Hi all,.. fantastic find !!!.. I know why they didn't use your interview... It was your Lilly white legs that did it... But that was a shame Si , but as you said they may use use it another time...
At 05:30 I think it might be the handle of a cook's copper balloon whisk. All those strands open up to whisk egg whites ect. It looks like it's broken at the point of maximum stress as you whisk. The bulbous end is to protect the palm of your hand.
The fact you found the bust whilst mud larking is a much better story than “My dad bought it years ago don’t know when or where” like so many other Roadshow items they feature.
I am struck how many Brits on Antiques Road Show say their distant relative was a ship’s captain. I know England was a incredible ocean going country but no one seems to have been a mere sailor.
Congratulations on the Queen Victoria bust! I can’t get over it. So cool to see you at the Antiques Roadshow, as well. With the gold find, you had a very good day, didn’t you? So happy for you.
It's amazing that the Queen Victoria bust lay in the Thames all that time without anyone noticing since it's not really very small. I'm glad you found it! The dark ends of the links if the bracelet could be where the links were soldered and the solder hasn't fared as well in the mud as the parts that are all 9 ct.
I grew up in a place called Battersea which is right on the river Thames, as kiddies me & my buddies would often fish for eel's and scavenge the foreshore, found many items including an old military pistol, Army CS canister and a incredibly well preserved newspaper from 1934..👌👍
Having followed you and your fellow mudlarkers for years, I'm just astounded that no one has stumbled across Queen Victoria before this. Congratulations. Hope you two roommates get along.
A MAMMOTH TOOTH 🦣 🦷, a completely whole ROMAN POT &a QUEEN VICTORIA BUST plus all the coins 🪙 &musket balls etc! Si you really are such an awesome Mudlarker!!😎 Thanks for the MANY hours of enjoyment me and my Hubby have watching you and your friends especially Nicola! God bless and many thanks from 😁😁❤ Nashville Tennessee
At 11:04 in your vid, the bit of ceramic is Chinese and looks to be pre-1912 (Qing Dynasty) as the Chinese characters are written right to left. Litterally: Gold, Jade, Full, Hall. “May your great hall be filled with treasure.” How appropriate. Probably the base of a good luck deity figurine like “god of wealth, etc…”
It took me several minutes of scrolling through comments to finally find yours helping Si with the Chinese writing. Thank you for answering him and teaching me as well 😃
I was scratching my head trying to remember the characters from my Mandarin degree 25 years ago. I didn’t see the dot on the Jade character so I thought it was “wang” but of course it was “Yu” lucky I didn’t post a translation, I’d have never lived down the shame!
Wow, what an amazing lark! Glad you stuck around to find the Queen. I'd have been off like a dirty shirt after picking up the gold. You'll always remember this day and I'm so glad you shared it with us. Love from the US.
Hello from Seattle Washington. I have no clue how I found your channel but am so glad I did. Something we miss here in the US, especially the west coast, is the history you live in and around. Thank you for sharing
Si, Nicola White, the Northern Mudlarks and several other channels that search along the shores of the many rivers in the UK, they are all so interesting to watch 😃
I'm so excited you found that lovely bust of Queen Victoria! I'm American but my great relatives were from England, so respect. How she got there is so unreal!! Love all the bottles and finds!! I love the work you do to make the pieces useful again, so sweet! Thank you for sharing!! All the best to you and Jules!! Ps. The biggest congratulations on finding the Queen Victoria! WOW! For me the best find of your today's lark was that token of Jean d'arc dated 08.05. as it's my birthday date! Well done both you and Jules. Hello to your kitty too.
Very interesting. I love watching you and Nicola White, and you always share so much history about the items you find. I also enjoy watching Antiques Roadshow. Too bad you won't be on! Get some more luck in the muck!!
