What makes Isshin so special is how he is literally the whole game thrown at you in the form of a man.
He has *everything.*
Sword attacks to deflect, bullets to deflect, lance to Mikiri counter, wide sweeps that require jumping and even lightning reversal, all into one boss.
If Genichiro was the gatekeeper, Isshin is the final test, and his _"well done, Sekiro."_ is directed at you.
If you managed to beat him, it means you mastered the game's combat system, and you deserve respect, something that Isshin shows you in the end.
@Skibbity Bop I honestly find terror/curse to be a bs mechanic, cus even if you deflect it you get hit. Corrupted Monk had a good twist with the terror attacks tho
Well, well done if you beat him by not running away from him and keep on backstabbing him in phase 3 when he goes for the jump attack with his cross naginata.
He doesn’t have every mechanic but at least he leaves out the annoying bs ones e.g. terror, enfeeblement
Inner Isshin is in my opinion in another level. He throws everything on you COMBINED in all his new attacks, especially his new jump.
Respect for pressing on buttons... *what*
I love how nobody ever complains about isshin, it's only respect for the fight.
nah let the journalist get their hands on this game and oh boy will there be something coming out about how the games racist or sexists
Miyazaki is a genius
In my opinion it's the hardest boss I've ever fought but it also feels completely fair. Every death you have to him feels like you lacked the skill to defeat him. It doesnt feel like he is broken or has a stupid move that cheeses you. Definitely my favorite boss of all time
@@bubfusion due to this being the internet your opinion is now invalid (joke)
@@bubfusionNo its not fair. He is by far the hardest boss and enemy i have ever fought in a videogame. And believe me i have fought a lot.
Man nothing will ever beat this combat system.

after sekiro even elden ring combat feels disgusting for me and nothing is the same... sad... even more sad is that sekiro was just an experiment
@@68freak Nah bro they gotta make another one don’t say that. And bloodborne 2😭
Absolutely. In Sekiro u just havent to react to the movements of the boss, roll at the right moment and hope u can land an attack without being punished . U proactively can attack and the boss has to defend. Love this combat flow.
yeah its definitely my favorite sword play game out of all the from games. you cant just spam light and heavy attacks and expect to win.
I still have extremely vivid memories of the time I got isshin to 1hp only to fall off the cliff trying to dodge his stupid lightning. I got emotionally scarred that day.

I love Isshin’s line “which means, sekiro” being a way of subtly telling the player that it’s Isshin himself you’re facing since in the entirety of the game, only he has called Wolf by that name (instead of Okami)
wolf literally means ōkami
Isshin is the one who gave him the name Sekiro (which means one-armed wolf) I'm pretty sure he addresses him as Sekiro throughout the game.
Overthinking and bs for no reason?
Not everything need to have deeper meaning
@@DivineBananaprecisely lol
@@skofnungisminewdym overthinking that’s literally what the scene is telling us. It’s not some illusion or some representation of Isshin in his prime, him calling Wolf “Sekiro” literally tells us that this is indeed Isshin Ashina.
This is still one of the best boss fights fromsoft ever made.
Hell no
True, but also one of the hardest lol
Also one of the hardest. But malenia had taken the throne for me as the hardest boss from has made or rather, the one I struggled with the most...
@@genesisosuna you gotta stagger her . else its nearly impossible to kill malenia .
@Hare75 The Lowly Tarnish Radahn is awesome but by far the most unforgiving boss in the Souls Games. On par with Demon of Hatred

Me too.
Same here. The most accomplished I’ve ever felt beating a game. This game challenges me on a personal level 😂

