Working my way through these, in no particular order, from early VH concerts, to tv interviews, to late night talk shows, to documentary footage, and finally to these Roth shows ....It occurs to me, that over the past 40 years, being misunderstood, by even both VH brothers, and any media person. Dave stayed true, to his goal.....Of having experiences in his life, just like his Uncle Manny did. And with the luxury of the Internet , all this can be captured, and viewed, long after all the misunderstood are forgotten.
Exactly. I always tell people that Dave is a genuine artist. He lives it large then brings it to the mic. All those songs have his point of view and sense of humor in them. Sammy, meanwhile, was singing about “sex without live” then about spank lines two tracks later. He’s a bottom line guy: whatever gets to the sales. Dave never worked like that, everything was an expression of his life learning. Even if it meant fewer sales
...I love Eddie forever...but I think the Van Halen’s Just didn’t have..brain cells to dig..the vision of American entertainment..outside of Heavy Rock that..Dave had latched onto his entire life.Dave was ..by far..the sharpest card in the pack...he really SAW the bigger picture of US..self-identity..through the Arts...and immigrant ethnicity and such.
Dave is a very deep person, complex, great communicator and interesting. The perfect other half to be with Eddy Van Halen who speaks through his guitar and not much else.
I loved Van Halen until Dave left. Never bought another thing after that. You can't have Abbott without Costello! I never really understood the full contribution of Dave until I saw these videos. Dave is a freegin genius, the depth of historical knowledge. Now it all makes sense. Nice work Dave!
I was at that right age when Women And Children First came out. Everybody Wants Some is the real running with the devil! What?! After that I was done. 1984 is good but when I think of And The Cradle Will Rock - nit much can compare. Women And Children First=hunger 1984= gluttony
My college friend hung David Lee Roth’s poster upside down in each room she moved to. why?? Because DLR quit the band or got fired!!! Van Hagar is not Van Halen
Oh my gosh, I love seeing and hearing all of these things that DLR grew-up on. And to see how all of these things he took in and then later on presented his own expressions of them. I love, love, love the Nicholas Brothers. Incredible performers. I think DLR is an encyclopedia set of TV, movies, radio, stage, music and different cultures. 🥰
I love DLR with all my heart. Just knowing you are out there David is awesome! The people that don't get you, well, just skim the top of the deep waters.
A big band version of "Jump?" I LOVE IT. I remember hearing Paul Anka destroy it with an attempt to do a big band version, just didn't work. But THIS version is hopping.
Great Dave. I can really relate to this conversaion. I was born in 1951, Newark,NJ; Italian family. I grew up with Rhythm & Blues, Doo Wop, Soul, Folk, Jazz, Rock N Roll, Gospel, Pop...we heard it all on the radio, played at the same time, on the same station. I still love and respect all genres of music. Love your show. Love your taste in music and art.
Defeat those Blues...Once in a lifetime so knowledgeable David Lee Roth Thank You...Best front man there will Ever be just a freak of nature...Love the Diamond one....
I am so glad I found this, I've always been a fan of Dave but as the singer in van halen. Now I see how incredibly cultured and intelligent he is and these shows of his are so interesting! And he's a genuinely funny guy too! 10/10
David & The Roth Show team: Welcome Back!! I prefer watching these on iTunes; I just stopped by here to make sure peeps were showing ya love! As usual, I am ready for the next one; but, the good news is I can re-watch this one while I wait!
Dave is,The perfect Articulated Story teller.Fantastic. To few of my kind of people.Moving in Stereo and Pictures of distribution . So glad,Dave's posting again.Missed you , Brother Dave.
I hope this gets a lot more views because it seems Dave works hard on this and I think its brilliant. My mind works at the same speed as Dave's which isn't always a good thing. But of you pay attention you can see the genius/madness.
Very cool show....where the hell did he find all this footage.... Must of taken him a while to edit this just right... A true entertainer.... Now we see where all his inspirations originate
A true honor, Mr. Roth, to watch you dance to me singing "Jump" (beginning at 11:25). Thank you. You're a true genius and it was my honor to sing your song.
