Hey everyone, thanks for watching, and we apologize for the audio glitch that happens a little bit into the video. We are aware of it, and it appears that there was a corruption between editing and uploading the video to RUclips. We advise that you watch the video through a speak opposed to headphones. Thanks again.
Oh man! I'm not sure what happened. Sorry about that everyone. The beginning seems fine, and then the audio just cuts out on one side. Not I must get to the bottom of this! 😓
My wife and I are trying to do the same right now with Agemonia. I could see this one too, and the streamlined nature of some of it is very appealing for that reason.
I really enjoyed this preview! And such great video quality (good colors, excellent closeups). You put a lot of work into it and it shows. Thank you for your opinions and presentation! 😊
Why not wait for it to come out to THEN buy it? It’s going to be delivered around 2027. How many more campaigns are gonna show up before this even arrives?
@shocknawe you are probably the voice of reason, but i already succumbed. I don't mind waiting, I have enough games to keep me busy until then. Hopefully they deliver on the potential I see in this game.
@@jperes889 I understand and respect your choice. It is your money and you do with as you may! I just wanted to say a few things (they might make you think differently on the upcoming Kickstarters we both know will tempt you): You know this one doesn't have a complete rulebook yet, right? The game's campaign is also incomplete. Awaken Realms constantly do this thing of coming up with a game as the campaign goes on. FOMO doesn't exist for board games. You WILL find someone selling this at whatever pledge once the game is out. I guarantee you that the price won't even be that far from buying in right now. And finally: regardless if this game ends up being amazing, it still won't be "it." It still won't be "the one." You'll still crave for another Kickstarter, another promise of "the one game" that will never come. No game will ever satiate that which you feel inside. --------- In any case, I hope you love this one! It does look better (idea-wise) than most of Awaken Realm's utter rubbish. Nemesis seems really fun and at some point, if the price ever lowers in me country, imma try it out. Cheers and all the best!
I loved the Lonewolf books as a kid. I still have almost all the books. The choose your own adventure part of this game looks similar to Lonewolf. Can’t wait!
Regarding storage between sessions, I believe the pledge tracker shows that the boxes are layered. It looks like you place some kind of cover over the recessed game boards, and that holds the tokens in place.
Thank you for letting us know that this is not a Dungeon Crawler/combat game that it is indeed more of an Choose your Adventure game and indeed very little combat and more of a reading choose your own adventure skill check game.
To be clear, I personally don't think that's a bad thing. But if you're looking for fight-fight-fight, this game is going to have a much greater variety of other gameplay. Is a lot of choose your own adventure style mechanisms not your cup of tea?
I'm of the opposite. I would most likely not buy the game if it were out now, but the thought of waiting and knowing I have something coming in the future gives me great joy. I have so many games to play already
@@meeple oh yes I went through the classic buy/back everything in my first year, but I was lucky... I got to pick up Earthborne Rangers, 7th Citadel & Continent and Sleeping Gods Distant Skies retail... now I have things like Agemonia and Spirit Fire backed... ten in total... and the wait is exhausting (dramatic) - I've stopped buying so all I have is the waiting. The player boards are pretty sizable, but the rest of the main board elements are pretty contained. Not a tiny footprint, but yes, far from the biggest.
Thankfully i watched your vid, i really like crawlers more than just rpg ones. But still metal coins i took since you can never have enough metal coins.
I like to stop by and hear what y’all have to say about a game. My first thought is that Awaken Realms has pulled ideas from Gloomhaven and implemented them into their gaming universe.
I think comparisons to games like Gloomhaven, Agemonia, etc. are natural, but this one truly feels like a BIG part of their intent was to make it feel VERY much like a full RPG experience in more of the D&D sense (for what it's worth). I would say if you enjoys those types of games, and can justify adding this one to your collection as well, this one might be worth looking into.
For example, if someone is asked to do a Strength check, you look at your STR stat. Let's say its a 3. That means you roll 3 D12s. And if the "difficulty" of the check was listed as a 4 for example (usually detailed in the check itself), then any die with a 4 or higher would be a "success". Natural 12s rolled count as two successes as well. Then you'd look at the check to see what your quantity of successes resulted in. And combat rolls felt a lot like checks, but just for either attack or defense.
I think I agree with you. It just seems better that the mechanisms a player takes part it are more fun when they represent what THEY are doing. Can you think of any other great examples of this in the last few years?
Thanks for the overview. Now I finally feel informed. I was curious about this game but I now see it looks like a nightmare. This game is absolutely not for me. Thanks for helping me seeing that
I have watched through some of the reviews and playthroughs, but one question still boggles my mind. It can be, that I missed something, but is there any dice result mitigation in this game? Maybe as the story later progresses.. Or we just roll dice upon dice, like in a usual RPG. I mean under dice result mitigation, like change/raise die value with x for y times when a keyword triggers; add dice values together; flip a die to the other side, etc. Other than: The usage of fate tokens - to reroll any number of any kind of dice Support from other characters with keywords - add more dice to the roll Divinum - when it is triggered - add a die to the roll Because till now it feels like a wonderfully written, tense 'role-playing gamebook', with audiobook, maps, character sheets, miniatures and a character creation hand-book, with the basic mechanics of a 'choose your own adventure book' game. Roll a bunch of dice when an event is triggered, and sometimes use your "Luck" or items to roll once more or roll with more dice. Success or fail, no chance/space to fine tune (at least a bit/or sometimes) your result, then take the next page.
I don't believe so. I think it will be possible to have multiple players use the same race - at least to some extent. I apologize if we said something that suggested otherwise.
@@meeple Nothing to apologize for, you guys did a terrific preview! It's written in the "Chose your race" section @1:27 , which really puzzled me. This seems an awesome game with deep RPG freedom and your choices bearing great relevance, and to me the concept conflicts with the idea of explaining to someone "there is this huge character creation, but you cannot make your character an elf, because Steve just did so, and Amanda picked a dwarf, so you are limited to only a human now".
Good review, convinced me I really should not back this. This is not "like an RPG", it's like current versions of D&D. After 35 years of fantasy board gaming and 30 years of TTRPGs, I have to say that TTRPGs advanced a lot beyond what AR made here.
@@winghong3 It's closed at moment (I had backed with min pledge amt but I know the PM will reopen I believe they said -- or hope -- sometime in December).
Big question for me is if I'm going this far towards an RPG, why not just play a proper (albeit light) RPG where I can actually roleplay, as opposed to my choices being limited by book choices. I suppose what I'm questioning is that there doesn't seem to be a lot in it in terms of overhead and rules compared to a real RPG, but a massive downside.

Awaken Realms is pretty up front about their use of AI to assist their artistic efforts, but I don't think it's simply AI stuff. On the campaign front, I agree. I AM optimistic about how this one breaks it up into more digestible mini-campaigns though (ala Stalker kind of).

This game also has TRUE SOLO. You can play as a single hero and not have to manage a whole party.
That I didn't know. I imagine many solo players will rejoice - In know Jeremy Howard typically loves the "true solo".
You'll still have to manage companions so I am not sure how simpler it will be.
