- 10 MILE RIDE. UPHILL. 2100 RPMS . 65 MPH. 10TH GEAR. OLD DETROIT 6-71 GIVING ALL ITS GOT . ONLY GOT PASSED A COUPLE OF TIMES. PEDAL TO THE METAL. SCREAMING JIMMY ALL THE WAY !
When I was a little kid, I live in a town at the base of a long hill. And at night I'd listen to the truck going up and coming down that hill. This reminds me of that time. :)
Talisman1957 Me too, that is why I restored it, thanks for looking !
rileydog362 I've watched all your GMC videos - love em all.
Thanks !
That is pure music. That and the sound of tires slapping on poured concrete roads like old 66 on a hot summer evening.
Love to hear old Detroit disels restored and running it defines what trucking is its music to my ears
when I was a kid, a friend of mine's dad had a mid-50's GMC cannonball with a 5 and 4 setup he pulled bulldozers with. he had a D6, D7 and a D8. he used every gear it had for the D8! I lived 3 miles from their farm and when he had it loaded you could hear him take off, and wind up every gear and downshift on the curvy county road. we rode with him several times to drop off one dozer then the next one on jobs. I remember the bell jingling when the air brakes were charging up after starting. this was 50+ years ago. great memories.
I also worked in the Defiance, Ohio GM foundry that poured General Motors Diesels blocks and heads until 1978, then the name was changed to Detroit Diesel. we poured them until they were sold to Roger Penske and they were spread out to Mexico, Brazil and Germany. the 2 cycles were our bread and butter castings for years! production ceased in 1993.
I could listen to Jimmy screaming this all day long!
In 1989 I was working as an automechanic at a factory. I was into firetrucks and got an offwr to buy a raffle ticket for 1970 Seagrave firetruck with an 8v71 and jake brake. Short story, I won, had to go to maryland to pick it up. The guys I worked with said I should take ear plugs. I said, " I can listen to a detroit all day long!". Ten miles down the road I was shoving tissue in my ears ! But I still have the truck and still love the sound of the jimmys!
I could listen to that all day long. :)
Talisman1957 truckers do!
@@thisguytrucksoldtrailer6875 , not many since a DD hasn't been put in trucks in years.
10-4 brother
The sound from long ago wae worth it!!! Cannonball!!!!!!
Good looking truck.
I LOVE the sound of a GM Detroit diesel 2 stroke normally aspirated with a roots scavenging blower! You can hear the whine of the Roots Blower! And they smell good too.

yes and that's what inspired me to become a truckdriver
Love the music of them running hard like that 👍
Love it. This reminds me of the movie "Duel" with Dennis Weaver.
Exactly ! Duel was filmed about 70 miles from here
@@rileydog362 Well there you go! Keep on screamin, Jimmy!
Nothing like the sound of a Detroit 6 71
Would love to see the looks on some of the other driver's faces when you come rollin' by in that "Ole Cannonball".
These trucks are built with pride the American way

Thank you
rileydog362 no problem
Make a video of you climbing the grapevine on the 5 freeway by Fort Tejon
Now I se In the Google. The correct form is splendid machine! I'm learning yet!
two strokes Rock
I own a 1973 Freightliner with a 318 Detroit if that damn thing wasn't leaking oil it was because they was no oil in. it
I mean explendid machine...
NICE !
What gear did you start in? I only counted 5 shifts....
Also, DAAAAAAAMN that's one holy mother of all hills!
It was flat where I started so I started in 6th gear which is actually the granny gear in high range so it does not lug the engine unless you start on ANY type of slight hill , then I start in 5th low and go to the high range. Thanks for watching ! The grade up that freeway is pretty steep but the truck will fly as long as the RPM's are up there.
rileydog362 were you pulling anything or just bobtail?
Bobtail all the time.
Looks like you're on CA-58 headed east--correct?
Yes
this is waht i ride in as a 14 year old
have you ever thought about selling your truck? It is beautiful congrats
Some day it will be sold as I get older . When the time comes I will post it on my channel. Right now we are finishing up putting a new axle on the front. I also added an air ride suspension from a 2004 Peterbilt on the rear with higher gearing so it will ride better and cruise at 70 mph . I am also putting the 5th wheel back on along with a lot of chrome on the rear. When finished with everything I will do a new video.
now do grapevine hill
How hard was the rebuild im thinking of doing one of these myself
Probably one of the easiest diesels to work on because it is all mechanical and parts are pretty easy and cheap to find compared to a Cummins or Cat .
about how many pounds?
Weighs 11,400
I'd love to add this truck to my collection, please email me if interested. Thank you
Know I know why truckers murder hitchhikers, that sound would drive me mad.
Would you sell this truck?
Not right now . Someday though and I will put a video up when the time comes . Thanks for asking !
