      IIRC, it's basically a very potent mix of hydrogen peroxide, way more than what you might get from a normal grocery store or pharmacy bottle of the latter.

    Hi, i was trying to turn on my Macintosh IIsi adter long time (with also original monitor associated). It was working perfectly so far, but this time on startup it suddenly turned off and a smell of burn came out of the computer. After that, it was failing to turn on and was producing just some noises when pressing the power button. What do you think could be the cause? Do you think it can be just a matter of substituting the electrolytic capacitors? Thank you in advance

    The first time I ever sat in front of a computer, it was a Mac IIsi at my graphic design job. I was hoked! Aldus FreeHand was the software I used. I'm still a graphic designer using a Mac Studio M2 Max. Shown at 3:18 is the monitor I had. Shown at 26:52 is the keyboard I had. This Mac started my digital graphic design carrier.

    Some time ago I found a tossed out (in a dumpster) Power Macintosh 6500/250, matching CRT, keyboard, mouse, and some disks & programs. It works!! Needs cleaning, but seems to work good! Thank you 🤓 also has the optional Zip drive. If I am looking correctly, the modem is present in my 6500! The previous owner CPU fan mod was a good idea, but wasn't installed too well! Your video is incredibly detailed! Also did you place new thermal paste on the CPU? Also, the screen doesn't fully stretch to fill the CRT?

    • @68kGold
      @68kGold 4 месяца назад

      I did indeed repaste the CPU after the video (I forgot to do so during filming for some reason). And yeah, I think either the monitor settings were off or the 6500 didn't have the VRAM to run at its full resolution, maybe?

    I never really liked the IIsi until much later after the era of the Macintosh II family. My first Macintosh was the LC and from looking at this video it appears that the design of the IIsi was a bigger version of the LC design wise. the Macintosh II family was a very beautiful family of Macintosh and I miss them all now. Even though I am on an Apple Silicon Mac writing this response. BTW you did a great job on your restore. Funny (maybe not) as soon as you began messing around with the power supply the first thing I thought to myself was BAM! Which most likely had I been in the room with you while you were dealing with it I would have done because well that's just my sick humor. Nonetheless, thank you for a great video.

    My god man, you just brought back a lot of memories for me. That monitor, and the Radius one that you could switch between landscape and portrait mode. The Quadra 700 (the one Macintosh I always wanted) and of course the Power Macintosh 6500.

    Thanks for this! I just ran across the IIsi I bought new when I switched from a DOS machine. When it looked like I would have to switch to Windows, I thought if I was going to go to a GUI it should be a Mac. I can’t believe I would have paid that much for it! I have the monitor, too. It’s been in storage for ages but I am so glad I kept it. I’m going to see if I can get it running!

    This machine was a beast! we got a couple at University, in our multimedia Arts department. Complete power-houses with video cards, good HD size (for the time) and fast enough for anything. The sound was absolutely incredible too, with it's inbuilt-sub woofer. Didn't have to go hunting for a zip drive too, with the built in Zip drive. such fond memories of this machine.

    Great video. I can tell that I was the luck one, I was present on the last Macworld on Boston, august, 1997, they was selling the Performa 6400, it was just discontinued that month, august 1997 and the new iMacs was coming on 1998. I had a very bid discount, I bought it for U$799, a bargain. The original price was U$2400. The performa 6400 has the same form fact as the PM 6500. The 6400 was a good computer for multimedia content, on model even came with Video card for editing videos (not mine), I had a external scsi cd-writer and start to make my own CDs. The cd-writer it self costs as much as the Performa back that time! It was pure fun using mac those days, did not even have windows 98 yet!

    That disk drive cleaning was my favourite bit of any recent video I have ever watched lol. Great job. Do you have any suggestions about making power supplies safe? Do you have to earth certain components/capacitors before working?

    • @68kGold
      @68kGold Год назад

      I usually just let the power supply sit unplugged for a bit to let the capacitors drain themselves. Like ten minutes to a half hour. I don't think I've ever seen one hold a charge nearly that long, but just to be safe. Note: I am _not_ an electrical engineer so take my advice with a grain of salt, but it's worked for me so far. 😅

    I bought a Mac II si in late 1990. It was a big disappointment at the time, as it was very pricey, and it was slow as molasses right out of the box. It could barely run a Disney screen saver that just cycled static images. I upgraded the RAM from 4 MB to 8 MB, but that made virtually no difference. Even if the price were half that of what it cost new, the performance was too slow to justify the cost. I ended up selling it in July 1995, and bought a Pentium 100 machine to run the new Windows 95 at the time.
