X not working for me. Where will you sell?
Would be great to see updates on a public medium that doesnt require registration
@@martijn8538 yes man, I'm not sign in to X.
I've wanted a FPGA forever but they're hard to find and expensive. I'll be watching this project pretty closely. Amazing work!
Used to be 90 USD a few years ago ... You don't have an extra 90 USD as an adult? Maybe you should rethink your life decisions or find a new hobby.
@@DrNoBrazil forever is often exaggerated by most and maybe they didn't come around when it was $90. Next time be less of a jerk.
@@DrNoBrazil Just because you have the money, that doesnt mean you think its worth spending. I'm sure there were a lot of things you'd buy if they were cheap. And where that threshold lies is very individual. Bringing the price down is great for everyone
I came to this video with no clue what this is. @@DrNoBrazil
@@DrNoBrazil "A few years ago." Ok, so all it takes is a time machine to get that deal. Why didn't I think of that?
I'm so excited to see this. I've been looking into the MisterFPGA project recently, and like many others the cost was holding me back. The possibility of getting this in a HANDHELD, at a reasonable price, with the performance benefits of FPGA, the dedication of this community, in a no-nonsense (no android or windows) portable? I'm sold. All it has to do is work and I'll buy one of every model you produce Taki. My Retroid Pockets and Anbernics will go in a drawer.
Portable FPGA seem fun 😂
Perhaps in Pi zero form factor with enough logic cells and low power consumption.
Terasic continues to charge the same covid price to maximize profits. A MiSTer FPGA clone at 2017 student prices would be a tremendous gift for the community. Thank you
Far be it from me to shill for a tech company, since it's pretty well known a lot of them have no excuse and are charging more because they can.
That said, I have some doubts that the price of the DE10nano (in specific) is entirely up to them. Their suppliers are probably dicking them over a bit too. Probably. Few to none of us know for sure. Could also be a bit of column A, a bit of column B.
But I completely agree that the low price is pretty compelling.
If people are willing to pay, why wouldn't they charge more? This isn't life saving medication, it's a totally unnecessary ultra niche product. You can perfectly emulate all these systems and more, no one _needs_ a mister, no one is being deprived of _anything_
Not to mention scalpers drying up supply and then upselling
I literally bought a DE-10 Nano a week ago. That being said, im glad more people will be able to get into this project soon!
We Brazilians are very excited for the arrival of this low-cost Mister FPGA. I can guarantee that you will sell a lot here in Brazil. 😊
estou no meio kkkkk
@@PoraodoArcade isso aí. Kkkkkkkk
250 million people waiting for this. xD
Carioca!
Indeed
Looks great and makes the project more accessible again. Well Done
I am strongly wishing you guys success in this endeavor! This is one of the best news I've heard for retrogaming in quite some time!
Looks very promising so far. Thanks for getting a preview video up so quick!
This is awesome. I took the plunge into the world of MiSTer a while back and it is pretty fantastic but if it can be made more accessible that is only a good thing. Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Man, I was always considering getting a MiSTer together to replace my Wii as my retro console, but the price was a bit much. And then, just days after i finally get a CRT TV after a few years of looking, I see this. Good thing I've waited so long! Super excited to see how this project goes, especially any consolized version of this.
A Wii is a MUCH better option. That should be obvious.
@@Great-Documentariesis it? Like for SNES games, is the Wii pretty good at keeping input lag low?
Años buscando un crt ? 🤔
Thank you for the update and the transparency to us, the potential buyers. I really love this, and will pick up a few in the future!
Reducing the entry-level barrier for FPGA gaming wow Taki this would be a game changer. I'm wishing blessings upon blessing for this project to succeed. Taki for President everyone 😁
Omg. I've been wanting a Mister for a long time. I can't wait to order. Thanks Taki for making this happen.
This is going to sell out fast, it's amazing they got the price to to $100 dollers looks fantasic. a handheld with full mister capabilities would be a game changer.
That remains to be seen. Third party sellers, scalpers and scammers are going to make sure this is nowhere near 99 bucks. But... one can hope.
I mean, the real DE-10 was $75 when the MISTER project started and I honestly don't believe the price hikes have been entirely due to manufacturing costs.
@@vresi Don't worry,Gyna got this under control to keep the prices down.
@@vresi well a replacement for the DE10 Nano that stays at $100 has plenty of value to people with other interests. Gotta think, Terasic didn't design the de10 for video games. I designed PCBs for machine control that used a DE10 before Mister was even started.
I will buy two more lol
Already own a MiSTer but I'm glad that a DE-10 Nano alternative is in the works so others can also get one!
