    Tomorrow (Yom Kippur) is also my mother's birthday who just passed away one month ago on 9/23/2023. This would have been her 87th birthday. She told me once long ago "I never would have wanted to be anything else but Jewish. I'm so glad I was born a Jew."
    Happy birthday mama. I will see you again one day.

    How G-d has been good to us... We need more than 26 hours! We are in Tel Aviv. It is very moving, religious and non religious people fast! I was asking around what to expect today and I kept getting the same answer: "It is the holiest of the holiest! Talk directly to G-d! " And this, coming from people who are 100% secular! Indeed, we are only one mitzvah away from Moshiach. Let's have a sweet, beautiful, loving and warm Yom Kippur. May our bellies be full with trust and calm acceptance in HaShem. Thank you, dear Rav. For all in recovery, my dear husband and I are in recovery, keep the faith, and keep it in the day, may we be inscribed in the book of happy sobriety.

    4:53 It is one way of showing awe inspiring respect for the One for whom Life and Death are merely a part of His Speech. It is a bit awkward, but to me it sounds like Parents and Children, during discipline time, in a well ordered house, full of Love and securely built on a Rock, of clearly spelled out expectations and full disclosure of possible consequences. Sure enough. I too, beg for my Life, but only to Him.

    Rabbi, Thank you for this. I'm not exactly what most people would call Jewish (maybe at heart), my family of origin and I identify as Judeo-Christian, and I am an LDS convert. For months I have been looking forward to Yom Kippur this year, I guess I just want to be forgiven, to renew my covenants. I stayed up late working Saturday night and missed the Sacrament meeting today and feel horrible about it. I know my chair was one glaringly empty - and on such a precious day. This message has brought me some solace and insight, and as I listened, I prayerfully paused and journaled my gratitude, my shortcomings, and my vow to do better in specific areas. Thank you

      If a Gentile observes any of the Jewish commandments from the Torah as a religious obligation (even if he does so from a desire to receive a spiritual reward), this is forbidden based on the prohibition of adding a commandment, and there is no spiritual reward to be derived from this.

    Yom Kippur means day of "tar." It's the anniversary of the day a meteorite destroyed the Jordan Valley, which used to be extremely fertile before it was destroyed in 1713 BC.
    Yom Kippur is the day of judgment. Fire and brimstone, doom and gloom, asphalt swept up into the air, lit on fire, and rained down on everything and everyone.
    Happy holy day.

    • @Shir_Hadash
      @Shir_Hadash 7 месяцев назад

      Paula, you don't know Hebrew. כָּפַר means "tar" (see Genesis 6:14). The concept of "atonement" (an English word invented by Wycliffe) is derivative. What made the natural disaster of 1713 BC so devastating was the use of bitumen as a building material and all the dry autumnal palm leaves everywhere. Everything lit on fire! It's been 3034 years since the cataclysm and the Jordan Valley has never recovered!
      The idea of כָּפַר (see Exodus 29:36) is one of cleaning the sticky, flammable petroleum based substance off of yourself. It's an idea of cleansing. The English term of "at one ment" is wrong. It suggests something like a Buddhist meditation exercise: becoming one with the universe. The Hebrew concept is about getting off your butt and cleaning the world up before another meteorite comes from the sky and lights the world on fire: "We need to pitch in together and clean this shit up immediately without delay": כָּפַר means "tar."

    • @paulawallace8784
      @paulawallace8784 7 месяцев назад

      @Shir_Hadash What you wrote in Hebrew means "ransom", Scripture is written in Hebrew not English and the concept of Atonement is found throughout it all.

    I made a "deal" with G-d to create a Central Bank Digital Currency that essentially acts as an organized boycott and a Union at the same time a long time ago. The idea was basically that in order to access the massive consuming power of the masses businesses would have to agree to stipulations that are the equivalent of a European welfare state. I pledged to Hashem that I would save the profits that would acrue to me and my heirs would one day give this bank to the Mashiach (I'm not Messianic) when he arrived. I never did what I was supposed to do since the opportunity never presented itself, but I still fear Hashem's righteous anger. Will I be able to find forgiveness?
    On a lighter note instead of doing that I'm starting a small business in a totally different industry. If I've done nothing wrong I'll grow the business until I can pay software developers to develop that bank.

      God gives reward and punishment as He sees fit. Also, a challenge refines a person and his faith, and humbles the heart, and thereby brings a person closer to God. Therefore, in truth, a test is a great benefit for a person.@@johnmcghee6712

    Rabbi Friedman, what you are saying is ridiculous. You are saying we are "guaranteed" life for another year, and by so doing, you are removing a sense of yirah from viewers. A couple of years ago, a fine woman, a mother of a colleague of mine was walking home from shul after Yom Kippur, and was hit by a car and killed. You don't know the cheshbonos of Hashem, therefore it is necessary to ask that it should be Hashem's will that we merit another year of life.

      A sad story indeed but it reminds us that we live in a world where all humans have free will. Sadly, we can all become victims of someone else’s bad choices having an effect on us for better or worse. Sometimes we can mitigate the consequences of someone’s else bad choice by being more aware and sometimes for reasons known only to God, we cannot.

      Come now, you who say "Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town and spend a year there and do businesss and make a profit." Yet you do not even have knowledge of what tomorrow may bring. What is your life? Are you not a mist appearing a short time, then indeed disappearing? You ought to say instead, "If the Lord is willing (Im yirtzeh Hashem), then we will live and we will do this or that." James 4:13-15
      Boast not of tomorrow, for you know not what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1

    I have a question I stood before God confessed, all my sins I layed my crown at His feet He gave me a new name and wrote it in the book of life He made me a soldier in His army of angels. Technically, I am an angel in the flesh my name is Rui, I blew my shofar on Yom Kippur. Hopefully it was a blessing and I did not break another seal in the book of revelation. What do you think?
