  • While we've managed to capture Kaiser Cultivation Centre after a brutal few weeks of fighting, it's only a matter of time before the Federation mounts an overwhelming counterattack. It's become clear to me that I need more firepower to fight them off... and an old Clipper build from my past may be just what I need.

    PC Specs:
MSI GT75 Titan 8SF gaming laptop configured as follows:
    Intel i7-8750H @ 2.20 GHz
    NVIDIA RTX 2070
    32 GB DDR4 RAM
A Pair of M.2 SSDs in RAID (512 GB in total)
    A 1 TB storage SSD
With Elite on the M.2s and with the latest update (Update 12), there are few changes from Update 11. I get anywhere between ~30-80 FPS on the ground in Odyssey @ 1080p, depending on location and NPC density. Typically the game hovers around the lower end of that range and tends to vary a bit as I look around.
I've also noticed that my FPS in a space CZ is closer to 60-80 FPS with occasional drops down as low as the mid 30s as of late. Could be an Odyssey thing, but I don't recall that happening in previous updates. I'll keep an eye on that, seeing as there is no end in sight for this conflict...
I try to keep the FPS counter at the bottom left of the screen on at all times to give you an idea of what level of performance my PC can accomplish.

I can't believe that attack strategy works on capital ships!

Nice video! .. regarding the build, interesting for sure but i would probably at least change one of the beams for multicannon with corrosive effect + short range, it would not look visualy that good but probably will help a ton with those hulls

15:06 Is this a bug or Thermal Shock Beams stuff?
Additional note: Indeed, the most effective weapon combination on a Clipper is a "4 of the same" weapon. Maybe it's an illusion for me, but that's how I feel.

It's Thermal Shock breaking the game again :P
I really should get around to filing an Issue Report on that. Too bad it doesn't work on Thargoids :(
I agree with you about the Clipper's weapons - it does feel weird when running asymmetrical loadouts, like my 3x Modified Guardian Plasma Charger / 1x Thermal Vent Beam build for AX, especially since I have to fly sideways to use the PC on the nacelle.

Are all 4 thermal shock beams needed to stop them boosting? If not you could probably try oversized on the mediums for more damage or maybe even efficient or short range bursts for high damage at lower distro cost.

In some subsequent testing, only 1-2 Thermal Shock weapons are really needed to overheat NPCs, albeit at a slower rate. With 4, the effects are nearly instantaneous.
I have also been considering swapping out Thermal Shock for Oversized on some or all of the Beams. Using Oversized for all of them results in a net 10 DPS increase over Thermal Shock, so it would probably be a noticeable improvement - I'll have to test that at some point.
Interesting suggestion about the Burst Lasers - with the Short Range Blaster mod and no Experimental I'd get roughly 20 more DPS over my Efficient Thermal Shock Beams; with Thermal Shock on all four it's closer to 10 DPS. It's certainly tempting...

Do the effects of more than one thermal shock weapons stack? I thought it was not possible.

In a way, they do: Thermal Shock can only raise a target's heat levels to around 95%, regardless of how many Thermal Shock weapons you have hitting it; however, multiple Thermal Shock weapons will hit that limit much faster. With my four Thermal Shock Beams, the suppression effect on NPCs (no boosting, less maneuvering, no high-heat-generating weapons, deploying heatsinks if they have them, etc.) occurs within moments of firing.

@@CMDRTheRiz Thanks for the info. Setting your opponent's "resting" heat to 95% is more than enough to make them sweat if they wanna fight back - primarily thinking in terms of PvP, but I see how it can completely suppress NPCs as well.

Thermal Shock might be detrimental in PvP, as pushing an opponent's heat up that high will allow them to more easily proc the Thermal Conduit Experimental for PAs and Beams. In addition, heat damage was nerfed a while back in an attempt to fix an issue where heat damage ticks were counted multiple times depending on the number of other players in an instance, so directly melting opponents might take a while 😛