It's great to see another option to the original DE-10 Nano in the works! Good stuff.
Very interesting! Looking forward to a consolized version
Super excited about this! Can’t wait to order this as I’ve not been able to get a MiSTer yet. Analogue Pocket with it dock has lessened the pain of not having one.
Very excited for this. I have been wanting to build misters for my friends and family but the de-10 is just too costly now. I currently own two full setups but I plan on buying several of these boards and ram modules. Beyond excited for fpga handheld market. Thanks Taki!!
Great work here, I’m so glad to here that the MiSTer project will now become way more affordable for others to get into the ecosystem! Thank you!
Holy smokes. This is amazing! Thank you. I'll 100% be picking up one of these up!
This is incredible news! I've been sitting on the sidelines watching the prices go up for a while, so this will definitely be something to keep my eyes out for!
very interested in what youre going to make with this technology.
i think with your input and attention to the finer details with emulation and particularly handhelds, the future is looking very good for FPGA gaming
💪❤
This is amazing news and I'm stoked to watch the progress. It will be great if it works with existing accessories but I totally understand if it just kind of becomes its own thing for affordability and improvements. Keep up the great work! Also, HANDHELD?!?!? YES!
Thank you for doing this. I've been following this project for a while as well, and like you, I've only seen it get more and more expensive. When these come out for retail, I am definitely going to pick them up. You just got a new subscriber.
I'll wait for this, can't wait for it to drop, thank you for providing regular people a chance to experience fpga gaming with an affordable price.
This is absolutely awesome. I've been wanting to grab one since they were first out but could never afford it but I will certainly be looking to grab one when they're available.
that's amazing --- a $115 Mister FPGA is a lot more exciting than a $250 to $300+ kit
I'm so excited for the MiSTer value menu! :D (As are many of my friends who want MiSTer but couldn't justify the price)
I hope shipping these won't cost too much, usually Europe gets left behind with these kinds of niche projects.
This is great! I've been an incredibly satisfied MiSTer owner for a few years now but have seen people repeatedly turn to worse options due to price creep and stock issues. With something like this more accessible to the masses, it'll be easier and cheaper to source replacements/backup units, accessory/add-on creators will see more business, FPGA competitors preying on the enthusiast market will get a reality slap, and audiences in general might start pushing for higher emulation and input latency standards from mainstream gaming entities.
On the plus side, it's shown me I can survive with a "lowly" RPi4 build, that does Dreamcast and below relatively competently; I've had lots of experience with MiSTER AND RPi4, and they're both very good, it's just really hard to get over the build cost today. This though... $115 out the door with an active fan and you're ready to roll? Too good to be true
This is really amazing. Thank you so much for doing this. I hope that the ports can be further optimized. SDRAM integration would be a great thing for V2; even it the price was up from $99. But a $15 ram is a godsend!
way to go! This is amazing, and pretty excited for the future with this board!
Wow, amazing! I can't wait for the final product 😊
hey TAKI, please make a version with a better FPGA. 110K Logic Elements was not enough to implement a proper ao486 core for example, they had to remove the floating point unit...It's not fast enough for various DOS games. 110K LE is barely enough to make an accurate Saturn, Sergiy had to gimp a bunch of parts of the implementation in his Saturn core. I've been waiting forever for the community to finally move past the 110K LE. Come on TAKI, you can be the one who leads us to the promised land and moves us out of the 110K LE era. It's been 8 years of 110K. Something's gotta give, we can't go like this forever. What if you could make "BASIC" version for $99 that's compatible with old cores, and a "SUPER" version for $199 that opens up the possibility for some new cores?
Maybe, move out of Intel Altera into AMD Xilinx, like XC7A200T for 200k LEs.
I’m sure Terasic just loves this. Another example of China copying Taiwan’s IP.
The Cyclone V SE SoC family tops out at 110k LEs, so there's no easy way to get more logic space. Transitioning to something like the Xilinx Zynq series is possible, but would require a huge amount of work on the Mister code base. To get any headroom to grow Mister really needs to be re-architected to lose the dependency on the integrated hard ARM core, but that's a vast job that nobody seems much interested in doing.
@@drramtop1576they don’t use a lot of IP cores for most designs. Xilinx would be much faster and increase the amount of systems able to be cloned to soft core.
Replay 2 for that
Awesome, great work! So looking forward to it.
Wow! So excited to hear you are a co owner of a company that will sell these (handhelds too) 🎉
Very impressive performance but we’re all waiting for that controller Taki! Looks like something Retroid would design for their RP2 line!
I am so glad you are doing this! Untill now I had no reason to buy an FPGA because of the high price cost, I already have most of the consoles I'd like to and a very nice CRT to go with them. This is gonna be my first FPGA!
