Seeing the elytra with the fireworks in slow motion made me realize that the particles are emitted from the rocket that is held. Which makes sense, but for some reason I always thought the particles were emitted from the center of the player or at their feet...

It could be slightly different because whatever program they use for art combines identical frames. So to get the right amount of frames for the firework sparks, one needed to be duplicated but changed slightly so it wouldn't get combined.
I notice this even less than other players. I didn’t get to the end yet, so no elytra. I usually use fireworks and elytra in creative because it’s faster than the regular flying in creative mode.

So I'm kind of guessing, but the main reason for the different spark names is probably because of decrementing the file name. Since the sparks change texture over time, you'll notice they swap between the types. Kind of like a countdown. Then when it hits 1 or 0, it "dies" and the particle is removed. As for why they use so many files, I do not know, nor do I want to know. So much of Java is hardcoded (like the inventory) that it wouldn't surprise me if the particle system requires a specific set of files to work right.
"You're leaving a trail of *imperfect* firework particles", can't wait for the spark_4 to absorb spark_5 and spark_6 so spark_4 reaches it's *perfection* then run a game.
I know you are joking about it being absolutely terrible, but I like it. It isn’t incredibly perfect like a billion dollar company’s game, but rather an Indie game with a small team that still make “mistakes“. Not to mention asymmetry can be great and Minecraft has a lot of it, consistently inconsistent.
Fun fact I learned while making pixel art for the Minecraft grass block: The is exactly one slightly different shade of brown in the dirt part, looking more like a rusty brown. (For those curious, the pixel in question is in the 5th column, three from the bottom.) This will forever annoy me until my dying breaths.

My guess is that someone did that on purpose while working on the rockets, to make it easier for them to distinguish between two different, but identically looking textures.

Seeing the elytra with the fireworks in slow motion made me realize that the particles are emitted from the rocket that is held. Which makes sense, but for some reason I always thought the particles were emitted from the center of the player or at their feet...

Correction: SethBling did *_NOT_* use your spherical Minecraft system to generate the sphere physics, as you said in your intro. That is very incorrect. SethBling used your spherical Minecraft system to generate the sphere _graphics_ only. He programmed the _physics_ himself, with no help from you.
It could be slightly different because whatever program they use for art combines identical frames.
So to get the right amount of frames for the firework sparks, one needed to be duplicated but changed slightly so it wouldn't get combined.

I notice this even less than other players. I didn’t get to the end yet, so no elytra. I usually use fireworks and elytra in creative because it’s faster than the regular flying in creative mode.

I'm glad I'm part of a community that manages to find even the most hidden offset pixel in Minecraft textures.
Thank you Phoenix for showing us even more inconsistencies with Minecraft's textures. This is definitely not rage-inducing for the community.
Maybe they copied an older texture, then decided to change the color manually, but missed that one pixel in #4
Put a bunch of hidden among us crewmates in various sprites that you would never notice but if someone tells you it will ruin your day every time you think about it

So I'm kind of guessing, but the main reason for the different spark names is probably because of decrementing the file name. Since the sparks change texture over time, you'll notice they swap between the types. Kind of like a countdown. Then when it hits 1 or 0, it "dies" and the particle is removed. As for why they use so many files, I do not know, nor do I want to know. So much of Java is hardcoded (like the inventory) that it wouldn't surprise me if the particle system requires a specific set of files to work right.
"You're leaving a trail of *imperfect* firework particles", can't wait for the spark_4 to absorb spark_5 and spark_6 so spark_4 reaches it's *perfection* then run a game.
I'm guessing at some point spark 4 was intended to have every gray be the lighter shade, giving the impression of fading smoke particles
I'm just imagining Phoenix setting the tick rate low and scrutinizing every single particle and texture in the game now.

I know you are joking about it being absolutely terrible, but I like it. It isn’t incredibly perfect like a billion dollar company’s game, but rather an Indie game with a small team that still make “mistakes“. Not to mention asymmetry can be great and Minecraft has a lot of it, consistently inconsistent.

Fun fact I learned while making pixel art for the Minecraft grass block: The is exactly one slightly different shade of brown in the dirt part, looking more like a rusty brown. (For those curious, the pixel in question is in the 5th column, three from the bottom.) This will forever annoy me until my dying breaths.