Very entertaining video and full of great finds. Who would have thought a find while mudlarking would lead you to the Antique Roadshow. So pleased for you. That must have been a fun and exciting time. Hope you continue to find more amazing finds. Have a great week and please keep safe. ❤️🇨🇦
What an wonderful, unexpected find the bust of Queen Victoria was! Thank you for letting Mudcat Daisy meow out your video. She and Nelson (and the chickens) are loved additions to your videos.
Amazing find, and antiques road show too! Thank you Daisy for the meows. The gold find is a nice little chain too. Always handy to have for those skint months!! I have my permit from PLA just need to get to the Thames now 👍🏼
First off, what a great find. I’d be so pleased to have that in my home. Secondly, I can’t fathom why they didn’t use it in the program. Such an interesting story for the viewers. I do sometimes think that there can be a snobbery amongst archaeologists and maybe the antiques world in respect of metal detectorists, bottle diggers and mud larkers. I would have thought that your story is far better that Joe Bloggs saying, “I was left this by my aunt Margaret. Can you tell me about it?”
Totally agree with you pal the are a very jealous lot the antique lot and collectors bet you money if they found that bust of the Queen you would not here the end of it would be all over the news and everything
Well done and congratulations on that unique find, Si! What a fantastic haul you had that day. It must have been a while ago as you’ve even got to the Antiques Roadshow… We love that show to bits too- It was the very first show we saw on our new colour Tv all those years ago and have loved anything about antiques ever since. Shall we see Nicola’s Congan Dog on TAR too? Had a fab time watching find after find! ❤🦘
@@Sifinds Wow Si!!!!!! What an incredible day. Loved helping you discover so many special finds! Was this place one you seldom trudged? How I wish I could come try my luck.Nothing like this in Colorado. Any history here will be found in old mines and geology. Good of you to share your pastime.
Holy Mackeral Si, who knew Queen Victoria would be laying in the muck! So glad you rescued her, & the history that comes with her! Congrats on. All your interesting finds, topped with a gold chain, WOW!!
Wow! That was extraordinary !!! I would have guessed your bust of Queen Vic to have been worth much more than he suggested. I bet it looks great on your window seal. Congratulations on all your wonderful finds, Simon. Well done!!
WAY TO GO SIMON!!! What an epic find! I think the person on Queen Victoria's brooch might be Albert. Hope you get to be on Antique Roadshow too! Great video!🥰
Wow! What a terrific day for fantastic finds. Very happy you rescued all that incredible history and thankful you brought us along to see these remarkable objects pulled from the Thames mud.
Hey Si, what an absurd amount of treasue that you’ve unearthed! Imagine your horror learning of the grizzly murder involved with your “trophy”! I think you’ll be able to give her back to King Charles one day and she can sit proudly where she should. What a great episode. PS, love the kitty at the end!❤
LOVE Daisy🥰 she's very vocal! Our vocal 18yr old kitty was pts a couple of weeks ago, miss her back answering terribly. Well, oh my goodness, let's hear it for the Queen Victoria bust, what a fantastic find, Si...well done that man!!
I've lurked your channel for a few years now, and had to drop you a line to say HUGE CONGRATS! This thing is amazing, and truly is a trophy. Kudos from America!
I always know I'm in for a treat watching you scraping in the mud! Drainpipes and stones can be very deceiving! You know you've had a good day when a ginger beer isn't the find of the day, what a bust! It makes me wonder why anyone would think a product that cleans the engine of a car would be a good thing to soak in, not to mention the fumes from ammonia burning your eyes. I hope your luck continues Simon, from what I've seen of you after over a year of watching, you deserve it. Cheers from across the pond!😊

@@cynsmi probably because it’s not worth talking about. and most of the people on antiques roadshow generally are from middle class backgrounds.
@cynsmi we had thousands of ships 🚢, that need thousands of captain's 😅

What a great day! Brilliant finds -and I was so glad to see you putting those offerings back in the river... very respectful of you xxx
Should it not be allowed to throw objects into the river? I think it is disrespectful to the wildlife.