Super excited for this and the consoles that will come from it.
This is great news ! FPGA is currently very much an elite system considering the price of the mister or analogue products. Very surprised that you are one of the co founder of this, this sound good coming from someone with so much attention for details. Personnaly, I can't wait for the console version !!!
I have been interested in FPGA based computing for years now but honestly just could not justify the price. So this is very interesting. Unlike most, I am not as interested in the game consoles and am hoping to use FPGA to explore many older home computer systems without the cost of purchasing and maintaining actual vintage hardware (beyond what I already have😂). Looking forward to this project being available!
Subscribed and watching closely! I love collecting retro systems and games, but this will be a nice all in one option when you just wanna jump quickly into something on a modern display!
Just having Saga on the background, brings tears to my eyes.
I have the mister saved on my wishlist for aliexpress and the price of the kit jumped from 600 to almost 900.. its crazy..
I will definitely try to grab this one..
Very cool. Lookin forward to these future products. Must buy
Great video as always. I've wanted to get into the world of the MISTer, but as was pointed out in the video, the price is a deterrent. I look forward to more updates on this low cost alternative. 👍👍
very excited about this project. I hope you make a portable console, a desktop console and also some dock to connect to CRT televisions.
Holy crap, I was anticipating there were going to be major compromises to knock the price down that much lower but this seems like the full thing! I feel much less bad for waiting out on the Mister now!
Thank you so much for taking the initiative! I'm already an owner of a DE 10 nano, but I will definitely buy another one from you guys in order to support you! 🎉💪
Outstanding! I hope your production facility will be able to keep up with demand, which I am sure will be high.
Thank you. I can't wait to get like 4 of these, one for every room in the house. 😂 and also so I can catch up with my friends who are already running Mister in thier arcade cabinets!!
God speed sir!!
I remember the $125 days of the DE10. I think I got mine around 2018/2019. Also…this is a game changer!
Same. Can't believe I've had it for over 5 years.
That is really awesome, hope this project goes very well.
At this price and if it's 1:1 to the nano mb in term of performance for mister, it's a big win for the community!
I was curious about the Ram. I'm glad you cloned the version 3.0. If everything works out, this could be really cool.
I'm assuming the N64 "Turbo" core overclocks the RAM, but to what Mhz? I want to know if this clone RAM will do it, and hold up?
I have been hesitating to tinker with the MiSTer for several years now, but this would make me pull the trigger. I really hope it will be possible to get one shipped to Europe. In any case, amazing development :)
Honestly I also can't wait for a hand-held based on the same technology - in the landscape format. I love my Analog Pocket, but the typical handheld layout would be SWEEEET.
I knew I should've pre-ordered one of those controllers. Looks great, going w/the industrial design.
Some kind of case would be awesome as well. Thanks for your work.
This is amazing, i will finally be able to recommend Mister to my friends again
Great price improvement, be interested to see what the catch is though (surely there must be one). The fact we are seeing it on a small screen and not a capture makes me wonder why.
Negatives out of the way, good to see the USB socket changes, the setup on the official de10 is just silly.
I already own two original setups, but I'm definitely grabbing a full set of the new board. Thanks for doing this, hopefully it will grow the community a lot now there will be a dedicated board. Wouldn't mind if the new board will be called MiSTer. 💪 Thanks for all the effort.
I would like to see someone playing with an iCE40 based board for the role too (more open tool chain, pretty cheap chips), but this is definitely the more important project.
This is a great start! I would get this and use my other two DE10s for other uses.
Looks great and would be nice to go to the lower price point that the Terasic board once was. If you guys make a portable console around it, it would be nice if you are able to incorporate a dock with analog out + SNAC support as that will give it the edge over something like the Analogue Pocket being able to play both handheld/HDMI as well as on CRT with original controllers/lightguns.
Despite owning an Analogue Pocket, I was never interested in getting a MiSTer tbh but damn, now I want this one!
I am so excited about this. I've wanted to get into the MiSTER project, but it's been way too expensive
I'm really interested in the portable console form factor of this, but this is amazing!
2019 I bought the official board from Amazon for $130.00 . This is pretty exciting to see $99!
Really hope there is another release soon. They sell out so quickly. Just keep em coming, I say.
I already have a DE10 Nano, but will defo buy one of these just to support the project!!. I do have one of those increasingly popular RetroCastle IO boards, so if you want me to test for compatibility then I'm more than happy to assist and put a video up on my Channel to help spread the word!!
If you're going to be making a FPGA Mister Handheld in the future please give it the biggest 1:1 or 4:3 screen you can get your hands on. Seriously the bigger the better.
