Most people are hating on protogens because it has become the most basic sci-fi species out there and many protogen fans just don’t do a lot to make the designs more unique. That is without considering how much controversy there is from the creator who both made rules for the species and made the ability to buy rare protogens that break these rules by having things like multiple arms, multiple tails, wings, or three sets of ears. Created both a community of people making illegal protogens out of spite and a community of witch hunters yelling at anyone who made a protogen. Rumor has it there even used to be a huuuge blacklist that people could publically access creating even more witch hunts. Added onto the closed species made by the author, primagens, and how many people dislike closed species and it has left a poor taste in people’s mouths.

From my experience it's another example of overgeneralization. Some people including a few of my friends don't like protogen because a lot of people in the Fandom who have protogen fursonas either turn out to be horny minors, racists or other terrible people. Our community is very diverse, gender and sexuality included. Most people are hating on protogens because it has become the most basic sci-fi species out there and many protogen fans just don’t do a lot to make the designs more unique.
That is without considering how much controversy there is from the creator who both made rules for the species and made the ability to buy rare protogens that break these rules by having things like multiple arms, multiple tails, wings, or three sets of ears. Created both a community of people making illegal protogens out of spite and a community of witch hunters yelling at anyone who made a protogen.
Rumor has it there even used to be a huuuge blacklist that people could publically access creating even more witch hunts. Added onto the closed species made by the author, primagens, and how many people dislike closed species and it has left a poor taste in people’s mouths.

I'm so may layers removed from understanding why this is an issue.
1. Why is twerking (as a dance animation) considered inappropriate adult content? If you do it as a method of gyrating against another body then it becomes a simulation of sexual activity, but there's lots of in-game animations that can be abused like that. It's just another meme dance.
2. Why is people being obliquely horny in a multiplayer game anything other than a mild annoyance? If they start doing horny animations at your character repeatedly after you've told them you find it inappropriate, then that's harassment. But friends making vaguely-sexy gestures at each other in the same game lobby as you, isn't anything to get upset about.
3. Why associate one clique's inappropriate behaviour with their fursona species? It's not like all Proto fans are part of the same group! Irrationally stereotyping people based on the species they play as was a joke in That Episode!
Infact to the 3rd point: Doesn't most people do that for furries??? Like they're literally doing something that the furry fandom has been faced with for most if not all of their time existing. From my experience it's another example of overgeneralization. Some people including a few of my friends don't like protogen because a lot of people in the Fandom who have protogen fursonas either turn out to be horny minors, racists or other terrible people. Pattern recondition then causes some people to label all protogens as bad and so when they see stuff like this they overreact.
Like a lot of people, I think the whole "Protogen DNI" thing is really stupid so yeah, I don't pay attention to this whole situation.

Our community is very diverse, gender and sexuality included. I'm proud to be a part of such an amazing community, even with the few horrible folks that come out the wood work every year or so just like any fandom with big drama.
