For me lowel level team saves are the best, they are more challenging and rewarding. In big team saves, like League 1 teams and teams in the MLS, sometimes the save can get boring because the club has so much money that they can basically do almost anything.I would definately recommend lower level teams rather than the big ones, every time.

You can easily arrange friendlies with the U21 teams from Premier League (my save is with Banbridge in Ireland!). With some luck, you can draw/win these which does not hurt your morale while building up tactic familiarity and cohesion. I am almost not training at all, just using match preparation (and rotating the players on trial I may want to keep). Also, I set to zero the scouting budget since I'll loan / offer trial and will only have players from nearby willing to join. Transfer budget is then also fully passed into wages. As soon as a young player is 2 stars, he moves up to 1st team as backup for the loans (injured / red cards / too tired). Some develop and may be sold (for a friendly + % of future sale when current value is 0). In your selection, also untick the box that keeps scouting reports up to date, wasted money.

In regards to training (depending how ‘Low’ you actually are), concentrate on Tactical familiarity. You are not really going to develop players at low levels so having tactics maxed is a must. I always do lowest level England I can with my saves so often start waaaaay down.

As someone who always starts my lower league saves around level 10 or 11, Notts County would be like the Barcelona or Real Madrid of my save world.
It's not really a proper lower league challenge picking a national league club. But everyone has different playstyles I guess.

Mate. I would really appreciate following up a Derby County rebuild. That would be, both challenging and funny to watch.

I’ve just got Chester established in the premier league after starting in the national league north. Another thing to look at is when players are released by bigger clubs. I had a few gems that carried my to the championship.

I am in year two with Salford. It was easy enough to get promoted for the 1st season but I see it being much harder in season two. For me the loan market is key.

A very helpful thing for me is to take on a lot of free loan youngsters, set up good mentors for them, and stick them playing mostly in my youth team. A 17 or 18 year old develops so fast they can go from 2 star to 5 in just three months with zero first team playing time.
Also, don't go only for players that immediately want to play for you. Once you're done with the quick signings start working on chasing the ones that aren't interested. Declare interest, make some lowball offers, get the media talking about it.
Ask your GM to recommend signings. Use it often.
