Sadly sometimes in life there is no winning move just making your opponent work for it was in a wrestling match in high school guy threw me around like a rag doll but I didn't let him pin me😂 sometimes all you can be is an annoyance but rather be an annoying than roll over
I was playing as some human barbarian thing (I’m still learning) I asked our bard if he could cast that insanity thing on me. I rolled high and went NUTS there was an entire army of these weird alien looking things and I just cut through every single one of them, I rushed them and ran into their little wall so hard I knocked them down for 6 turns, I lost my weapon so I used my fists, they pinned my hands down so I used my feet and head, then my teeth. I killed about 18 of them in this adrenaline fueled rage, what happens to stop this you wonder? The ground next to me got hit with a friendly fireball because bro missed and I fell down a chasm (I survived, but still) Unfortunately our bard rolled low on fixing the insanity on me so we had to leave him within the cave, they say in order to get the character they might go back since the bard is a bit better now because he’s pretty physically strong.
That's why he said DIFFRENCE between honor and victory. He's implying that honor won't bring you victory. That honor is useless and that he should strive to achieve victory no matter how. In the end, honor does no good for the dead.
i think an alternate interpretation is that they are one and the same considering that honour in feudal japan is literally just winning for your lord; the concept of "honourable" as in "fighting fair" is a western interpretation
Fun fact: that shuriken was Owl sekiros father, In one of the endings it is reaveled that the hirata estate incident and plot of the game was owls attempt to become immortal
To be fair, winning the fight just to get a cutscene loss is pretty consistent with their other souls-like games. Elden Ring, for example, literally pulls a “rocks fall and you die” event if you beat the grafted scion at the beginning.
"A shinobi should know the difference between honor... and victory". ~Genichiro This guy was willing to do everything for his country, no matter the price. He won't play fair.
The best thing about this boss fights, is that unlike other souls game, seguro has VERY limited character upgrades, meaning that when you actually fight genichiro, it won’t be much easier than the first encounter. This shows extremely well the growth of the player, as you have to beat the boss you were meant to loose to with not many upgrades
At that point, he might as well keep both arms and get a different story line where he doesn’t need the prosthetic arm, because the player clearly doesn’t need it.
If you think of it that right there is literally a lesson wolf hesitates to strike him down and he lost. Sekiro dont forget, you hesitate you lose. That is the way of war.
Genichiro Ashina is a great first "boss", final boss for Act 1 of Sekiro, and warm up for the final boss. First time playing it, he shows you what youre in for walking into the game. Of course you would lose to him easily, due to having no feel for the controls and no muscle memory for his moves. But he doesn't overwhelm you, notice how he is lacking some of that aggression that you see the 2nd time you fight him (No Hawk Shot/5 arrow barrage, uses a running double slash that he doesnt use in the 2nd fight, actually shoots you if you run from his Floating Passage, etc.) He is strong but fair. What I really like, personally, is that the fight is also good for returning players on a nostalgia trip. Even without the combat arts, prosthetic tools, Mikiri Counter, and a good amount of Healing Gourd sips, you could beat Genichiro relatively easily. Also I just like how he, despite obtaining more power, he is simply no match for Sekiro at this point. The man who lopped his arm off falls to said man. After he has had an entire journey to hone his skills to a fine edge, when the first time he struggled to draw his blade, to immediately drawing the blade with ease. I think thats real neat. Wish we got more games like Sekiro that require skills over stats or tools (tools = weapons)
A trick is to open the door into the tunnel and after the cutscenes in the field. Make sure you have low health and jump off the cliff. You will die and spawn in the tunnel again with full health and there r multiple endings and I think beating this boss is required for one of the endings
Honestly thought this was ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ at the very beginning and I thought that dude wasn't in GoT and then he said Sekiro and I was like oh yeh that's not GoT
This Is Actually Great, Unlike Tsushima Where even emptying Khotun Khan's Healthbar Doesn't Do anything... Some gut fought Empty Bar Khotun For half an hour and gave up cus There's no alternative Like Sekiro Where they made two different Cut scenes And also when you go to the Ashina Castle later There's two different lines depending on whether you beat him on initial Encounter
I have played the game since it came out i have somewhat mastered it if i say so i have one against genichiro when you defeat him the scene he shows plays and wolf proceeds to say you have no honor or something and genichiro says a shinobi knows the difference between honor and victory and the line continues so basically its a canon event
I feel like in games like this, if you beat the "unbeatable" boss, you should get some sort of legendary gear or something. Definitely should be rewarded IMO.
Technically, you win if you empty his 2 health bars In that instance, Genichiro needed help to beat you, which meant he was unable to win by himself so he'll have to live with that disgrace
After beating genechiro they should have given the option to fight isshin directly here and if we beat him then we acquired a new ending and if we want to continue, we can where we are free to go for shura ending and if we die in isshin fight we go back to this cut scene where we get our hand cut.
