Thanks for colorizing the 1937 Flash Gordon. Hopefully people who avoid B&W films will give it a chance. I think Buster Crabbe would have loved the results of this project.
"Shut down all electrical generators at once."
But, make sure you have a headline for tomorrow's paper.
I liked the bit where he opened the door of his 'spaceship' to throw the bomb out 😄
It's like dropping food on the floor. There's a 5 second rule. lol
Colorization is a double-edge sword for me. I do t believe in taking a classic that is renown for its b/w cinematography and colorizing it. However, for these low budget, pulpy serials that were never know for their cinematography it works! The color really does adds to the fantasy of it all. Great work!
I think the farewell between Flash and Aura should have been like this:
Flash: "I guess this is q goodbye, Aura"
Aura: "Yes...Flash, I'm sorry. Because of me both your life and Dale's have been in danger numerous times. And all because I simply loved you. I only wanted you for myself, but now I understand that, if I really I love you, the best gesture I can give you is to let you be happy with the only woman you love..."
Flash: "Don't say that, Aura. After everything we've been through together, you've become a part of my life, almost as important as Dale."
Aura: "Maybe...Even though I haven't won your love, I've had the greatest time of my life with you. Do you think we'll ever see each other again?"
Flash: "I don't know, but I'm sure of one thing. If I'm the happiest man on Earth because Dale loves me, the happiest man on Mongo will be the one you fall in love with, Aura"
Aura: "Hey, for a while you were both, you know?"
Flash: "Old Gordon's luck, as they always say in my family"
*Both laugh and kiss goodbye*
Aura: "Come on, go with her..."
Flash: "Bye, Aura..."
What a great ending that would have been, so very well written!!
Based upon all that I have read on the subject, Flash Gordon Space Soldiers was the most popular cliffhanger serial of all time. Hence, all of us fans owe a debt of gratitude to Cult Cinema Classics for the fine job done in restoring this serial to living color and at a high quality. I hope that the other two Flash Gordon serials can also be colorized, especially Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe. I would also love to see the three Kay Aldridge serials done: (1) Nyoka and the Tigermen, aka Perils of Nyoka (2) Haunted Harbor, aka Pirate's Harbor and (3) Daredevils of the West. Seeing these serials colorized at a high quality is easily worth $1.00 donation per chapter.
Ted Turner started colourization in the '80's, went as far as Casablanca, film fans hated it then as the desecration it was & remains so today, Flash was a hit in b&w & should stay that way. If you want to see a colour Flash watch the 1980 Queen version, it was built for colour & looks it. Colourized b&w looks like fuzzy sepia instead of restoring prints to their original glory.
Naturally, Flash and friends would take that high priest's word about Ming being dead. He's always been so honorable and trustworthy. Just look at that smile. You can absolutely trust that face. How can you doubt him? After all, he obligingly confessed to planting a bomb without even being asked. Surely he would never lie.
I still remember that I've had seen it as a kid shown on the T.V iraq in 80s and now watching it again as an old man
OK. You can see how successful this project was, so don't just stand there . Do more more more. The other FG's and Buck Rogers. And as requested below heaps more serials. But to be serious, but only for a moment, your colorizations are absolutely top quality. Thanks for these and as we say in Hollywood "I love your work baby" Cheers.
It was a Universal Picture, and one of the last under founder Carl Laemmle. He had borrowed quite a bit to make "Show Boat" in 1935-36 and couldn't make a payment. Standard Capital, which lent the money, foreclosed on Universal and Laemmle was ousted. He died three years later. I still wanted to take Jean Rogers home; she was lovely.
I still have some Alex Raymond’s old books in the attic - he was a great artist, and a major sci-fi pioneer…but this original serial isn’t less ridiculous, honestly, than the whole ‘Star Wars’ saga.
Flash inspired SW, Lucas couldn't get the rights & had to do his own, like Spielberg with Indy.
I’ve a feeling we’ve not seen the last of Ming ..
Loved it from beginning to the end.
11th!
Such a lovely serial!
Thank you for posting this!
Post a one-video-length version!
I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.
I edited video for over 10 hours today working on a 43 minute visualizer for an album by a Grammy-nominated recording engineer
I really hope that turns out well!
Watching Flash Gordon serial episodes on this channel has been a needed respite from video editing all day today and other days
The Flash Gordon serial was made in a totally different world than the transmogrified mess that today exists.
Had the small plot point, with Ming's assistant trying to sabotage the flight back to Earth, been removed near the end, it might have worked a little better since it felt tacked on
It's weird seeing the hawk-man king on such friendly terms with Flash after having tortured him and tried to kill him. And that priest was really foolish to boast about the bomb when he's by himself surrounded by enemies.
Great job on this classic serial, thank you!
Actor Ted Lorch's "Mad" Scene at 16:15 is one of the nuttiest in film history. Fans of the 3 Stooges may remember him in a much more dignified performance as Confederate Major "Bloodhound" Filbert ("he can smell a spy a mile away!") in "Uncivil Warriors", who witnesses the Stooges' classic feather-coughing scene. LR
Right. And King Kala, played by Duke York, played all the monsters in those 3 Stooges shorts. He was a lifeguard that turned into a stuntman. Sadly, he later committed suicide
Loved it thanks CCC.
I love these so much.
Thank you
i love the gd job that uve done colorizing this serie...and i want to ask u upload more series with Larry °Buster°Crabbe...tnks for uploading gems like this!!!💎✨💎

The old style Universal Pictures trademark was a perfect ending to this serial!
Love every episode thx u
Best thing I'll see today!
The intro to Flash Gordon always scared me as a kid 😢
As a kid I got This series mixed up with Buck Rogers Because Buster Crabbe was the main character in both series, so at first I thought it was the same till I noticed that the space ships where different. I'm not to sure of the channel that showed the series it was either WPIX channel 11 or WOR channel 9 in New York.
Loved This Since I Was A Kid He was My Hero
looks like Flashes ship runs on a flathead 4 cyl engine.
Gracias. Épico

Space soldier 🪖
Isnt that that spray painter guy from youtube 👀 etoe or whatever his name is.
Why did that priest set the bomb on the return flight ? Then tell everyone afterwards. Does anyone know why they wrote that in the movie ?
Because as the LAST installment of the series there was to be no cliff-hanger... thus they needed some kind of excitement in the finale.
John Goodman would be perfect in the role of King Voltan
Nótese que el pardigma estético femenino no es muy diferente al actual
Dublado por favor

how many woke karen,s out there glk.
I'd appreciate you deleting "woke" from this commentary. It is anachronistic and unnecessarily political.
