    This machine was a beast! we got a couple at University, in our multimedia Arts department. Complete power-houses with video cards, good HD size (for the time) and fast enough for anything. The sound was absolutely incredible too, with it's inbuilt-sub woofer. Didn't have to go hunting for a zip drive too, with the built in Zip drive. such fond memories of this machine.

    Thank you, for posting this video. Back in the day, I used to travel to my local Comp-USA store because they had a dedicated Apple only section. Where, I would spends hours dreaming of this desktop system, why? Because at the time my first mac was an All-in-One 5400 with a 180 MHz 603(e) Power PC processor and in my head, I assumed this model would be almost twice as fast. Currently, in my collection is an All-in-One 5500. From my long since dead 5400, I transferred its Apple video system card (with RCA ports), Apple TV/FM radio card along with its matching black remote control, and G3 processor upgrade card. Also, I have added a two port USB "A" PCI expansion card. Now, it is as if, my old 5400 has come back to life (smile...smile).

    Great video. I can tell that I was the luck one, I was present on the last Macworld on Boston, august, 1997, they was selling the Performa 6400, it was just discontinued that month, august 1997 and the new iMacs was coming on 1998. I had a very bid discount, I bought it for U$799, a bargain. The original price was U$2400. The performa 6400 has the same form fact as the PM 6500. The 6400 was a good computer for multimedia content, on model even came with Video card for editing videos (not mine), I had a external scsi cd-writer and start to make my own CDs. The cd-writer it self costs as much as the Performa back that time! It was pure fun using mac those days, did not even have windows 98 yet!

Also has an internal fan, no Zip drive so a blank plate at the top, and an apple TV video system which has an internal cable to an Avid Cinema card. Still need to try the latter out as the software hadn't been archived properly last time I looked

    Some time ago I found a tossed out (in a dumpster) Power Macintosh 6500/250, matching CRT, keyboard, mouse, and some disks & programs. It works!! Needs cleaning, but seems to work good! Thank you 🤓 also has the optional Zip drive. If I am looking correctly, the modem is present in my 6500! The previous owner CPU fan mod was a good idea, but wasn't installed too well! Your video is incredibly detailed! Also did you place new thermal paste on the CPU? Also, the screen doesn't fully stretch to fill the CRT?

    • @68kGold
      @68kGold  3 месяца назад +1

      I did indeed repaste the CPU after the video (I forgot to do so during filming for some reason). And yeah, I think either the monitor settings were off or the 6500 didn't have the VRAM to run at its full resolution, maybe?

    Awesome content! One thing, though. That CPU definitely requires a cooling fan, and that fan was needed. I have a 6500/225 I'm recapping for a customer, and it also has the same fan inside. That could be why your game stuttered, because of heat issues on the CPU.
