Funny how it takes an orchestra and a choir to get the sound made by 4 blokes.
    Legendary band.

That performance never fails to move me. It certainly moved Robert Plant, who was fighting back tears. His performance of the song can't be bettered but Ann Wilson's is surely the closest we'll ever get. The way she belted out 'to be a rock, and not to roll' at the end was pretty special. Nancy played superbly too, certainly some stardust in that gene-pool. And the band, the choir, Bonzo's son on the drums.. I agree the Kennedy Centre honours have some stellar performances but there can't be many to match that, though Aretha Franklin's magnificent effort at the tribute to Carole King goes close...

For those of us that grew up with Stairway To Heaven before Heart became popular in the mid 70's we know that Ann and Nancy were heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. They did a great version of Zeppelins Rock N Roll on one of there early albums.
This version while different with the orchestra and the choir is so so good. Seeing the effect it has in Page, Plant and Jones gets to a lot of us, and having Jason Bonham on the drums just makes this so special.
I've seen other younger reactors that were not around in the 70's really get the passion and the influence of this performance shows that music transcends generations.

They were all wearing the derby hats as a tribute to John Bonham who was known for wearing them, and btw that's Jason Bonham his son on John's drum set.

Thankyou Kimmy for that request. The performance was not only powerful but also very moving having Jason Bonham on drums. Ann's vocals were gorgeous, and the choir and orchestra just hit it out of the ballpark.

It's now quite a few generations of musicians who, at some point super early in their journey towards competency, have tapped out or plucked out the Stairway to Heaven notes. Absolutely legendary song.
The full Kennedy Center Honors show for Billy Joel is also really special.

Again Kimmy..wow what a pick ..Ty for your awesome taste dear.
This too me is one of the greatest covers ever..Heart gave it their all and add in the best backing musicians singers string orchestra and a choir it is brilliant. To take on this song in front of the surviving legends who wrote and performed it takes guts and they did it total justice this is an epic performance..you can see the impact on Robert Plants face, amazement at this arrangement. Throw in that John Bonham's son Jason is playing drums on his dads drum kit..the magic of this video will last forever and the numbers who view it will only grow.
The bit that always gets me (and I have seen this video a lot) is at the end as Jason looks up to the heavens in sadness that his dad isn't there to see this performance and receive this tribute.
    Keep Safe Keep Strong

I’m so impressed by Jason Bonham. ❤ For a boy to lose his dad at such a young age, and under such circumstances, he really made a success out of his life. I guess he had three dads to take him under their wings, certainly at least one in Robert Plant. You can see and feel the love between them. RIP John. ❤💔❤️

I’ve just started a comment and it says “describe the vibe” in the comment box 😂 hmm.. so the vibe.. is great.. nostalgic, emotional (Jason Bonham on drums 😢), Ann Wilson’s powerhouse vocals, so great to see the band watching on, Robert Plant has always been on my idol list! Always nice to see the Americans paying homage to a British band.
