The great “Doug E Fresh” is the beatboxer. Also know as the “Human Beat Box”. Along with Slick Rick they made “The Show” and “La Di Da Di” two early Hip Hop classics.

They covered that song FLAWLESSLY!!! Beastie Boys the only ones that could have pulled that off besides RUN DMC

  • @jackiepapers138

Remember too, these rhymes are originally from 2 MCs. The Beasties had to split the song into 3's. They weren't just covering this song. They totally revamped it.

Can you imagine Run DMC's Tougher Than Leather tour, with the Beastie Boys in 1986?? Then The Beastie Boys went out on a headlining tour, with Public Enemy as their opener! Legends all.

Babe it was not the Tougher Than Leather Tour in 1986. It was the Rausing Hell Tour 1986. I know because i was there. In Dallas, Tx at Reunion Arena the lineup was Timex Social Club, then the Beastie Boys, then RUN-DMC headlined. Tougher than Leather didn't release until 1988.

This was VH1 HipHop Honors Awards Ceremony. A short lived awards show.

The 'Dougie' in Teach me how to Dougie is that guy Doug E Fresh, the original beatboxer. He used to make many appearances at live Beastie Boys shows, it was legendary. This was probably Hall of Fame induction ceremony for RUN DMC, so naturally all the Def Jam legends were in the building.

Thank you Travis and #ShakaShineReacts. 1st this is a master class on how to rework a song and perform it live. This was on 3-Oct-2004 VH1 Hip Hop Honors. That's a serious crowd to get them moving there heads, some Hip Hop royalty. When DMC is the focus of the camera and they rap his part of the song you can see the joy in his eyes. Flav getting down. They took Public Enemy of their first tour.

When you get the chance review what is rumored to be MCA’S last song before he died. According to AD Rock, “Yauch just wanted to make sure he still had it.”
The song can be found by typing “MCA’s last song.” The webpage is dedicated to all things Beastie Boys and I’d said to be run by Mix Master Mike (their dj). The song isn’t complete obviously but Mix Master Mike did a tremendous job working with what he had, adding beats and what not.
Grade the song not on perfection but from “what could’ve been”, “a man who loved his craft so much he tried while still suffering literally from throat cancer.” RIP MCA
    Hope you’re well,
    Charles

I believe this was a hip hop honors show on VH1. All the old school original class was there. I'm pretty sure I also saw Chuck D next to KRS. The beatbox is Doug E Fresh. I agree with you. Especially in this performance, Mike D was flawless.

I would add, there aren't many artists who cranked out this many songs at this level of quality for multiple decades. When I stop to think about it, it always fascinates me. Just a slim few come to mind... Michael Jackson, James Brown, Madonna (who the Beastie Boys opened for on one of her tours). There are certainly lots of one hit wonders. And also lots of short lived, but amazing talented artists elsewhere too. But the Beastie Boys put out 8 albums over close to 30 years, with a huge variety and evolution of sound. I don't think any other rap group comes close.

Doug E. Fresh is on with on Awesome I Fucking Shot That concert film too. If you haven't seen it, ya gotta. They gave out something like 50 camcorders and had fans film the entire time and edited all the footage together. So dope and creative. It's in their hometown at MSG.

i know im late to the party - this is easily one of my favorite live performances ive seen . one legendary group covering another legendary group with all of those pillars of rap in the building.
Its just too bad it was so long ago this is probably a VHS that was ripped 10x

They pass the mic so well because all they wanted to be when they started was run DMC. Run DMC were established when the beasties came up. Run DMC even gave them a song. I think what I am saying is that they learned their craft from the masters

Just watched this again. When you're talking about them handing off you gotta remember all they wanted to be when they started rapping was to be run DMC. I bet they were practicing sucker MCs in MCA s parents basement when they were just starting out