Ahh, so THIS, is what someone with endless talents do in their spare time. BIG thanks to you SIR, for continuing to entertain myself and your infinite number of fans around the globe. Super happy to have stumbled on to this RUclips channel/video, or, whatever they call this. Much love from MoTown
Glad to see you're back. . . I'm collecting the puddle of melted brain left over from Season One. . . pouring it in through my ears, and getting ready for Season Two. I think I need to plug some of these holes in my head. . .
my favorite was actually the episode with the Himalayan survival guide. interesting. reminded me of the time i went to mexico on a student visa. literally.
I was in the generation of the SeXPistols and Black Flag.....Eddie was our anti-hero yet we knew much later (last month) the genius of Van Halen unspokenly. In my journey through the VH albums as of late and videos I came across this Roth phenomena to at first annoyance of "what the f*ck is with this guy" to the point of which I had to learn more. literally today I found myself in my furniture building shop putting TheRothShow on the speakers as I worked. Ive always been a random expression of better thought process for better head living especially when alone....Yet today I finally got it....Got him...Got you. Now I'm soaking in the breath of Roth smoke while exhaling the cloud of verve brought to you by a train of thought process rarely ever seen today. Made me remember when I was a kid I asked my Dad to rent a movie projector from the library and checked out a couple movies: Marx Brothers - Duck Soup and Abbot & Costello Meets the Mummy. Not genius but I was 8 yrs old. 2 yrs later When my Dad agreed to take me and a friend to see KISS at the Forum 1977 the intrigue of how far one could go seemed endless. Dave, I love your contribution to Rock n Roll and feel the only voice is yours within that band. More importantly what your process is with these videos are teaching or rather showing those who overlooked or wasn't brought to the layers of culture art and again i'll say verve that may steer one to a place in their mind to look further than what is shown today as a platform for Americana. For instance, The Mr. Goodbar 'Go F*ck Yourself....Do it today' point in the video was where It all clicked for me and knew I had to go to the next Roth Show video. You are diffidently a guy I would enjoy sharing a hand rolled cigar with. Todays culture needs the education you're providing. Rant on brother.....
A lot of the classic Van Halen music has those sing-a-long elements from theater or Broadway. Even if you don’t know the artist or the name of the song you know how the melody goes. That catalog is bigger than just the music. It’s a part of our cultural conscience. Everybody knows the Jump melody or the Panama chorus. Or most of those early hooks and riffs.
In early 80"s when jump was played every hour on the hour. I said I' would like to see Bob Dylan sing jump ' an started singing it in Bob Dylan fashion and it was hilarious at the time. Now of course the young folks would say jump? Dylan who?!
David, you need to have that big band singer on as a guest on your show. Not for nothing, but since he tweeted it, it's the highest viewed show you've done (just saying).
Alright, strangely odd -good timing perousing my subscriptions. Dave is Back! Un correlatingly, if that s a word, Im sitting here In Panama the country in the mountains with nothing to do but cook lunch an watch this. Thanks Dave.
DLR has never been a singer but an entertainer. Priceless! Too bad that out of Las Vegas there is no longer room and space for this kinda approach and larger than life personality. Glitter jackets, brass bands, movie stars, all gone with the wind.
Alice Cooper also merged the West Side Story combination on the School's Out album for the song " Gutter Cat vs The Jets ". Jimmy Buffet made a whole album based upon Herman Wouk's famous novel, " Don't Stop The Carnival ".
DAVE YOU WILL BE REDISCOVERED IN 100 YEARS FROM NOW AND PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU. YOU ARE WHAT AMERICA WAS CREATED FOR
He is Spectacular! I love you forever! DLR is VH, VH is DLR! ❤❤💋

David Lee Roth truly is a brilliant man if you actually listen to him. He's very intelligent if people would actually listen to him.
Dave is a very deep person, complex, great communicator and interesting. The perfect other half to be with Eddy Van Halen who speaks through his guitar and not much else.

You need to do a lecture tour David. Call it Roth-isms. I'll be the first in line to buy tickets
Always interesting to listen to you talk. And to those with the negative comments if you don't like it then change the channel!
Wonder why. Perhaps judging others indicates an empty place where Self and own business Should inhabit.
