Glad RUclips suggested this video. I'm a 6 year Echo 225 owner. No issues until noe. Was going to get a 266 until I discovered Honda has a few 4 stroke trimmers with an attachment system similar to PAS. I even tried an EGO battery trimmer. Worked great but short battery life.
We also have a lawncare company and we use Husqvarna and the 525 is probably 1 of the best weedeaters on the market and I have 1 that is almost 5 years old and still runs like a dream VERY GOOD INVESTMENT
I’ve been running the same model for years and this year got a new one and same problem I returned it twice and every one I keep getting is doing the same thing!
I have had the same went through 5 machines for same issue including getting burnt from hot oil spraying from exhaust they can care less i got the same saying and they laughed at me go have a good day
thanks for taking the time to create and post this video.. on a related story i own a stihl fs45 homeowner range trimmer and our local shop charged me 30.00 last year to look/diagnose the issue last season...still didnt run.. so i went online, purchased new carb. for 15.00.. 20 minutes of my time to install..purrs like a new one.only thing else i had to buy was a T27 torx bit...your story is different in the fact that echo should have covered the full repair as like you stated..still under warranty and that makes good business sense too.thanks for posting the video keep up the good work
I have a Echo 2100 a bought back in 1991 and I do a lot of cutting I still have it but bought a new stihl that I got screwed on , I only bought it because I was just wanting something new and the Echo was too small I didn’t know any better all them years how much a bigger unit would make . 30 years and all I did to the Echo is changed the filters and plug one time just because I felt like it , it has lost a little power but still starts on 3rd pull and doesn’t miss a beat. 30 YEARS Is CRAZY
I have considered going to Stil outdoor power equipment and trying their 94 string trimmer with the 400 trimmer head. I have been cutting lawns for almost 20 years at this point and time.
I used only Echo brand oil in their pre-measured 1 gallon mix size bottles but had the same oil problem you describe from a Echo weed trimmer that for me was past it’s warranty date when it began. While wearing rubber sandals a red hot drop hit my foot. Figured A wasp got me and just rubbed my foot across my other pant leg and kept going until another drop got me and found oil dripping. I believe mine is ring or reed valve related as it is collecting under the muffler and carb seems fine. Soon after the mechanical issue, Echo failed to stand behind a few week old gas hedge trimmer that was in warranty. After their lack of support I switched all new purchases to Sthil and also changed my local sales vendor. I have since made purchases of Sthil’s large straight shaft edger, their largest extendable gas pole pruner, the 610 mid size commercial chain saw, and a mid sized weed eater and not even considered Echo at purchase. I had been an Echo man prior to their lack of support always wanting to keep it all the same brand. My daughter is having a house built and I got her a Honda mower and will be buying her a small straight shaft weed trimmer. It will not be an Echo. I have no expectation any other brand would have the integrity to stand behind their products, I just know I not giving any more money to Echo because they proved to me they won’t. I’m only one customer and Echo has already lost a lot of sales just from me.
I’m having the same issue. I’ve torn it down three times for a complete cleaning. Dealer says the mix is rich but like you I’ve ran the same mix in all my other equipment with no problems. I’m giving this one to someone and going shopping.
Great video. I'm glad ur shop guy went to bat with u. Guess Echo authorized shop. The guy was rude. He asked where I brought it from. He said take it back there . I said u are an authorized shop correct. Smh. He made It seems everything was my fault. He dont like people that don't purchase from he's shop I see. I change the carburetor myself watching a youtube video. Boom 💥 everything's fine. I had it last than 6months residential use. Wouldn't even do a warranty.
Well actually the shop did NOT help in anyway. It was the Southease Distributor that was told by Corporate after seeing the video to take care of it. The made it right and gave me two 2320T to replace the 225's and the engineers wanted to see then. Never heard of what they found out about them.
A lot of places are that way, saying you didn't buy from us. I try to avoid the box stores because the warranty won't be any good because of the you didn't buy from us attitude. If I buy from you, then I expect your help when I need it. A shop that doesn't help will get their favorite response, in reverse, right back from me.
I have an srm 225 as well. Before this year it performed flawlessly. Only used premixed trufuel in it for the 5-6 years I’ve had it. This year it won’t start. Changed spark plug, carb, and coil. No luck. I’ll get it working eventually but won’t be buying another one. Was great while it lasted.