I have only defeated Ultimate Isshin & it took 8 hrs! Currently trying to beat Inner Isshin from S:R!
Sekiro's combat system is too good for only one game it needs several games like souls did
But is difficult to implement it over again. Maybe they sould do a mixt combat system game. Where you can fight some enemies with parry and posture and in the other hand, enemies that force you to dodge as in the souls saga.
@@ValentinPagliari u can dodge in this game I beat the old fire isshin without parrying just dodge into him to the left
@@youngbreadwinner2780 Yeah, but you understood me. This game is focused in parry.
@@youngbreadwinner2780 That Isshin you can't exactly deflect everything, otherwise he sets you in flames in alot of attacks during his second phase.
You probably already know but in March there’s a game called Rise of the Ronin coming out and it looks like its combat system is very similar to sekiro’s just with more weapons like spears and rifles
This game has more of a fantasy element than I thought. I had no idea some of the enemies were supernatural
There is a lot of supernatural monster/humanoids/animal enemys
@@tempek8167 ya I see that now. My first impression was it was just an historical action game, like assassins creed or the like. Makes sense there’d be a fantasy element tho, it’s a From game.
It's deeply rooted in Japanese folk tales. Pretty much all the fantasy elements are inspired by them to some degree.
@@kjvail tbh even ghost of tsushima has fantasy stuff, so yea, its kinda hard to find a feudal-japan action game that doesnt have at least some of that
There's a boss called "Demon of Hatred" and it's a giant demon lol.
One of my favorite details about this fight is that not once does Isshin use the Mortal Blade's flames, he wants to fight and win based on pure skill and technique.
The spear, gun, and lightning, he'll use everything but the sword that kills immortals. And in a way, he shows his respect to Sekiro in this way. Sekiro doesn't openly use the Mortal Blade, so neither will Isshin, he will simply use it as a sword, and nothing more.
Until you fight Inner Isshin...
Tbf, the Inner bosses are Wolf reflecting on those fights and being like: “What if these three particularly strong guys I fought, used EVERYTHING they had knowledge of?”
It could be that the charge time for the Black Mortal Blade's flames is unacceptable for Isshin and opens him to counters, as it does Genichiro.
speak for yourself, I used the mortal blade quite a lot while fighting him lol

If greatest Final Boss, then yes you're right
This and gael are my favorites
@@EvEvEvelieni honestly like isshin better than gael, gael being as fun as he is is a very easy fight. İsshin is the true test of the games combat and you need to have mastered every aspect of the game to beat him
Ive always seen the whole game as one big tutorial just for isshin. I love how sekiro which translates to "one armed wolf, or even starving wolf" and isshin translates to "whole heart, or one mind." They even have opposite colors. Isshin is regarded as the sword saint and sekiro (which is only given to him by isshin.) Dies nameless "no one to mourn them". Both essentially living for battle were made for it but fight completely different. Isshin believing in honorbale battle and an honorable death. Sekrios combat is unorthadox and defies the morals of honor because hes immortal. Isshin went his whole life as a mortal but came back just to have an imortal stand off with both mortal blades. (Sekrio dragon heritage) (isshin reguvinating waters)
Imagine how easy malenia would be for sekiro to fight
Funny enough, Malenia can also die twice
wolf would easily deflect her bs move
Its believed her moveset is actually lady tomoe from a cut sekiro dlc
I think shed actually be tough purely because she can heal even if you block her attacks

An incredible boss fight. It took me ages to beat him but the feeling of pride, relief and elation I felt as I triggered the final death blow, amidst the fading adrenaline rush and the weight of the game's narrative... there are very few moments in gaming that can touch that.

Easily 1 of the best last boss fight in gaming history.
Truth be told, Sekiro is my first From Software game. This fight with Owl (Hirata) is the most memorable fight for me.
But on the other hand, the fight with DoH is just (can't stand it) i won purely out of luck with no more resurrection nodes, no more healing items and 1 spirit emblem.
Never thought im gonna say this, but once mastered Demon is much easier than Isshin and Owl.
This game deserves a dlc or at least a second game bc god damn fromsoft is a legend for making this game. 9.5/10 game. I would give 10 but guardian ape exists.
Nah, Sekiro actually required From Software be creative, Elden shit proves to them that all they have to do is copy paste dark souls and put in a larger world with 3 times more bullshit and voíla, game of the f**king year, or, as some SoulsBourne c*cksucker said "OmG iT's THe BeSt gAmE oF tHe DeCade, iT's sO uNiquE aNd RefReshIng 69/10, THis gAmE woUlD bE TalkEd AboUt UnTil tHe EArtH iTSeLf dIes"

