    It must taste amazing compared to store bought. I have so much respect for this couple. I wonder if your guys could collaborate with these amazing people to film the secrets and process so that the knowledge isn't lost. You wouldn't have to air it if they want privacy. Just an archive.

    Rice cakes known and origins are of the 9 li tribe. Only the 9 li tribe descendants uses a wooden tub mortar with 2 wooden hammers.

    I have heard of The Solstice Festival (winter) and Spring Festival but my first time learning they celebrate Double 9th festival as well.

      China has hundreds of dialects, you wouldn’t find too many people who speak perfect standard mandarin

      Chinese parents often want their kids to have a “better life” than they did. No parent wants their kids to have to do such strenuous work with such long working hours with minimal earnings (profit is usually low on these foods). I’m sure they rather have their children working easier jobs that are less time and physically demanding. I feel bad for them too and I don’t want a culture to die but I don’t think their children should be taking over if I’m going to look at it from a parents perspective

      yeah its basicaly the same pounded rice but since mochi is a japanese word and this is a chinese show, thats why its the chinese name for it not the japanese name. and even in china i think they have different name for it as well

      YABA Mochi/rice cake is usually niangao. Apparently they call it ciba over there.