I have an SRM210 circa 2008... Same spewing... changed all filters, spark arrester, changed carburetor, changed fuel... now it runs 20 minutes, quits and doesn't start again for 2 days.
Try a complaint to the BBB, FTC, Attourney General … if you fail, serve their registered agent a lawsuit in small claims. Ask them to buy back the trimmer. At that point they can hire an attorney, respond, file a brief, etc. or they can replace the trimmer
Same issue bought a carb rebuild kit and just replaced the diaphragm the one from factory was not very pliable must be from sitting in inventory for a long time mine is only 3 months old works like a charm now
I just got this trimmer from Home Depot 2 weeks ago. It it light and has good power but it has leaked and smelled more than any trimmer I’ve had since the first day I used it. I used the mix they recommended to me in the store. After watching this I’m over it about to return it right now and try different brand. Oh by the way my chainsaw is echo and leaks a lot too.
I just purchased a new one just last month. It's an echo 225 and its leaking oil. I've only used it about 5 times. My neighbor bought one In 1999, and it never leaked. I guess I got one that was made on Monday after the weekend or Friday before the weekend.
They done me the same way on a edger I used 5 times for no more than 10 min. A residential owner and they told me I left fuel in it over the winter. which I didn't. That was about 20yrs. ago and I just purchased a Pas trimmer. I hope I don't have a problem with it. They seem to not care about the little man.
Your video was super. I had an echo pas 225, done the same as yours, it would spit and sputter oil and when I put it up it had a big oil spill. I had to change the carburetor from amazon, less than 13$. And it fixed the problem. I wish I saw your video 2 month ago. From the rainy season of big Vidor texas.
I bought cheap weed wackers for years and finally got an echo 5 years ago. I'm putting a new carburetor on it today rather then rebuild the old one. $13 to get another 5 years sounds good to me.
I’m having issues with my Echo SRM-225 trimmer too. I’ve purchased several pieces of Echo equipment in the past. This was my last to purchase from Echo. Sad because they did make good equipment in the past.
I am parts manager at a lawn and garden store in NC. I am also the warranty administrator. Been there since 2017. We had Stihl until 2019 when they wanted our dealer to pay $5k for the dealer license for one year. We dumped them and went to Echo. I can tell you that Stihl nor Echo will warranty a carburetor. Echo even has a sheet to fill out for carburetors and I've had 2 claims both rejected with both sucking air past the throttle valve. However Echo will pretty much fix anything else. We have had 2 PB-8010s that had scoring on the cylinders and they replaced the short block on both of them. Another customer broken the end of the choke lever of his SRM-2620T and they replaced it. And believe it or not, yet another customer purchased a SRM-225 and was using it to trim around his pond during the first use when the speed feed head went flying off into the pond and we found that the threads on the head had a burr which prevented the head from mounting fully. Yep, they paid the claim with the head lost in 20 feet of water. The problem with the SRM-225 is oil and carbon will build up on the flame arrestor screen and if the muffler gets hot enough, the build up will liquify and spray outside the unit. The flame arrester is one thing required to be replaced when servicing even though Echo does not put them in the service kits. I can say that the SRM-225 is not made for commercial use so if you have those hours in a short amount of time, it may be overheating causing the oil spraying out. Hopefully your carburetor holds up but the Echo carb is made by Walbro. I would have supported your dealer by getting the carb and a service kit from them, so then you and the dealer could have shown the suits at Echo what the fix was a rubbed it in their face with their own product. I would have called their customer service number as well to complain. Hopefully what you did keeps it fixed. Please keep us informed on the progress.
Check out my channel for what Echo finally did to replace both of them under warranty they gave me the 2320 T. They sent the two faulty ones back to Echo for the engineers to take them apart. Never had any problem with any other echo even homeowner agreed with a spoon oil out in the first hour or two of operation. I’ve been told unofficially that there’s a design problem with that specific engine that nothing except redesign will fix.
I feel your pain.In my case I'm just learning how to repair everything from youtube videos. So far i have repaired 4 generators,2 lawnmowers and 3 trimmers. The best trimmer i have is an echo 2620.I don't worry about warranties anymore.
