Excellent tutorial! I just got my Mister Pi, and this helped smooth out the process! I could have pieced it together, but there would have been more to the learning curve, and this really made that easier! Can't wait to dig into it, but thanks to the video, I am up, running, and ready to roll.
This is by far the best general purpose MiSter setup tutorial I have ever seen, thanks! Also thank you for providing an alternative board in a kit at a reasonable price. FPGA gaming needs more people like you Taki.
My MisterPi kit arrived today (the mega pack) & I've assembled it as per the video, downloaded the image, installed it on a card & downloaded some DOS games to test. Worked perfectly the first time! I even got the wifi working without knowing how to do it! I'm absolutely thrilled to understand more about it all & am copying over some ROMs to see how they go. Great work Taki & team - just brilliant!
I pulled over on the side of the interstate to get my order in this morning, super excited for this kit, to be getting a deal, and to be supporting Taki's business endeavor. 🎉🎉
I found out about this today and at first I had questions. Then I saw this video and noticed the Cyclone V chip and I instantly understood. This is a great contribution to the MiSTer community and hopefully the price point will bring more people into it. The DE10 board has been ratcheting up steadily, and quite frankly if mine were to break today, this would probably be my choice rather than another DE10.
@@livinlicious exactly, DE10 prices have been going nowhere but up recently and some places are charging ridiculous markups on top of that. 160 for the Cyclone board alone would be a bargain, but this is a phenomenal deal.
That feels redundant (of course, needing to save after turning on autosave is familiar to some retro gamers), but you'd be surprised at how foolish people can be...
This is so exciting! Even though I already have a MiSTer and it works great, I sometimes worry about if something happened to it or it died on me one day. It’s reassuring to see DE-10 Nano alternatives coming out at more affordable prices. Let’s hope there are no major supply issues and that everyone who wants a MiSTer can get one. Great job!
I was lucky enough to get one of the first batches of the MegaPack. Waiting anxiously. Been wanting to build one of these for a while. Now I just need to get reading and watching videos on setup etc. Thanks again for this.
Looking good! I jumped in and bought a MiSTer at the beginning of the year and spent a small fortune. Now that your products have an impending release, I'll be able to buy one without batting an eye. Great tutorial!
Great to see this finally become a reality. A reasonably priced mister or original priced mister is incredible to see again. Excited for the handheld version that will eventually come out.
Super hyped Taki. Thanks for making a complete beginner video to help us noobs get it spun up, while taking the time to show how it integrates with others existing boards. That's a very classy way to approach selling a product.
Taki, you rock - hope the launch of these boards doesn't get sucked up by the scalpers and resold for higher amounts. This world is horrible for this sort of thing.
Hopefully that won't be a problem as if the price goes too high it will put it in the price range of the Terrasic board. Taki also said it would be one per customer.
Hopefully supply is steady enough to make scalping pointless. Scalping only exists if demand outstrips supply. Remove that and you have no scalping market. More so buyers have to resist buying from scalpers. If they have no buyers, they have no market.
Wonderful video and product! For those like me who are new to MiSTer, one tip that I would add is that the MicroSD slot (which might initially be hard to find) is under the MiSTer board.
It's not just misleading, it's downright confusing and is bad marketing. Not only does it make it seem like a Raspberry Pi is somehow involved, but when you google "Mister Pi", you get results for the m32pi, which is a completely unrelated product. All griping aside, I am very grateful to Taki for providing a solid, affordable way to make a Mister.
So excited to give this a try! I see you're busy working at creating new stock. Really hope I can jump on it and order it as soon as available. I like your style you know what's up.
I can't wait to see people build a handheld shell for this thing. I'll probably buy the mega bundle, considering how cheap it is. I've wanted an FPGA solution for some time, but the price has always held me back. Absolutely perfect product for a demographic that has shown to be large enough to buy into it.
Thanks dude! I bought the full system from your website today. 😊 And honestly, I'm so happy that it can do the Commodore PET and VIC-20, my childhood computers. (Yes I'm very old...) I'll look into the consoles too. They seem cool to play. 😁
Great video, very thorough. I've had my analogue I/O board based MISTer with 128 RAM and I want to get a second unit. This version looks like a good investment.
Watching someone unplug a device, to power it off, always reminds me that connectors have a limited lifespan. The switch on a power cord (shown near the start) is one solution to this. A switch on the product would also be nice - but with 2 power connectors on the FPGA board, and a third on the top board, placing a switch would be tricky. Easier to look for a power supply with a switch instead.
Had the page up all day. Waiting for checkout then got sold out message after 4 mins. Hopefully get in on next sale. I really hope they didnt get grabbed by scalpers. I know it was limited to one but you know how crafty they can be. Its awesome that your making this so affordable.(update) Got one of the full kits in the 2nd sale! Thanks!
Wait... i might have missed something but is this affiliated with like raspberry pi? or is it just called that because of the size and shape? also out of curiosity, what was the inspiration for this product? just to get more people into fpga dev? Or is this meant primarily just to be a smaller option for diy handheld retro emulation?
I managed to snap up one of the Turbo Packs from the 2nd batch. Is the wireless adapter included, or was that a 1st batch exclusive? It doesn't look like it was part of the contents. Excited either way!
@@erickm1975 I believe Taki was including a special free component part exclusive to each of the three batches. 1st batch was the wireless dongle, 2nd the Snac shifter & snes snac adapter, 3rd batch will be the NFC Reader and 4x exclusive cards. So I believe 2nd & 3rd batch buyers will have to buy a wirless dongle separately. Honestly the snac package imo is the most useful and value.