3 years after first starting Sekiro, I finally beat Isshin for the first time last night XD. My journey with this game is a roller coaster for sure, as I played it very off and on, and my first time getting to Isshin, I couldn't even get past his second phase. Not sure what happened last night, but I recently started a new playthrough on my PC, and I ran through the game so much quicker than my first time, and when I got to Isshin, he was still hard, but I took him down on like my 10th attempt. And bosses like Genichiro and Owl who took me dozens of attempts each my first playthrough only took like 3 apiece this time through. My goodness, Sekiro is so damn good XD. Only took me three years to realize it haha.
I am in your boat friend, back in 2019 I came unstuck against lord isshin so much so I moved on to other games but it was festering in my head. So early on in the year I restarted the game and I always say 2nd round times a charm. I slayed all the headless and gained the increase in power attack item.
7:34 I love the slow motion moment, Isshin blocking the initial strike and then Sekiro reversing to finish him off. Amazing animations in this game.
Imo sekiro has the best combat in any fromsoftware game. Bloodborne is definitely close tho!
Fr. Ds, demons souls and Elden ring can’t compare
bloodborne combat is the same as dark souls/elden ring tho, dodge and spam r1
@@hanyu_dada not exactly though. No shields and the gun parry timings are a little different along with the fact that being aggressive is rewarded with some health regen
@@arnesh- you can use Melania rune to cosplay bloodborne
@@hanyu_dada It's waaaay faster paced though and with better/cooler weapon designs and animations. You also dash in Bloodborne (which makes a huge difference) instead of roll. Parrying is also different as someone already stated. Also, you CAN NOT spam R1 in Bloodborne. The first mandatory boss will teach you that very quickly.
The fact that Isshin is regular skilled worrior noting godly in him and still he is the best make me admire this man
I swear Isshin is one of the best/Hardest boss i have ever faced
My favourite fromsoft fight. Wasnt the hardest for me in this game but boy was it the most beautiful.
Sekiro and Bloodborne are my fav fromsoft ever done. Just finished Elden Ring i was in awe but i am still not sure, since theres still secrets of lore to discover from it, but from what ive experienced, the Elden Ring impact will take some time before a new game that gets released tops it, or at least level with it.
I'm playing this game for 3 years now, stuck at mist noble
Still the hardest fromsoft fight
Skill issue
Isshin, "The Sword Saint"
*pulls out a fucking pistol and a literal spear out of his ass* that is the most bullshit thing i ever witnesses in my time gaming
I finally jus played sekiro and I’m in love. Beat both my play throughs in the same week. Id love to see a dlc giving us more of ppl like lady tomoe, lord takeru, and maybe even a prime isshin??
Idk if I’m the only one but this is the one boss fight that makes you wonder if you’re ever gonna beat em
I was expecting elden ring to have more of this type of combat. I personally think it is the best combat system fromsoftware has made. It kind of sucks going back to the stamina and the weight of your armor and only being able to roll as your main source of defense. Not to mention the cancels, in sekiro you can cancel an attack mid way in order to block or parry or dodge or jump or just move away in general, whether to reposition or to run away. Meanwhile elden ring if you throw it, you must commit 100% because there is no canceling.
In my opinion it is just a lazy way to make a game feel more difficult. Taking options away just to make things feel harder. If sekiro combat was an option in elden ring, I really wouldn't be struggling as much as I am.
You can feint heavy attacks in elden Ring and shields are pretty fucking good if you used barricade or the spell version of it and just block and two handing shields make its super hard to take damage
ER somehow take the good part of dark souls 3 and the worst part of dark souls 2. And it getting more of dark souls 2 the longer u play.
Git gud.
Even though I hate Elden Ring for the most part and I prefer Sekiro as a game, I don't think it is a lazy way to make it more difficult, is just a different approach, but the stupid and bullshit boss battles? Now that's a lazy way to make it difficult
@@ripaniki6775 how do you feint? I tried everything and my guy just fully commits all the time.
this fight is so hard but so good when you win
It hardly felt unfair, that's why it was fun
Can we just take a moment here to appreciate how Isshin accepts that you bested him despite him being immortal. Like it's the game just accepting you won, you put in the work never gave up and mastard the combat system. In a way it's like fromsoft them selves saying: "well done n00bs, you finally got gud. Now go face gauntlet of strength and have your ass beat again.
Genichiro as Kenjiro Tsuda always gets the handome, badass characters
4:18 this attack is so cool
And Sekiro ends in the best way possible, a fight to an OP isshin ashina, it´s awesome how he gets out from beyond through genichiro body and recovers youth and strength progressively, you got the honor to fight a dead legend that have returned from hell, I hope in a future we will get Sekiro 2
Most useful item for me in this fight is hidden tooth. Combine it with bundled jizos and you have plenty of chances without exhausting healing items
And I'm still waiting for it.. the Sekiro DLC
the ultimate fight of all gaming history
Definitely needs a sequel or a prequel maybe where isshin is the main protagonist

I’ve gotten the platinum trophy for every Soulsborne game to date and I will always say the two most challenging boss fights by a country mile is Darkeater Midir from DS3’s Ringed City DLC and this boss Isshin the Sword Saint. I’m a little partial to this boss being a little harder and feeling the most rewarding though. From all my Soulsborne game experience if I had to pick one boss as the “true final boss” of Soulsborne I couldn’t think of a better nominee than the Sword Saint.