You mentioned your commercial operator. Trimmers not under warranty any longer you don't get that two-year warranty if you use it commercially that's not a commercial machine their definition of using it commercially is going to be using it on any yard other than your own
I have a GT-225. I am having the same issue with oil coming out of the exhaust. I was told to clean the arrestor screen. I did burn it off even though it was clean. I replaced the carburetor, new air filter, spark plug and fuel filter (since it all came with the carb kit). It still leaks. Now I start it and pull the throttle trigger and it dies. It starts up great. What the hell else could it be?? Our dealers in the area can’t even look at it for 6-8 weeks.
@@GwinnettLawns I got a srm 225 and used a muffler off a srm 2100 and it solved my problem the problem is the catalyst in the muffler. but if you are shopping for a trimmer i recommend a EFCO DS-2210S or a husqvarna 525L, LS, or LST.
I’m a Stihl guy. I respect Echo. But I just had to take my KM 111 into my dealer last week because it had a broke bolt where the motor mounts to the shaft. Covered under warranty. I bought a FS 94r last week. It takes a lot bit to warm up. But power to weight ratio is awesome! Good luck on your search
Thank you for posting this video.I just dodged 4 bullets. I was about to buy 4 echo trimmers. Cant work with companies you cant trust to be there at times like this.
Just get the 2620 or 3020 trimmers they’re phenomenal and I still use them to this day. All of my stick equipment and blowers are all still echo as they ended up making the warranty claims I had right.
On the newer echo trimmers, you have to retighten the carb bolts a lot and make sure the gasket is still there. Those bolts loosen and if you don’t act fast the extra friction caused by the loose bolts will disintegrate the gasket and could burn the unit up. You also have to clean the muffler system and spark arrester quite often.
I know this is a old post. But did this fix your problem? I just bought a used 225 and mine is leaking oil from exhaust. I checked spark arrestor and it is clean
I just bought a Echo SRM 2026 fill it with echo red armor fuel 50:1 it just won't start it started leaking oil from the muffler. I returned it got another one, just won't start. I don't know what's the problem.
I'm using the same one but I haven't seen oil from the exhaust. Glad the fix worked. Have you looked at the Edgeit pro? I just got mine and it's awesome.
Yes I have several videos on how to install and use the Edgitpro on several different string trimmers. Echo replace the two string trimmer‘s and gave me two 2320T’s instead.
Curious to see what the results are with the cheap carburetor after you have run the trimmer for another 10 hrs or so. Can you please share the results?
I have had great results with the Huztl carbs sold on Amazon. I am only a homeowner, but have 2 to 3 seasons of use on my trimmer and edger with no problems. Still going strong.
I have crafstman since 2009, they still working good, I use seafoam and stabilizer from homedepot, I do 6 yards a week "6 houses" ... only echo 8010 blower, screw them, try to sue, that I will do, God bless you
my echo srm225 leaks gas from the air valve and oil from muffler and i use the good gas and echo's "red armor oil". I changed the carb last year and does the same thing. But thinking about it my trimmer is about 5 years old
i have this same trimmer 225 and this same problem . i dont pay attention to it ive been cutting 64 houses a week for 2 years with it .. my biggest problem is not the oil but i cant turn it to the sides to edge in diverse . it could only directly right side up or right side down
Loosen the 3 screws down on the bottom of the shaft which will allow you to easily turn the head 90 degrees. Then retighten the screws. It'll take you 30 seconds. Then you can easily edge all you want with the fuel tank upright the whole time. You'll be able to hold your handle and fuel tank upright as you always have, but your trimmer head by the ground will be on its side allowing you to edge all day long without turning the fuel tank on its side as most people do when they edge. Turning the trimmer on its side can be OK if your tank is full of fuel, but not so much if it's low because the fuel may not get picked up so well if the tank is on its side with low fuel in the tank.
Wow this makes ECHO look pretty bad. Glad to know , i have an Echo Chainsaw & Blower, and i will keep this in mind. I know you are meticulous about your maintenance, so i doubt it could be an issue on your end.
I had a lot problems with echo srm 225 weed trimmer for 6 years and bought echo srm 2620 that’s vey powerful trimmer I’ve been using the 2620 for year no issues. Before echo I had husqvarna xl 325 trimmer for 20 years it’s been great no issues
I replaced mine with one of the eBay carbs year later still going good. I am looking into a stihl fs94r or redmax Bcz260 will prop be my next. Trimmer I wouldn’t mind having a echo 2620t. But no service really for them in my area.
id avoid the fs94r, oddly enough i relate to this because that was my first trimmer, i later purchased a bcz260TS which was an amazing trimmer(same as the husqy 525LST, only thing i didnt like about the redmax is the cheap feel, its light but feels a little cheap. i landed on buying an older 266t which is heavy but i still havent found my perfect trimmer yet.
