May not be good for drywall but when I caulk I put my bead down use very small amount of dish soap so it won't stick to finger and it gives a smooth professional looking line. You will have to keep applying soap along the way depending on how long the bead is. Learned this trick in Germany.

During a precision caulking job. Tape the tube of caulk to the gun to stop rotation problem. Cut the "SMALLEST!!!" 45 degree hole possible in the tip. Clean any burrs off the tip with a file or sand paper.

I'm a huge fan of setting compound. "Hot Mud" in the bag. Can be applied an inch thick and will set up hard as concrete in 5 min or 90 minutes depending on what type you buy. Then can be wet sanded with a spray bottle and a sanding sponge. Use a bucket of water to clean sponge when it loads up. Dustless repairs.

A little off subject of this video but Ive watched a few of your videos and decided to hang sheetrock over the wood walls in my 100yo house bathroom then I taped and mudded it. wasn't all that hard at all and turned out really good. I believe its because of all the body work I've done on cars over the years using bondo and block sanding and knowing how to feather it out to make mud lines disappear.

A note book or pad of paper is the best thing in the world to wipe your fingers on during a caulk job. When paper gets full just tear it off. Fold it in half to keep from getting caulk on something. Then start with a new sheet. Paper towels are terrible and make a mess. They don't clean your fingers very well, leave lint, and they tear and stick to your fingers after a while.

I tape a piece of paper near by to deal with the caulking excess. I also use tape to mack out studs when installing hand rails and grab bars. No pencil marks, looks like it has been there forever. I will bet we could trade caulking stories till it gets dark.

Lookin good but if you really want it to hold up you should try elastomeric caulking it has way more flex in long run and even has a little texture in it for those textured walls. Dont get me wrong love Dap fast dry but more for trimwork...

We’re in the same boat and closing on our new home next week. We had an expert out to examine the foundation, and once he cleared it, we had a structural engineer out to evaluate drywall crack causes. In our case drywall cracking was attributed to multiple causes, ie. roof leak, time and perhaps an inexperienced taper or rushed job when house was built. Was a relatively inexpensive charge for the peace of mind it gave us going forward. Good luck!

Not needed if your taping then but can be helpful for large cracks. But it could take overnight to set up enough to do any good. So usually we just pre-fill with hot mud if there’s a gap.

How'd they resolve the foundation issue

There isn't necessarily a problem with the foundation. All houses settle after they're built.

But won’t the crack come back over time?? Why not cut it out full in with mud, mesh tape and mud again?

With a caulking like big stretch, it’s less likely to come back than with hard crunchy joint tape and mud and FAR less work
