  • Fishing in the realm og midnight sun, aurora borealis, Lofoten and Nprth Cape.
    Huge catch when crabfishing in Båtsfjord, Norway. An error with pot 2, so not a good catch there, but we got approx. 100 crabs on the four pots. These crabs are sent alive to all over the world and makes for excellent fine dining. Each crab has a value of approx. €110 when selling to the factory.

    I fished them on the Bering Sea beginning in 1973 and finally retiring in the early 1990s. I really appreciate that collapsible pot design. I don't know if you'll ever see this, but is there a go-to manufacturer of those pots? I'd like to build a smaller one for my subsistence crabbing in SE Alaska from my 42' motor sailer.

    • @norwayfishing
      @norwayfishing  Год назад +2

      Hi from Norway! Yes, the pot design has been researched on for years now. There are both large collapsible pots (like the ones I use here), and smaller ones which suit a one-person boat perfectly. The pots I use here are actually quite old, from the late 90-ties. They can't really compete with more modern designs.

    I know they're up there I just don't have the resources to get there and fish or I would have done it a long time ago please correct me if I'm wrong it's somebody release a bunch of king crab up there above Norway along time ago biomass has grown exponentially ever since is there any truth to that or do they naturally occur there I was involved in commercial fishing for just around 20 years I'm thinking about going back into it the longer I'm out doing that the better I get mind body and soul City Life is not any life surfing and fishing is the real life thank you for your video you are doing the right thing don't stop keep charging Full Speed Ahead

    • @norwayfishing
      @norwayfishing  Год назад

      Yes, that is correct! The Russians put out Kamchatka king crab in their part of the cold Barents Sea. This was done in the 50'ties and 60'ties I believe. Apart from a lone visitor now and then, the crab did not spread to Norwegian waters until the 90'ties. It really is a huge and healthy biomass in this area, but still nothing compared to the Bering Sea. In the Norwegian quota area only boats under 40 feet are allowed to join. Outside the quota area it is free fishing for all, as Norway believes this to be an alien species and wants to keep biomass from spreading further.

    How many pots do you get to use?

    • @norwayfishing
      @norwayfishing  2 года назад +4

      In the quota area a maximum of 30 pots for each boat. I myself have never used that many, this season in 2021 I used 12 pots which yielded a daily catch of 600-700 kilos.

      @@neroyellow The quota area is east of 26E in Finnmark, Norway, close to border with Russia. In this area a limited amount of total quota issued by the government is split every year on each vessel qualified. West of 26E there are no rules so anyone can join with no limits on pots and gear used.

      Hi, yes, fishing in Norway is lucrative and nice work! If you are a resident of any EU-country, you have the same opportunity as Norwegians to buy a small boat and start fishing in Norway! In my home port of Havøysund, Finnmark, I know both Danish, German and Latvian fishermen with own smaller vessels.