I been hearing all the new Echo low end Trimmers have Problems leaking out the motor case , carb issues all kinds of stuff lol .. They say if you have an old ECHO SRM 230 you should hold on to it!!! lol. I still have an old SRM 230 ! lol been running LUCAS old and pump 93 octane all these years .. I bout a Ryobi trimmer for my son thats been running strong for 2 years now and thats a 25 cc engine lol .. we are farther and son lawn care ... the Ryobi was cheap and I wanted him to learn on it before running something else .. Ive run the thing and I was impressed its a freaking pretty nice Trimmer !! lol I know they always made decent power tool and figured let me try there new Green trimmer for my kid lol .... But I want another Trimmer and I’m in the market for one but don’t know what to go with ..
if theyu already are screwqing you, chop down the mixture by 10 parts. is the plug all fouled up? run a hotter plug. take it to a real engine guy and get hgim to fix it and sensd echo the bill. or like my other comment, get a real trimmer. I have a craftsman i found on the side of the road. ive been using it 2 seasons and just guess the oil. i just pour some in. i siezed it the other day. opened it up pounded it with a piece of wood and hammer to get it free. poured a bunch of oil in it ands puilled the cord about 100 times, sealed it back up and mixed some real fuel. works mint. got like 10 hours on it. i even had to chop a filter and primer bulb from a different working one that had a curved shaft. ohh yah, used a cereal box for a gasket for the carb. runs mint.
I understand. I have the same issue with my 225 but it works as a charm as hasnt failed me yet. I've used stihl trimmers and I hated them. I have used husqvarna trimmers liked the feel, power, and light weight similar to echo. However, the build quality on husqvarna seems cheap compared to echo trimmers. Echo Speed feed takes the cake compared to other trimmers as far as time saving.
I own the same SRM-225 and it had grease in the muffler from day one, Echo said you are not running it hard enough to burn it clean (2 hours steady is not getting it hot?). Echo knows their oil leaking problem is not a defect and makes excuses for their design flaw (most likely a timing change for emissions).. All fuel system problems are not part of their warranty, no consideration even if the part is defective.. I switched the oil to some universal kind from Lowes for all mix ratios and the spooge stopped leaking from the muffler.. I used Amsoil in the past and its a great product, you may try the marine type to see if it burns up in the trimmer (lower flash point for water cooled engines).. All these companies will defend any warranty claim to save money, had the same customer service issues with a Remington chainsaw made by MTD.. I used to work as a mechanic and refuse to be intimidated by some dickhead agent on the phone over a 100$ POS expected to waste my time and money to prove to them there is a problem with their consumer JUNK.
I'm a new lawn care entrepreneur. I was looking at all the Echo products when I upgrade from Toro / Craftsman / Homelite. The reviews are littered with people complaining about leaking oil. And to see how you were treated under warranty... I did buy a used Echo blower, and that will be the last piece of Echo equipment I ever buy. Currently debating between Stihl and Husqvarna.
I'm curious to know where the high-speed screw was set on the original. After removing the darn epa plug of course. My pas 225 has just a bit of oil out the ex too and I'm thinking of leaning it out a bit. . . heh
I like Husqvarna. Never have had problems or premature failures, starts easy, better handling, lighter, just as powerful and more productive. Dont like Stihl. Have an Echo hedge trimmer that had same issues. Fixed ot myself. Wont but Echo again. I like the 525LS.
Hey I found your vid as I'm having trouble with my ECHO 220es strimmer running at high speed, it will tick over and rev a bit but then die if I try full throttle. Need to get into the carb HS adjustment screw I think. As for your problem, maybe the machined face of the engine block isn't perfect where the carb sits. This will cause leaks and also mess up the fuel/oil mixture. Also maybe the gasket where it mates needs replacing. Good luck 👍
@@GwinnettLawns awesome man! Thank you for the quick response. I might have to bite the bullet and buy one. Do you know if my PAS 225 edging attachment will fit the PAS 2620? Also, is the extra power noticeable?
@@oklahomasooner7686 I believe the attachments are the same for the 2620 and the one that you have. The power difference is amazing it feels like it’s two or three times more powerful it’s unbelievable. Watch my video on where I put the speed feed 450 head on it with a .130 line. I was cutting down some grass it was about 5 feet tall today and it didn’t bark it down one bit.
