If you just walk into a pirate camp they immediately start shooting as soon as they discover you. At what point do you just sit and wait for them to shoot first to claim self defense? Theres a reasonable amount of leeway in the case of the pirates; as Vaas' DLC in FC5 showed, alot of them were former tribesmen, and its reasonable to assume that at least SOME of them were innocent of doing bad things, and just joined up to not be victimized.

Jason Brody, easily my favorite Far Cry protagonist with the best storyline. I love this game. Sucks that this is what happened to him afterwards though. I don't really blame him for turning out like this, I get that it is morally wrong but still it's not like he killed innocents and even the gameplay tells us that he doesn't approve of it nor did he involve them. He rescued his friends, made sure they had a safe spot, had a plan to leave, and then when he realized what he was becoming and how much he enjoyed it he told them that he can't come home.
I know that he does from this info but still I wish he didn't have to be punished for basically shutting down a human trafficking ring that also deals drugs and such run by literal pirates.

It’s unknown. It’s purposefully left ambiguous as to which ending is canon. Either way, Jason isn’t mentioned throughout the rest of the franchise, and I personally think that thematically it makes sense that perhaps the joining Citra ending is the canon one, and Jason is simply dead.

Been seeing a lot of FC3 content as of lately and it’s making me want to go back and play it for the first time in years. I have the remaster from when you got it with FC5 and since 6 was so disappointing I couldn’t even finish it(which says a lot because I finished New Dawn which seems universally hated) it would be nice to go back to a Far Cry game that was top tier. 3 and 5 by far are the best games in the series.

I had a personal theory about Far Cry 3 since it's one of Ubisoft's biggest assets that doesn't have any direct ties to their connected universe.
My theory is that Jason Brody isn't going to be killed off in any way. I think he's Nomad, from the Ghost Recon series. Think about it...
Jason Brody proved to the world that he was a force of nature. 4 and a half thousand kills under his belt that he achieved in a few months to a year with skills that were mostly self-taught.
That proves that he would be an absolutely invaluable asset to any military. I think the Ghost program found him in prison, wiped all record of him clean from the world, and trained him to be a soldier.
Wildlands is unleashing Jason onto a Bolivian cartel that got a little too handsy with their government. Give Jason a target and let him figure out the rest. Watch as he mows down a country on his own now that his immense skills were honed into precision.
Breakpoint is another attempt at unleashing Jason at a group gone rogue but when he's the one being hunted, he's back in his element. His training as a soldier help him to keep calm but his experience in the events of Far Cry 3 make him the deadliest being on that island. He mows down the wolves, avenges his brothers and sisters in arms, and proves once again, for a third time, that a couple thousand armed opponents aren't enough to take him down.
His victims were pirates and sex traffickers……CASE DISMISSED!

You know what I think would be fantastic? A Far Cry Game where one of the previous protagonists gathers the other protagonists for some kind of mission with morally dubious purposes and outcomes. Then the follow up game is a new protagonist who is alied with or against the old protagonists, viewing them as either heroes or villains based on your actions in the previous game.
