- The terrible and treacherous Pendragon plans to gain the throne of Cornwall by getting the king to abdicate and to marry his lovely daughter. To help him he has his dreadful witches in his castle and his almost unstoppable sorcery. A giant under his control abducts the princess, but on the way home with her the giant meets farming lad Jack who slays him. This is only the beginning. Be assured Pendragon and his evil magic are far from done.

Trivia:
Director Nathan Juran won an Academy Award for art direction on How Green Was My Valley. In the 1950s, He handled mostly low-budget westerns and sci-fi opuses, his most famous (or infamous) being Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (which he filmed under the name "Nathan Hertz"). On the other hand, he was also responsible for the superb fantasy adventure The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. In the early 1960s, he journeyed to Europe, where he spent several years piloting adventure epics and spaghetti westerns.

Christmas wasn't Christmas if Jack the Giant Killer (and Jason and the Argonauts) wasn't on the TV when I was growing up in England in the early 1970's. Good to see it again after all these decades.

I recall the TV promotional ads for this this movie when I was in 2nd grade. I so wanted to see this in the movie theater but my Mom was unable to make that happen so I never saw this film until it came to TV many years later. Mom was able to take us to Jason & the Argonauts and Mysterious Island so my sis and I got plenty of awe and wonder.

Believe it or not, I'm 65 and this the first time I ever saw this. I never get tired of Claymation. The Leprechaun had me in stitches with his Irish rhythm sayings! Love it!

Such fond memories I have of this film. I saw it with a group of friends in theater when I was a kid. We played 'Jack the Giant Killer' in my yard for weeks and I always wanted to be Jack... LOL.. Sometimes I think it SUCKS to grow up 😒😒

It does suck to grow up, the world corrupts all the innocence and goodness in a child, of those fortunate enough to have good parents to begin with as some don't even get that so we are blessed.
If I could have a wish it would be go back to the 60’s . I am very grateful that I grew up in the 60’s .
My brother and I would play two monsters in the front yard after these Harryhausen movies. We would move that slightly jerky slow way. The neighbors must have thought it was two boys putting on a kabuki play.
It certainly did for those giants.
Torin Thatcher is a wonderful villain.

One can argue points, but this is so much better than what is put out today, just a adventure, good vs evil, comradship, loyalty and love. We've forgotten how to make such gems.
Glad I finally found this! The witches getting vanquished by breaking the mirrors was always what I remembered most.

I'm 53 and I've always loved the stop frame, the Sinbad movies, 20million miles from Earth, love them! There's been a few newer movies where the stop frame would have been a nice fit, instead of the low budget CGI, like the last 20mins of the movie Season of the Witch, good movie anyway I've seen six times....so far lol

The Witch Minions of Pendragon... Tubo, the triple-horned warlock... Zela, with her flaming, smoking bouquet... Cherah, The fish-faced Witch of the Wind... the Trio of Witch sisters from the bog...
Second giant... Galligantua, the Two-Headed ogre servant of Pendragon...
The Third Wish's multi-tentacled Sea Dragon...
Lastly... the Harpy creature / Pendragon transformed.
Torin Thatcher would have made a great Master in Dr Who!
he would have mae a great Emperor Ming in Flash Gordon.
This is not a cheesy B Movie, this was a massive production in its time and it was highly sought after, my father, his brothers, cousins and entire Highschools went to see this in Alberta as kids, this and 3 other movies were huge, like we see movies today, they would line up for hours to see these movies, not a B movie, this is a Blockbuster hit back then and was all star cast
Yeah, you can tell by the production values, the movie is really rich in details and with lavish sets, a very different ball game to the adventure b-films of that era.

@A QUALQUER MOMENTO VITÓRIA yes you are sorry because this monster is not a cyclops this monster has two eyes a cyclops has one eye and the Cyclops in the 7th voyage of Sinbad is more realistic the one in this movie looks cartoonish perhaps you should look at both movies again this time with your eyes open and you will see that the 7th voyage of Sinbad Cyclops is a real one-eyed cyclops and not a two eyed clown like this one 😮

I still remember seeing this movie as a kid, its old, dated, and a little cheesy, but I never pass up a chance to see it again.

I saw this movie 1963 at the Somerville drive-in New Jersey. I was 9 years old, Finally got to see it again. It's exactly what I remember it to be, Just one of those classics, We never forget. Be well, Uncle Martin.

I saw this film on VCR in the early 80s when I was a child, and I watched it regularly, these kinds of films had a particular taste and a particular perception during childhood ❤
Viewing this as an adult, the stop motion is nowhere near Harryhausen standards, but as a kid it seemed so realistic and a bit scary.
Yeah, it adds a level of intensity I didn't know could do so much for a film that may not have the greatest budget.
Im so lucky my dad had me late in his life. I grew up watching these movies, they are a pure joy.
Theres no cynicism in them, which is just so refreshing.
Its like theres a proper and right order to the world, and despite the threats that assail it righteousness always wins in the end. Its cliché, but its genuinely very comforting and nice

This movie was made to go against The 7th voyage of Sinbad but even with its smaller budget this
movie gave us creatures and a cyclop, adventure and all kind of goodies that a young man would
love in a fantasy movie. Love all actors/actresses that stared in this great little adventure.
And dont forget , there is a musical version of this movie...not the best but it sure was
fun to see and hear it also.....i made sure to get a copy of the musical which is still available
here and there. Dont forget, this is before CGI.... lots of fun if you dont take it seriously.

Kerwin Mathews who plays Jack also played Sinbad in 1958 the seventh voyage of Sinbad.
Never even heard of this movie until today.. loved it.. it has that Darby O'gill and the little people type of charm... Not much for musicals but I'll try to find that version of this tale... Peace hope, good will and God bless...