@@msburrage74 Echo replaced both of them under warranty after I did this video you can search my channel for it they gave me two of the 2320 T units and I have had zero problems with them at all.
My PAS 225 from Home Depot does the same thing. Oil from the exhaust since day #1. I have the PAS 230 and 2620 from my dealer which this does not happen. My dealer does not even sell the 225. The 225 has never failed on me but this seems to be an issue. Another issue with my 225 is when I turn it sideways to edge it cuts out. The others I have do not cut off. Still an Echo fan as every line has the cheap entry level equipment. Spend a few more $ because you get what you pay for unfortunately.
Michael did you ever figure out a solution for your oil leaking and it cutting out when turning it sideways to edge? I just bought mine about 2 months ago and is starting to do both of these and I want to see if I can fix it. Thank you for your time.
Mine has about 5-6 on it and it has little splatter coming from the exhaust I use premixed so it's not that. It's not much but there's some oil drips/splatter on the plastic in front of the exhaust.
Oh well i was debating between redmax and echo items, guess you helped me make my choice..sorry and thank you at the same time...btw worst part is how did the dealer not fix this 🤔
My opinion is not to buy the Stihl I have the fs94 worst string trimmer I have ever bought. Will not start when hot. They have a vapor locking issue. That's actually what brought me to your video. Looking for new trimmer thinking RedMax might be the way to go.
I do construction and when we were slow it seems I was always put to work on the boss’s property weed eating for hours and hours. It’s a love hate relationship weed whacking. The love was the stihl equipment I always had to use, very powerful and smooth and loved the sound of stihl. The hate was the nonstop knee high weeds for it seemed like miles and miles. I would get so tired and wanted to get done so bad that I would hold that thing wide open throttle and just run through that knee high stuff. I literally tried to blow these things up and they just seemed like the harder I was on them the better they ran. I now own nothing but stihl power equipment because of my experience with the durability and the sheer raw power of these little 2 strokes. I love husky and echo and really all the big name equipment 2 strokes but my go to is stihl. I have a little ms180 miniboss I bought about ten years ago for firewood. That little ms180 cut everything and I mean everything I put it too. I have cut down and bucked trees that were way too big for that ms180. Hours and hours of nonstop use and I’m not easy on my tools. If I can break my tool then it’s not good enough for me and I need something better. My homeowner grade stihl equipment has always had the power and durability to last through my bullheaded hard use. Ms 180 chainsaw the 56 rc somethin like that straight shaft brush cutter and a handheld blower that I got for free I had to put a carb on it so I was into it for 30 bucks roughly. I take care of them with good oil and up keep but I still work the pi$$ out of all my tools. They start everytime I need them and run great. I would love to have some pro stihl equipment but I can’t justify the cost.
I am late to this party. I am sorry to see your troubles. My 2 cents is: Stay with Echo. One bad item out of ??? in commercial use doesn't seem bad. My issue is with the dealer ( if you have a long history with them). With a history of purchases, a prorated or free replacement is in order (to me) after a couple attempts to fix the problem. He could recoup the cost of the replacement by selling the oily one without warranty discounted as-is or for parts. If there was a bad batch of trimmers, the dealer would be more likely to know through the dealer network,
Why repeat "echo chamber" lies? When the clutch of my trimmer broke down, I went out and bought the cheapest AUD94 (USD62) HBC25SJSN 25.4CC Home-lite BrushCutter complete with bump head + tri-arc blade and with Ryobi expand-it attachment capability. 5 years later, it still starts with ONE pull and trottles at above 12,000RPM. An Echo equivalent would be a 25.4cc PAS series model that would cost me 600% to 1000% the price I paid for my Home-lite. The Echo SRM225 only has small 21.5cc motor.
Wonder if this is an issue with newer models? Have a PAS225 bought in 2012, still very clean, no oil spitting. The carb is adjustable after removing the EPA plug.
The old 225s would burn it all off of the muffler. The tech said the old mufflers had a catalyst that would incinerate everything. The new ones are more compliant, therefore the oil buildup. This came from a rep at Texas Outdoor power. I’ll never buy another piece of Echo equipment
Hi Russell if they gave you a new one it would be the same thing l have 3 that do that trimmers l like redmax 326ts Husqvarna 525 l or Ls or lst Stihl fs94r hope that helps l think the srm225 needs a double piston ring maybe?