Considering I own a couple De10 nanos, I'm more excited about the potential of enhanced clones. I wouldn't mind such a clone that is the same price as the De10 nano is today, but has a significant upgrade to the on-board ram and the FPGA-size, while remaining compatible to the FPGA architecture of the MiSTer project as we know it.
Great work and great news. Also was interested in the mister project and found it always too pricy as a hobby.
This has the potential to be a very, very big deal not just because it's obviously always great to save some money when making a purchase, but even more than that because a cheaper MiSTer means that significantly more people than ever before will be able to get their hands on one, and a project like the MiSTer stands to benefit greatly overall from growth of the user base. More people using and experimenting with the MiSTer means more people working on cores, either refining existing ones or writing new ones, potentially more people working on new hardware addons, peripherals, and modifications, really just more people working to improve the device overall. I know that I, for one, simply can not work a MiSTer into the budget right now at the current market price, though I desperately want one, but if the cost could be brought down as low as I'm hoping it could be with this new FPGA board it would suddenly be well within the realm of possibility for me to finally get ahold of one.
This looks great, I'll finally be able to get into MiSTer
How can we support this project? Gaming is just a cherry on the top of the laundry list of uses I can find for a hardware like this at this price point.
for some context:
As a CS/EE guy who also loves retro games this is way more than just an amazing value for money (for all EEs that had the misfortune of having to purchase an FPGA for their ASIC projects), but also FPGAs are the most authentic experience you can have at trying out retro games with the exception of the actual console it came out for and a time machine to go back to when the chip was manufactured. (chips degrade over time due to a wide range of reasons. Anything from power fluctuations, being exposed to radiation or even absorbing humidity. Specially on time scale of decades.)
I’ve wanted a mister for years but like you said I too held off so long that the price became too high to afford. So needless to say I’m very very interested in this board!
Great work, Taki! Loving this to the moon and back! Is there a pre-order link active on this? I am so excited!!!
I’d probably buy one of these. I’ve held off Mister because it’s pretty costly and I’m pretty happy with emulation. But if I could get a complete Mister setup for under $150 or so I’d probably go for it.
The fact that it ran GoldenEye so well is unbelievable.
This is incredible, i've been hoping there would misterFPGA clone for so long. Hope there would be no legal issue with terasic in the future though.
This is way more exciting than that overpriced Mars project.
I just want late gen Midway and Williams stuff and that's likely not going to come to the mister project unless someone else does it. So MARS is inevitable if you want that.
You laugh now, but when MARS finally launches in 2304 it'll definitely be one of the FPGA systems of all time.
@@billyelliotx lmao MARS is a hoax
@@billyelliotx Replay2, or some other FPGA project will exist in the future, surely.
If you don't want to go above the current limit (N64 hit the ceiling recently) or don't want or don't need Mike Chi's output scaling you will be fine with Mister of course.
I'll finally nostalgia play all that Amiga 500 games when this comes out
6:15 this unlocked a core memory :O
Looking forward to see this on online stores.
Just checking in on this project
I am looking forward to seeing this running on a CRT. I hope this board will be made in large quantities and not be available only via preorder like Analogue...
I bet it will probably be backed up on initial orders, but if the units keep selling then the company doesn't have the same incentive as analogue does to not keep producing them. scarcity is part of analogue's marketing strategy (intentionally or not).
Hopefully the handheld will have the same capacity, for compatibility, as a regular Mister FPGA. Also, A horizontal handheld would be nice to have a more ergonomic grip on it and also more inputs for greater compatibility with laster gen console cores and some arcade cores (spinner, trackball, etc.) :D
Tell me more about the controller.

Awesome! Now, finally I might be able to get a MiSTer.
This sounds amazing. I can't wait to make more affordable #MiSTerFPGA builds for people again!
TBH the most exciting part of the whole video was the disclaimer at the end. My sister and her spouse may be seeing a mister in their future :D
a handheld version of this would get my money instantly
I want. ty for reporting on this, never even knew it was being worked on.
Will definitely be keeping my eye on this as a more affordable route thank you. Your discussion of consoles being a future option, is this eyeing up the Analogue market by any chance? I can't imagine what their N64 clone is going to cost for example, so alternatives that are just as capable but more reasonably priced would be 100% appreciated with updated USB-C and HDMI features.
The DE10-Nano was only as cheap as it was because it was subsidized by Intel after they purchased Altera for education and such, obviously it looks like that deal ran out some time ago. Really awesome that you managed a lower cost clone as these are very useful for things that have nothing to do with Mister, the DE10-Nano was obviously not designed for game consoles