The king is an awesome dad. Leads sword first into his daughter's room regardless the unknown danger. Later, before sending her away, you can tell he was thinking "well, she's likely to come back with a grandson, but on the other hand, I only know one person who can single-handedly kill a giant."

Thanks for posting, really enjoyed it! I saw it as a kid on the big screen in a lavish old movie palace, when it was first released, and it was thrilling indeed. Over the decades since I could still remember those bizarre "dragon guards" marching in place menacingly, until Jack vanquishes them with the magic whip; and when I finally saw the movie again some years ago at a museum screening, the scene had lost none of its weird power. It retains that power today when I watched it yet again here on your channel. The monster scenes are exciting, the creatures are pretty ferocious, and well-choreographed. The movie stands on its own as much more than an imitation of The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. A fun film! I like Judi Meredith too as the good princess/evil witch. She played her role memorably! And of course Kerwin Mathews made a fine hero, and Torin Thatcher the perfect villain!
Went to the movie theater to see this when it first came out.
I'm 60 and I'm glad it's here. I can watch it as many times as I want. Classic. The two makes a perfect couple in the movie. Everything was great.
Same here. First saw it in the Princess Theater, built back in silent movie days. Wantonly demolished in late 1975.
Likewise for the Granada theater in Chicago where I saw the film. This huge movie palace went back to the silent days or '30s, not sure on the dates. Then demolished for a bland "modern" building in the '80s or thereabouts. 😞 I saw films like The Nutty Professor w/ Jerry Lewis, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and The Graduate there. Took a girl there on my first date ever to see Hitchcock's Torn Curtain. Nice memories...

I first saw this 50 years ago New year's Day 1974,the scene whee the witches attack the ship was the scariest part.

I was a teenager when I first watched this and I love it now as much as I loved it then. I was gutted though when Jack smashed the mirror and broke the spell on the Princess. I much preferred her as a witch. I thought she looked amazing! Lol! Apparently when she wore the eye contacts they made her eyes really sore and in some scenes I believe you can see them watering slightly.

I was born 2 years after this movie's theatrical run. I never knew this movie existed. Almost 60 years in the dark about this excellent film.

Last time I seen this movie was back in August 1979 living in Los Angeles. The next day, I left for US Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. I like this movie. Thanks for putting up on RUclips. I'm going to watch it as often as I can.
Nothing like Stop Motion Animation way better and more realistic than any CGI we have today.
This Stop Motion Animation is great and I love it. However it's not more realistic than modern CGI. But for me the fact it's not so realistic is part of the enjoyment of it.

Edward Small wanted to do a follow up to 7nth Voyage of Sinbad. Ray Harryhausen was not interested, so he got a group of young animators including Jim Danforth. Then he rushed them into production with only one of the monsters completely finished, the flying dragon at the end. The others had their rubber flesh slapped over the armatures in a very crude fashion which gave them that skinny, smooth look. Danforth was one of two or three animators and his work stood out as the best. But the shoddy look of the monsters hurt the production badly and ultimately kept the film from enjoying the success it could have had. It fared well enough for kiddie shows. But has fallen into obscurity since. See it at all, even in this cropped format is rare.
Any film with Ray Harryhausen involved is gold ! They have such charm😊❤😊

New movies are usually digital. Back then, it was all film and chemicals, using coloring processes like Technicolor. It's a very interesting topic.
It’s because of some dumb film school dogma about getting the perfect mix of blue and orange which is why all movies from the past couple of decades just look like dull mixtures of the two. This was after moviemakers in the seventies decided that darkness and grittiness equaled authentic realism which is why everyone in medieval films since then always wear all black, brown and grey even though if you know anything about the Middle Ages, the brightly colored technicolor movies with gleaming whitewashed castles are what things really looked like back then. For example, if you can see the the stones in a castle, it’s a ruin. Living operational castles were always plastered and then washed with white lime to prevent weather damage and then painted with murals on the inside. Dyes were highly prized and abundant especially because anyone could make them. Wode being the most common since it’s a common plant that produces a wide spectrum of colors depending on how long you boil it and let it set. You wouldn’t see any dark rusty armor as it was polished daily with sand until gleaming and everybody bathed. Bathing culture was huge with many stories from the period involving bathhouses.

Haven't seen this since around 1963. Who ever thought I would see this in 2023 with a different view of demons, mysticism, and the occult. Interesting kids movie.

This film is a childhood favourite of mine. Kerwin Matthews and Torin Thatcher knock it out of the park. I own this on Blu Ray and I also live in Cornwall where its supposedly set.
Not sure of my British history, but I believe Cornwall was the first region in Britain to abandon paganism and convert to Christianity, it seems the purpose of the dark forces, in the movie was to re conquer Cornwall and thus all of Britain. Strange, but in 2023 we are witnessing a world wide battle between good and evil. Time for all of us to be Jack the giant killer.

One-of-a-kind, I've seen it countless times over the the past 50 years since me and my cousin went to a Saturday Matinee, they showed alot of these types of movies in my little hometown of Hudson Bay Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦 and you can't forget all the cool Japanese monster films 👌👍

I’m 68 and this movie was just fascinating to me when I saw it as a kid…the scenes with the witches kidnapping the princess terrified me…movies nowadays with CGI and blue screen FX have neither the charm or the fun of this kind of storytelling….

This movie is amazing. My mother saw this back in the 1950s when she was in Grade School. When I saw it I could tell why my mother liked it. The stop-motion creatures are amazing. The monsters in today movies are CGI and the magic is gone. I own the film on DVD.