Sorry for all the trouble with echo I’ve been cutting since 1997 I’ve always had really good luck with Redmax I don’t know about five years back I tried a Shinda trimmer it was there light duty commercial version it did not hold up but it had that awesome head and I’ve use that head ever Since on my red max trimmer‘s really couldn’t say enough good things about the Redmax you should definitely check into one if you’re looking for something else hopefully the carburetor fix the problem but I’m very surprised at echo anyway stay safe and good luck john for Michigan
I had the same problem and it wasn't the carb. It was the spark arrestor gunking up. The 225 is the only model that does this and no one has an answer for it.
I have echo pb 580t echo pb 8010t backpack blowers the 8010 have tons of power I,like it the 580 have plenty of power it will push wet leaves with no problem I bought the 8010 this fall for massive fall clean up. The 8010 moves tons leaves
The problem is the air/fuel ratio, mixed with the oil that the operator is using. High quality oils clean out the engine as it's running, and the carbon should be burned off. However, because the engines came too rich from the factory, instead of burning off the carbon they puke it out the exhaust. To fix this problem all I did was lean out the carb.
Why is this model the only one that sometimes does it and for others it won't? Also, I have never had an Echo unit do this either before or after. Does not matter because Echo took both back and gave me the 2320T units which do not do this either.
@@GwinnettLawns ...What do you mean they took BOTH units back? I thought the issue was just with the SRM 225. Good to know they finally took care of you. Too bad you had to go through the hassle to get something done...shouldn't have to be that way they should have taken care of you from the start. Your post is buried here in the comment section where many might not see it. I saw you have link to the outcome I'm watching it next.
@@harryberry474 they took both SRM 225 that I had back and gave me two 2320 T models instead. They said they were going to send them to the engineers to take apart.
I bought this same trimmer last summer (2019) and I’ve only used the pre mixed 50:1 gas and I noticed that mine is spitting oil too. I’m left handed so it got all on my shirt and pants. I guess this means it will be a waste of time for me to contact anyone about this. I’m curious if the carburetor replacement fixed the problem. I’m not lying, I bet I used this trimmer maybe 10 times at the most and I have a very small yard.
I’m 12 and trying to start a mowing business I have 8 customers but I bought this trimmer and it has become a problem because the oil is dripping on my arm when I’m edging but I can’t afford to get a new one so I called echo and they just pointed me to a local dealer to repair it bud I know it’s not repairable unless you buy the carburetor so I will try to buy Stihl from now on
Stihl did the similar thing they never made good on the warranty it cut up while the dealer was gassing it up in the parking lot while I was still paying for it and brought it back 5 times all they would do is adjust the carburetor so I fixed it myself it was the intake gasket was damaged that’s right on a brand new trimmer so it’s not just Echo that will screw you , oh and PS their excuse they gave me was they said you always keep it wide open when mowing no regulating the throttle and asked if I knew how to use a weed eater
I’m having the same exact issue, I have less than 30 minutes on this trimmer with the same fuel mix the dealer put unit when I bought it, I haven’t even used what they put in. My wife went to pick it up and they charged her $20 because they said the spark arrestor was gummed up because of improper fuel mix. I couldn’t get them to understand I wasn’t the one to fuel it up. I’ve been running Stihl products for 35 years and pretty shure I know how to mix fuel, I only use non ethanol and Stihl synthetic blend mix, so it looks like I’ll continue using Stihl equipment.
Redmax uses good Walbro carbs. When Echo was owned by Kioritz they used Walbro carbs. And my BCZ260TS that is lighter than your 225, and will blow away your 2620 in terms of power.
Great video brother , wish I would of seen this before I bought my echo . Have always been a echo buyer but have the same problem with the same model , guess I will have to go another route . Thanks so much and takencare
@@danielsalazar299 It ran great and reduced the spooge by about 80% but did not totally eliminate it. I think the carb is a main part of the issue but something else it amis with that particular model.
@@GwinnettLawns of course they make it right for you but they wouldn't do that for average Joe's who dont make a youtube video about it. You should still forsake them, if this really is such a common problem and they commonly refuse to fix it then they deserve to go out of business.

thanks for taking the time to create and post this video.. on a related story i own a stihl fs45 homeowner range trimmer and our local shop charged me 30.00 last year to look/diagnose the issue last season...still didnt run.. so i went online, purchased new carb.
