At 94 yoa. I am finally learning that the swelling I have dealt with since approx my 30’s is lymphedema. Been watching Bob and Brad for a few years but never came across this one. A million thanks. Now I know what the spot on my leg is. Several years ago I asked the dermatologist and she did not know. From another video I learned that cellulitis can be a complication of lymphedema. (And my family teases me about my You Tubes!)

i have a doctor and she know my legs are red and swelling. She said it is because I am overweight. It sucks. I feel like I am being ignored.I have learned more from internet video's than from her.

What else is new? Doctors don't want to help fat people. All you will get out of them is a lecture about the evils of fatness--as if you don't already know you are fat--and how it must be your fault for eating too much. They won't even test you for health conditions that cause weight gain, like hypothyroidism. If you do suddenly lose weight--and don't know why--they won't care if that is caused by a disease, either. They just want us to disappear. Unfortunately, you have to take care of yourself.

Yep..the docs don't want to heal us anymore...they want us to stay sick so we have to keep coming back and they can take our money....You just do your learning on your own...ask GOD to guide you...and you will learn more, and be able to help yourself more than anyone else ever could. And you can find natural healing or natural medicines too...so you won't need prescriptions for the meds that will help you...NATURAL (GOD'S) MEDICINE is the best ! expensive! but worth it!

Swelling from knee down, means a couple of things, I'm not a DR, but sweeling is when the blood isn't reaching the heart, and that's a circulation glitch(about the blood circulatory system), where veins that unlike arteries, have no muscule in the vessel itself, it can help the flow of blood throughout the system, whereas veins are completely flaccid and have only valves that prevent backflow by gravity action pulling blood backdown. They(veins) are in the muscle tissue such that even the muscle toning itself that most are unaware of, it has to be done to keep them tonal(clench and relax is toning the muscles like any warm up in a race or actions to be done using muscles, race weights, etc. So, when the muscles contract really forcefully it's a kick in the system and rushed the blood to the hearts sue to positioning in the muscle.
So, the left hart pushes blood through muscled arteries than can add to or be relaxed as needed to get the blood to the other side of the system, the capillaries where some are one blood cell in diameter. Forcing into the cells nutrients and waste going outside the cell to the veins to be returned to the lung via the other side of the heart that pushes it into the lungs where in washrag fashions squeezes into the small chambers the artries, only now it is full of th oxygen you just breathed in. A build up of CO2 initiates the oxygen exchange, the sighs the yawns to iincrease the amount, headd to the heart arteries smaller arteries to capillasries again, and back up.
Lymphedema is swelling that isn't about just swelling, but involves the lymph collections, wste and macrophages that engulf bacteria to enter lymph glands to be cleansed. Basically, a lymph circulation and a blood circulation conjointly acting to help with fluid dispursal.
It isn't your weight necessarily, ever see Grandmoms who have giant legs but are skinny as rails?, or just 'fat' feet. Go see a Dr.

    Hi Bob! Great intro!!!
After extensive pelvic nerve surgery, I developed lymphedema in both ankles and it is climbing up the back of each leg now. I had professionsl lymphatic drainage therapy for a year and the hard knots by the ankles will not go away. The therapist advised me to get them drained. What kind of doctor does that? My doctor and surgeon did not know!!!
(P.S. We are lifting Brad up in prayer.🙏🧸)

      @dr.reviewsfrompersonalexpe7603 2 года назад +1

Draining them is useless they will fill up, jumping on a small mini tramp, it’s called “rebounding”. Your feet don’t have to leave the tramp mat, there are many videos on this key word “ rebounding”
Also compression Garmets will help, massage over time will tell the body to lay down new lymph vessels, one last thing, you might get checked for venous insufficiency which is easy cured with laser or series of shots.

Thanks Brad! I have gone to see a lymphedema therapist who is trying to find compressions socks I can wear for my swollen ankles, etc. The person who sent me there was my foot doctor. My internist thought I had leaky blood vessels. . . Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. I am still swollen. .

