  • A deep litter system is a housing management method where a thick layer of bedding material, such as sawdust, is spread on the floor of the poultry house.
As the birds move around, their droppings, along with any spilled feed and other organic matter, are incorporated into the bedding material. Instead of removing the bedding frequently, the deep litter system relies on natural microbial activity to break down the waste and compost it over time.
This creates a deep layer of organic material that serves several purposes: providing insulation, absorbing moisture, controlling odors, and promoting natural behaviors like scratching and pecking.
Properly managed, a deep litter system can improve animal welfare, ensure proper aeration, prevent bad odor in the poultry house and, prevent diseases because the chicken will not interact with their droppings. #Let'sGrowTogether #PoultryFarming #farming #agriculture