My pas225 was doing this. I pulled the limit caps and leaned the carb up some to about 400 rpm below max and that fixed it.
Well apparently echo knows all this which is why the won't honor their own words
I’m having the same issue. I’ve torn it down three times for a complete cleaning. Dealer says the mix is rich but like you I’ve ran the same mix in all my other equipment with no problems. I’m giving this one to someone and going shopping.
I had a problem and the carb was running to rich....
My 225 has started leaking oil after use, will try to rebuild. Stihl’s having a sale right now might switch over.
Same issue bought a carb rebuild kit and just replaced the diaphragm the one from factory was not very pliable must be from sitting in inventory for a long time mine is only 3 months old works like a charm now
I have the same trimmer but never had a issue with mine. When you have a warranty they should replace or repair the trimmer.
Echo should have taken care of the problem without question.
Great video. Echo just went down a notch in my book
Rub it in their faces by putting more money into their pockets, makes perfect sense.
Trimmers not under warranty any longer you don't get that two-year warranty if you use it commercially that's not a commercial machine their definition of using it commercially is going to be using it on any yard other than your own
I’m a year late, but my PAS 225 is having the same issue. Echo said kick rocks dude. Such a shame
I believe it’s a cylinder and piston issue design flaw. There is no way to fix it.
I bought a new srm 225 and did the same thing. Today I put eBay carb on. We will see if it fixes the problem.
Saw a video of the same thing and it's the check valve letting too much fuel thru.
Ive also noticed if you don’t run full throttle for a while the carb build up with gunk
I know you made an update video but I can't find it!! Wish you linked it or put a card up
6 year old SRM225 here, thing still runs like a champ.
It’s all brands now due to epa standards. They require a lot more maintenance and cleaning.
I know this is a old post. But did this fix your problem? I just bought a used 225 and mine is leaking oil from exhaust. I checked spark arrestor and it is clean
Mine only has around 2 hours on it and it is starting to slowly spit out some small droplets of oil on the inside of the exhaust plastic housing.
I just bought a Echo SRM 2026 fill it with echo red armor fuel 50:1 it just won't start it started leaking oil from the muffler. I returned it got another one, just won't start. I don't know what's the problem.
Enjoyed the video. Well done. Do what you know is right. Life is full of this kind of thing.
Same problem here. I do the mixing according to what the oil bottle says, from echo. So,maybe is time to try other products
I just bought a 9010 and a pas 2620 ... I hope I don't have problems
You won't those are bullet proof.
How about that little pump and o’ring ? in the carb?
Thought it was just me but I have the same exact model and looks exactly like that. I was wondering what is this gunk now I see what it is...
Have the same trimmer. Have the same issues. Hopefully this works for you!
Echo 2620T is hands down the best trimmer I think you can buy.
if theyu already are screwqing you, chop down the mixture by 10 parts. is the plug all fouled up? run a hotter plug. take it to a real engine guy and get hgim to fix it and sensd echo the bill. or like my other comment, get a real trimmer.
Yeah this comment I agree
I have 225 echo ,I don't understand why its blowing out the carburetor
How are you keeping track of hours?
Hour meter
Are you running 50:1? My 225 blows a little oil out the exhaust but I keep running it anyway. I switched to red guard oil and it's not near as bad.
The only problem I had was the225. Eveything I have is Echo and has been bullet proof.
Why didn't the dealer put a new carburetor on it
🤷♂
Hey there..., Good job so far on your videos. Was wondering if I could have the Bosch clock since you're not using it. LMK, thanks.
LOL mmmm I think I want to keep it but if I do want to get rid of it then you can.
I think they should come to the party myself. Come on Echo do the right thing guy's this isn't good pr for your company.
The fs94r is light very nice trimmer
Your only problem with the black oil coming out of the exhaust was that screen. I had the same issue and it fixed the issue by removing it
All my 8 other Echo have the screen and they don’t do it. The screen was %100 clear when I took it apart. The issue is the cylinder/ring design.
Good luck 👍
Are the carb settings sealed and unserviceable on this unit?
My PAS 225 has the same exact problem. Does anyone know if the 2620 model has the same issue? Love my other Echo products.
No the 2620’s are bulletproof, I have several of them. It’s only the 225’s that have the issue.