Thanks for this video not that is matters but I am African American. I got diagnosed with lymphedema 33 years ago while pregnant. It started at back of right calf up near the back where the bend of leg. It was a hard itchy lump. Kept complaining each doctor said do different things. They let it get out of control. They threw the term around but NO ONE explained to me what it really was. They just said it causes swelling. There was no mention or explanation of it being an issue with lymphatic system not working properly. To this day my right calf is discolored the skin is darkened it feels rough, hard, it's itchy. Hurts to touch. It NEVER RETURNED to normal size. Now my right ankle is swelling really bad. & My right knee been bothering me for months. I am concerned that the ankle swelling could be lymphedema. I was told in past it was explained to me as if I didn't wear my surgical support compression stockings I would get elephantiasis? Where my legs would get really big. Again it wasn't mentioned that the issue is lymphatic system not working properly & the condition could return it's nice to even see a video to explain the basics of lymphedema

I have COPD and use oxygen. A few hrs ago, I was having more trouble breathing than usual but not to, what I thought, was enough to be serious. However as the day wore on, I became worse. My whole body was swollen rock hard but no pitting at all. I ended up calling for an ambulance. As the EMTs were evaluating my condition, they indicated I had a certain kind of edema wherein fluid builds up so much that puts pressure on the lungs to where they can’t expand properly so, I couldn’t get enough oxygen. I was rushed to the hospital, admitted where they administered Lasics through an IV. What kind of edema was that?

Since 2000,Feb I have worn compressions stockings daily, and without them, swelling with blisters and fluid, water leaking and blisters open and path for bacteria is almost assured. With stockings less problems, as wound clinics at hospital is costly. I try to treat myself and works out ok. 7mmHg-15mmHg, best, minimum 15mmHg-30mmHg I got a pair at Anchor Pharmacy for $67, 7-14mmHg, $20 for 15-30mmHg, got on internet got 3 pair for $20 from China 7-15mmHg, $67 for a pair of needing must have stockings??? Seriously disgusting price gouging.

Lymphedema can feel like a bruise. Before I was diagnosed I went to the ER because of pain and was diagnosed with deep bruising. It was actually pain from lymphedema and swelling, but most doctors know very little about this illness.

    I had a spinal fusion of my L4, L5 & S1.
About a month ago I started dealing with my legs and feet swelling up pretty bad. I've got all three of the warning signs. ER gave me antibiotics cause for a couple l days they got red and were fairly painful and hydroclorthizide to get the demma fluid to expelle. And they sent me home. The redness went away but the swelling just isn't going Away. What should I do.

If the doctor thinks the swelling is lymphedema, ask for a referral to a licensed lymphedema therapist for an evaluation. Don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion if needed. I wouldn't be as concerned about the feet and ankles in regards to lymphedema, but you can have it checked. I'm curious about the hydrochlorothiazide since it's a blood pressure pill with a diarretic. You might want to keep up with your blood pressure, especially if there are aneurysms or cardiac issues in your family history.
Note: I'm not a doctor, but I have 9 specialists I see every week or so because I'm disabled and in a wheelchair, plus I have lymphedema and lipedema. You learn a lot when you're always at the hospital or doctor. (PCP, vascular surgeon, internist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, pain mgmt, orthopedist, lymphedema therapist, etc...)

I had a four level lumbar fusion in January. In the hospital I was checked for a clot by ultrasound. I had swelling primarily in the left leg, back and abdomen. The physician who could make the referral for me to a Lymphedema Clinic and give the diagnosis of venous stasis was my General Practitioner. Now both legs are being wrapped daily, pump hopefully ordered.

I have this condition to the severe degree...and my doctors do nothing but give me water pills. yea...lay down and put your feet up...well, these 2 things by themselves don't do much to help BUT, the last part of what DOES work is the compression stockings....when you do all 3 things...water pills, elevate, and wear compression hose....that will bring my swelling down and give relief. My legs got so swollen and hard they began to weep....my doctor told me this is an emergency, yet did nothing about it...I did my 3 things...and my leg was better for a while. Oh, stay away from salt and SODIUM (soda pop). These things are very bad for lymph edema!
