true. a jammer will absolutely shut down whatever band of communications you set it for no matter who is using that band. however. any moderately competant military can chose to use bands they are not presently jamming to communicate. the trick is figuring out what band your enemy is using, jamming that band, and shifting our coms out of that frequency range. obviosly this is a lot harder than It sounds like and requires constant updating especially if both sides employ jamming and keep shifiting what bands are jammed. Russia used to be good at this however they have evidently lost the skill. in the modern day their jamming does work the way you describe as they resort to jamming nearly every communications band at once or shutting down the jammer to talk. that that is a mark of SHOCKING incompetence for what was supposed to be the worlds second most dangerous military.

A drone with a long range and towing capability that can slowly and stealthily tow the underwater drones much closer to the target before it’s released and heads to the target on its own. It would obviously be reusable or it could expend all of its fuel in a one way trip to get the other drone possibly close enough to hit Novorossisk. Another idea is having some of these drones spread out in the Black Sea acting as signal repeaters to speed up the response time for the controllers. Maybe there’s technical problems with that but something to consider at least.

  • @rashkavar

It is worth noting that the US Navy at least is in a very good position for deploying sea drone countermeasures as soon as they can be developed. American carriers get all the glory, but they operate in carrier strike groups, which includes an escort force of at least one cruiser and two destroyers, usually more in addition to the carrier itself. These ships are intended primarily to serve one task: keep the carrier alive and working. And by and large, they're very good at it.
From what I can tell based on their armament, a modern cruiser is primarily a platform for missiles - cruise missiles, SAMs, and pretty much anything else that isn't a ballistic nuclear missile (the USN puts those on subs) and is probably their answer for threats in the air. Destroyers typically are primarily intended to deal with submarines these days, but they also have a variety of small gunnery options for dealing with the little stuff. As such, the destroyer will probably be home to whatever systems they find work well against sea drones.
Also, it's very worth noting that while this is the navy of a wealthier country that the Ukrainians are harassing with these sea drones, it is specifically the *Russian* Navy. The Russian navy has never not sucked compared to other major powers in the world. Part of that is the fact that Russia effectively maintains 4 navies: Pacific, Arctic, Baltic and Black Sea, all of whom are pretty cut off from one another and thus have to operate pretty much independently. Part of that is strategic prioritization - Russia tends to favour land war over sea war, and since the early days of the Soviet Union, also favoured air over sea. Part of that is just Russian corruption at play - modern naval vessels are not only really big and expensive, but also really complex and really maintenance heavy. A modern navy needs sailors with a good education into how their systems work, a strong motivation to maintaining them properly, and a combination of discipline and good pay that is sufficient to make the vast majority of them not feel the need to supplement their pay by skimming parts to sell, shirking work, etc...and they need that even in peacetime since you tend not to have many chances to fix long standing problems with your ships during a war. This isn't to say the Russian navy is trivial, but of the major powers of the world, Russia's navy is probably the least capable of adapting to a new threat.

I predicted the fpv drones. Not sure if people listened to me but i described fpv drones with exlosives and 3d printed retrofitted parts in late 2020. It was in fact to a ukranian dude under a video about potential war between ukraine and russia. Again im not sure anyone listened to me. It was obvious really. Whats better then flying an explosive where ever you want to? And if you can do it cheaply too. It was no brainer really.

The obvious countermeasure is return of flak cannons (although more advanced with programmable charges) and massive shotguns. If it is too fast to hit it, obliterate the approximate area where it is. The most analog countermeasure to protect an aircraft carrier would be a water surface net trawled behind 2 smaller ships and the carrier in formation in between them.... something like The Ocean Cleanup net but larger. Several long range drones paroling in a perimeter around carrier group nonstop (potentially piloted by the AI) etc. There are many possible countermeasures, these things are just too new so nobody have them implemented and battle tested yet. It is same as with submarines in WW1.

    • @thecooljohn100

That literally is already happening with the Houthis in the Suez Canal. They've been using unmanned explosive drones to target cargo ships. As for what the US is planning to counter this; I'm sure they've been thinking about this for a long time and already have solutions. My guess is they don't want to show their hand to Russia and China just yet and risk giving either of them any viable ideas. The US is the most prepared for this, especially now that intelligence is being shared between the US and Ukraine daily.

It would take an ambush by a massive number of sea drones to sink a carrier.
The US CVN Washington took 4 weeks of torpedoes and bombs and still did not sink. It took demolition engineers to finally scuttle it. Additionally, CVNs are blue water ships that always operate in strike groups, meaning they do not need to operate with 400 miles of land and have many other ships protecting them.
The real threat of sea drones is in their litoral use. They are extremely effective at keeping cruisers and destroyers off coast lines and preventing beach landings.

They need to use mirror wrap film on their boats! I've been campaigning for this for a long long time, if they use a mirror wrap, it will literally be invisible predator camo! I got the idea from that desert speed roadster hovercraft thing from Star wars, to make it look like it was floating they had a box wrapped in that mirror film, and they said it on top of it giving the appearance that it was floating.. Why not use that same idea for a camo large tanks, fighting vehicles like Bradley's and whatnot, if you're going to be in an area to where it's really really open, or in a forested area it'll be as if it's not even there, then put an anti-reflective intent over it, not too dark just enough to wore off any reflection coming from the tanks boats drones.. it'll work, if you can get this idea to somebody, go ahead and do that I wanna call it Adams coat🤙🏽
