Just got started with js8call using a digirig and the ft-891 that I have had for a couple of years. When the money comes available in the budget, I will be getting an ic 705. I'm only running 15 watts atm and my 40m dipole is less than 13 ft in the air.
@OH8STN put a program on my old windows unit that checks it against one of the time servers while connected to the internet. I will eventually get one of those GPS units for the field.
pretty sure ima sell my 7300 and get another 705... i am at my offgrid cabin in the rainforest and i need to conserve power... 7300 uses 800mA+ RX while the 705 is around 220mA .... Four times less power needed!
@@OH8STN i’ve been looking at both the 705 and the X 6100 and well I haven’t decided which one to go with yet but it’ll be a little bit right now. I am trying to take care of a all band radio for my Aries team so that I’m able to do 2 m 70 cm NHF so that’s my next big purchase then I’m gonna start going looking at qrp radios
HI, nice! my G90 is just as good as my 705 on HF digi mode. Ok I got you Julian with the less cables and internal batt. But Julian, My 2110m is far more superior, just a bit more expensive than a 705! if I did not have a 2110m I would rather have a TX500 but of course I'm strictly talking about HF only...
Icom IC-705 is my main station transceiver. It’s an awesome piece of kit. I’ve never used that software but I will have a look at it. 73
Keep going, Julian….LOVE your content!!!

15w is enough. Just make sure your time is set as exactly as possible 👍
@@OH8STN I was having that problem Sunday evening. It was about 8 seconds off.
100ma-300ma is good. Use a GPS or sync yo windows/Linux time server (if on grid).

705 Rox! Best data mode radio in the world!

That rocks! With being a tech and needing to get a couple more radios before I go to a qrp radio, it is challenge for me to get the 705
Understood. The next best option is the x6100 from Xiegu
