    My chickens and turkeys run with the goats in their yard and return to the coop in the evening where we lock them up for the night. I think just having the goats helps with predators. We see hawks but in 3 years haven’t had a single bird taken. Ours love love love meat scraps, but we’ve never had that much scrap. Thank you for this video! Many Blessings to you all!!

    I never thought about throwing my butchering scraps out to my chickens. We just always drove and dumped out to the edge of our pasture/woods away from the house. Our dogs always seem to find some deer bones and hide and bring it back to the house though. I do have a lazy man compost area that my free range chickens have easy access to but you sure have me considering changing some things up around here to make it even better! Thank you!

    Okay, you've earned my sub after I came across your channel recently. This is huge info for me. Please be honest with results, such as whether or not any birds get sour crop and predators. I've been steadily working toward same goal. My flock gets tidbits while I process but I've never dumped the bucket into compost pile because it's not tall enough, so my flock spreads it out within a day. I have to cover to let it cook for awhile then allow them to access. Also, I've heavy predators around. Right on, cheers!

    Good stuff as always, but that pig carcass had to be very ripe. I think I could smell it through my computer monitor!
    Nonetheless, here's one for you to think about. I live in a rural HOA in southern VT, which HAD a lackadaisical Board; we could do pretty much anything, even if doing it was against the governing documents, such as raising fowl (strange word, fowl)... until recently. Now, we have an "experienced" HOA-dweller at the head of the Board; she's from the city and she pokes and prods. Yup, she's one of them. My question(s) to you is: 1) how do I prove that I need 30 chickens as companion animals; 2) how do I run her off; 3) how do I defend myself and my family's right to provide our own food on our land?
    To note, I live on a dead-end road with three houses and yurt (4-lots). Each lot is surrounded by trees, and the lot sizes are ~5 acres.
    Appreciations in advance.

    Good Morning, can I use coastal Bermuda hay in my chicken coop that's been sprayed for weeds and fertilized? I'm trying to figure out water to put down on the ground to help obsorb the moisture during the winter. The coop is covered

    • @barriebailey7707
      @barriebailey7707 11 месяцев назад

      Be careful, most hay, that’s been sprayed for weeds, is sprayed with aminopyralid to kill the broad leaf weeds. This contaminant can be found in hay, bagged composts and manures, even some 10 yrs old..It’s toxic to vegetables, except corn which is in the grass family, and some brassicas. It make makes the leaves of the growing tips curl up inward and shrivel appearing as if they didn’t get watered even when they have plenty of water and the plant becomes stunted and may even die.
      The manufacturers know how toxic it is and on the bottom of their bags which most people never look at, it says that the sprayed grasses should not be exported off the property.The contamination can last for years, before the soil microorganisms can break it down. the only thing I know of that might help is mycoremediaton with mushroom mycelium.

    Why don’t you like to feed chicken to chickens? Is it a preference or a biological issue for the chickens? New chicken owner here. Thanks for the video

      They may start pecking at each other and begin to cannibalize. Same reason why you don't feed chickens eggs in a shell. Then they will go after their young.

    Id just bury the pig guts in a trench and put some boards over it to stop animsls digging it up You could put some lime on it in the trench and rot the whole thing down

    In the UK it is actually illegal to feed your chickens (or pigs) meat. Which is ridiculous, they are omnivores ffs!

    In my country it's strictly forbidden to feed chickens any animal product, except for live insects. They're scared chickens might get mad cow disease. I'm just a dude in the woods nobody cares about. Should I care about these laws? They do sound really stupid to me.
