I have always admired the Norwegians fishing techniques. I like the way they go through everything before they commit themselves. Congratulations to all the people involved into making this big machine to catch fish to feed people. If i compare my 30 foot canoe to this huge fishing ship, i coud fit 1000 canoes of my size, but it helps to look at how man can go to this extremes to maximise his catch. I have to get me a bigger boat to fish too but it won't be that huge maybe move from 50 hp to 100 hp and get a boat where you can sleep and spend more time at sea.

Cool view on seeing how this ship works, but I'm wondering, really, how long can the oceans produce fish in this abundance when ships like this take so much fish in one swipe? I would imagine that sooner or later there won't be any more fish if huge ships like this empty the oceans of fish at this rate...Scary though the oceans with no fish...

The Traveler Luckily more and more countries are putting strict quotas in place to reduce overfishing. There are still a couple of countries like China that tend to ignore these quotas. It is getting much better than it was in the past. Continued conservatism will help protect our natural resources.

Norway has for decades had a strict quota system that avoids overfishing.
There are control systems in place and there are a continious research regime that monitor the fish stock. In this way next years quota will be set in order to maintain a sustainable takeout.
There is nothing random about it. This is respected by the fishers, because a good management system is in their own interests.
The research is done by Havforskningsinstituttet (the Norwegian Marin research institute) in Bergen. It is also the largest marine institute in Europe.
That Norway has modern and effective fishing vessels isn't synonymous with overfishing - straight the opposite. It speaks about good economy due to good management of the fishstock.

Espen Vike I figured it was something like that. and the pump line is the black one that connect to the white steel 180° then makes its way in between the two big spools and goes into what I'm guessing is the pump right near the stairs at the bottom of the frame at 23:30 .

    To all the haters:
This is the only way to catch fish today in a way that makes it both profitable for the fishermen (Yes, they are! They mend the nets and all other equipment, they handle the job in gale as well as the calmest day of the decade (this day), they also can do it the old fashioned way if that is necessary, they are seamen of highest class.) and at the same time makes the price of the product possible to buy for ordinary people.
So nice to watch calm and controlled work, the complete opposite of "Deadliest catch"?
But the music I turned down...

It's clear to me that the producer has great knowledge, interest and experience in trawler fishing. He or she had more interest in the minute details and mechanics of the operation and I take it this film was meant for persons with similar pursuits. But as for me a land-lubber ;)…… I wanted to see a lot of fish. :D

Video quality superb, vessel.incredible. I wonder how long it takes to repay the loan and start making a profit. Sophisticated sonar assists in finding the wanted species of fish so no unnecessary wastage and endless dumping of dead fish that goes on with smaller fishing vessels.

How do the fish get from the net into the ship? Is that black thing towards the end like a big vacuum that sucks the fish out of the net? Fascinating! And loved those big orca swimming around - do they appear often? So many questions but I am curious!

      Hi Kristin :)
That's right, at 22.30 we lift out the fish pump, it pumps the fish on board.
We see the orca`s coming up on the side occasionally.
      Just nice with questions.

It cost around 30 million US$.
But even if you had the money you wouldn't have the knowledge and qualifications to operate it.

      @xpost9381 4 года назад

No problems with 10 or 15 foot wavees - for that matter. There are other videos on YT showing such vessels operate in quite rough seas.
