Reminds me of mom. She is as hard working as her. Working 7 days a week, 365 days a year and without vacation. I look lazy next to her. She always tells me, "if you are motivated to work, then you dont feel like working at all. Its like play to you".
I was having a horrible day until I saw that Goldthread has posted a new video. Day saved. This was a good one. Thanks so much for sharing great stories with us.
This woman is a BOSS! Her story of coming up from being an ex-con is so cool. Also, her hand gestures (at 1:19 for example) remind me so much of my own grandmother, also from southern Fujian 😂
Thanks for not sugar coating this story on this lady and her delicious food. Not everything is roses, much work and heart to making great things is what the story is about.
I only recently found Goldthread but I gotta say... I LOVE this channel. You guys make some exceptionally good content. Bad audio on one or two videos but that’s it. Happy I found you!
alot of malaysians and Singaporean were deported back to China btw the 50s to 60s for supporting communism. many ended up in Xiamen. Not supprised if she is one of them
Makes more video about Xiamen. Its so interesting cos almost Chinese across South East Asia are Fujianese. We want to know more abt Our ancestral cuisine and similarities. Thankss great content 👍👍
not really true but if you think about diaspora/province population, it's probably the highest. There are lots of cantonese too but guangdong is a much more populous province than fujian
I love sweet and sour pork. Here it has a reputation of being American Chinese food that Chinese people wouldn't eat. I love how this disproves the notion. Tasty food is tasty, no matter where it comes from or who serves it. Great story- hope she gets some time to rest and travel. Feel bad for her son though - she put him on blast 🤭 I should point out that while sweet and sour pork has origins in China, in the U.S., any batter fried meat in a very sugary and/or cornstarch laden sauce is automatically seen as Chinese-American fast food. eg. orange chicken from Panda Express, sesame chicken, and sweet and sour pork.
Similar to those hanfu enthusiast, it is because these people think something is unrefined, they believe it isn't originally from China, thus disowning it from their cultural identity. They need to chill and explore more.
Omg I LOVE This woman!!!!! She is Absolutely Amazing and Such a HARD HARD WORKER OMG!!!!! She is just BEAUTIFUL And Strong and Smart!!!! I hope shes doing well 🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰
Sweet and sour pork has been my favorite since I was a kid, growing up in northern part of Vancouver BC. I grew up visiting all the Chinese communities, shopping areas and bakeries. It is sad that the people who came here from Hong Kong to work on the railway long ago in Canada there history isn’t appreciated in Canada. The schools here just started to acknowledge Black Lives Matter and Aboriginal background.
@Reko Starr trust me mate, western culture only hates on veggies because they cook them so plain, no wonder conventional boiled "factory made" frozen vegetables taste like shit and are hated by children. The Chinese on the other hand, they really know what they're doing with veggies. I'm not a fan of vegetables in general, but when we eat in a Chinese restaurant, the vegetables are always something else, truly amazing. You can still be a vegan and enjoy their food.
Well, If They didn't use Mask going to this Place then They just don't care anymore and if They didn't use Mask before or after arrived there, then Its normal because You are going to eat there without Mask anyway... ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯ Covid or not, I'm not going to use Mask if I'm going to eat at the place anyway... Wkwkwk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The fact that she brought up chefs quitting suggests it is hard for her to step away knowing in such a tough kitchen, she may come back to nothing by leave the stall to someone else to manage. She likes her place on her own terms, so leave her alone with her place of content.
Hope this isn't offensive but how is the butchers meat able to just rest at room temp outside without getting spoiled?? Food looks delicious and love her energy. Definitely the boss
Meats sold in the morning are butchered early, like at 3-5am, not the night before, and then distributed to markets. Most local markets only open til noon. So the timeframe between butchering and sale is only 6-8 hours. It's not super fresh, but it's still quite safe.
Godly people are so cute to God 🐁 Bunch of kids! 🐞 This grandma is a kid to God! 🐓 A dork and a playful kid 🐄 She’s very blessed! 🐞 She’ll become a vegan! 🦃
Dam that’s sad that her own son can’t do shit and don’t want to continue her legacy . She talk about her employees will take over after she’s gone , she work so hard to give her son better life yet he don’t want too . 🤯
Did you see how she work? Even his employee told her to stop working that hard. If her son was educated, he might wanted to do something else. Would you want to work like this if this was your mom? You might want to brag and said you do. Try one hour and I bet you would want to leave the kitchen.
@@ms.chuisin7727 Well, theres always first time... ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯ If It's Me, even if I don't want to inherited the Career, atleast I would learn how to Cook It and how to be like that to make sure I would have Last Option... ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
Haha i understand both sentiments. For someone outside the family restaurant business it’s sometimes hard to get. But managing a restaurant is damn tough. You basically think business 24/7, no private time at all. I m in the corporate life now (50 h week) and compared to my time back then in the restaurant business it’s relatively relaxed. I never had that much free time on my hands.
I think it depends on the type of gambling if it's like any other countries- Casinos and the like *do* exist from what I can tell considering I literally remember reading about a Soviet aircraft carrier which got retrofitted to a casino, but unlicensed illegal gambling dens are probably subject to shutdowns/criminal arrests. A game of majong or cards with x amount of cash that won't bankrupt people and/or just done between friends are probably fine. Just a speculation though

A hard-worker with heart. Hope she’s doing ok during these times.
As a Singaporean, it was so heartwarming when she spoke the local Min Nan dialect (or Hokkien) with the market stallholders. I understood it fully :)
