Fixing Old School Lester BMX Mag wheels after 15 years!

  • Fifteen plus years ago a set of Lester coaster brake BMX wheels were brought it to be rebuilt. It was missing the internals of the rear wheel. At the time there was very little on the internet about what parts were used to build the Lester wheels. Every time I got some old coaster wheel in to be replaced I would take out the parts and try to install the parts onto the Lester wheel. I probably tried the same internals more then once over the years. The customer(Anthony) after a year just said to keep the wheels. After working at the same shop for eleven years I left and took the wheels with me. I did not give up. It took awhile but we finally got it.

Same wheels, same problem… your video was so helpful, I was able to order a hub from this exact vendor and I know just what to expect

My old Lesters same as yours had a Bendix 76 coaster hub fitted 👍

Same. I just checked my wheels which are the same as the ones in the video and the brake arm also says ‘Bendix 76’.

Holy crap, it's Ike's brother! Wow, small world man.. It's cool to see you're into old bicycles. 😎
I have 1 front Lester mag.. I'd love to find a rear, but they're metal, so I doubt I'd put them onto any of my old bmx freestyle bikes. Lol. Still cool nonetheless. 🍻

Yes. I knew he said a long time ago not to worry and that I could do what ever I wanted to with it. I still wanted to fix it and give him the option if he still wanted it.

Do you sell the parts for it?

The only parts you can get for it today are bearings, axles and maybe cones.

My knowledge won't help you either ,we don't really have many coaster brake bikes here (we call them peddlebacks here ) .those Lester mags look and sound quite heavy for BMX

These wheels are so heavy. I don't know how we rode them.

I bought a set for the novelty. Theyre fun to play with but damn theyre heavy.