@@GwinnettLawns awesome man! Thank you for the quick response. I might have to bite the bullet and buy one. Do you know if my PAS 225 edging attachment will fit the PAS 2620? Also, is the extra power noticeable?
My 225 tends to bog down when I get into thick edging
@@oklahomasooner7686 I believe the attachments are the same for the 2620 and the one that you have. The power difference is amazing it feels like it’s two or three times more powerful it’s unbelievable. Watch my video on where I put the speed feed 450 head on it with a .130 line. I was cutting down some grass it was about 5 feet tall today and it didn’t bark it down one bit.
I am having the same issue. Did that fix the issue?
Nope
Well…. So we just have to live with it I guess. Lol.
@@msburrage74 Echo replaced both of them under warranty after I did this video you can search my channel for it they gave me two of the 2320 T units and I have had zero problems with them at all.
@@GwinnettLawns ah ok. Cool! Yea I will definitely search for it. What’s the title of that video? Or is it easy to find?

Mine has about 5-6 on it and it has little splatter coming from the exhaust
I use premixed so it's not that. It's not much but there's some oil drips/splatter on the plastic in front of the exhaust.
Oh well i was debating between redmax and echo items, guess you helped me make my choice..sorry and thank you at the same time...btw worst part is how did the dealer not fix this 🤔
True but in the end they made it right. Just to be clear I only have Echo and nothing else has any failures all bullet proof.
Do the same issues happen with Shindiawa?
I have this trimmer and run it less than 10 hours so far this season , low power oil shoots out exhaust etc
Well that's even more of a reason to go with STIHL and shit can the ECHO
How does the spark arrestor cause the exhaust to spew oil?
@@wingerrrrrrrrr the spark arrestor gets clogged. That model for some reason is the only model that does this. Not sure what it is.
Was looking at the PB 8010T for the warrantee but now I have to question it's value.
Thanks for the video
I have two 8010T's and they have been flawless. That's the only blower I would own.
Just started having this problem with my 225
I have echo pb 580t echo pb 8010t backpack blowers the 8010 have tons of power I,like it the 580 have plenty of power it will push wet leaves with no problem I bought the 8010 this fall for massive fall clean up.
I have 3 of them and there all new and they all leak the same way oil so bad it leaks on my floor
Hey- Lefty here and I get the same thing with this trimmer. Did you happen to find a solution?
Carb just need adjusting
@@georgecarty943 running too rich and blowing out unburned fuel oil mix out the exhaust?
Oil coming out of the exhaust is nothing to worry about all my saws my blower and my trimmer I'll get a little oil out the exhaust
None of my other 10 pieces of Echo equipment or Toro have even a drop coming out of the exhaust ever.
I’m 12 and trying to start a mowing business I have 8 customers but I bought this trimmer and it has become a problem because the oil is dripping on my arm when I’m edging but I can’t afford to get a new one so I called echo and they just pointed me to a local dealer to repair it bud I know it’s not repairable unless you buy the carburetor so I will try to buy Stihl from now on
All these loyal Echo customers having same issue.....And Echo has made NO COMMENTS. Thats what they think of us!
I did an update vid on the situation and they took care of it and gave me two brand new 2320T units and they have been fantastic. Love them.
@@GwinnettLawns any updates on if you switched brands?
@@GwinnettLawns in response to your video or was it part of the normal customer service response?
@@wingerrrrrrrrr They saw the video so the distributor stepped in and took care of it.
Redmax uses good Walbro carbs. When Echo was owned by Kioritz they used Walbro carbs.
And my BCZ260TS that is lighter than your 225, and will blow away your 2620 in terms of power.
4 min in .. My guess time for a new carb?? I have the same issue with my old echo 230 string trimmer and thats my resolution.
Great video brother , wish I would of seen this before I bought my echo . Have always been a echo buyer but have the same problem with the same model , guess I will have to go another route . Thanks so much and takencare
Check out the follow up video about this issue. Echo made it right and gave me a 2320t and its been flawless!
How did the carb fix work ?
@@danielsalazar299 It ran great and reduced the spooge by about 80% but did not totally eliminate it. I think the carb is a main part of the issue but something else it amis with that particular model.
Rhanks my brother , I’ll stay away from that model , God bless !
@@GwinnettLawns of course they make it right for you but they wouldn't do that for average Joe's who dont make a youtube video about it. You should still forsake them, if this really is such a common problem and they commonly refuse to fix it then they deserve to go out of business.
