Saw this video years ago and have modified and customized many of my insoles to fit MY foot. It works great and is cheap. I would add--Don't sweat your skiving. Cut the outer edge at an angle the best you can. A bit of usage and it smooths down nicely. The 1/4" or 6-7mm felt seems thick, but it compacts down over time. Additionally, it is felt. If you need it a bit thinner, you can pull it apart to make it thinner and again, it will compact down nice and smooth.
Thank you for your kindness in sharing your knowledge. I have had damage to Achilles tendon and plantar fasciitis for 10 months and made these arch supports last night. Its wonderful for pain not to be so bad. I made a pad for my heel too. God bless you.
Hello there! Me again. So, the arch supports I built from felt have slipped inwards by like 4cm. Like they've been pushed up the side of my shoe. The very bottom layer of the felt (with the adhesive) sort of... stretched? The upper felt layers are intact. I used furniture felt as I couldn't easily find any orthopedic felt. Could this be the problem? Have you seen this happen before with insoles you've modified with felt for your patients? No worries if you're not sure. I'll experiment some more. I just thought I could save myself some trouble if you already know the secret! Thanks again for your useful and informative video.
I do not know what furniture felt is. Occasionally that does happen with the ortho felt but not that often. The solution has always been to simply replace the felt or more expensive options that require custom work.
@@frugalfoot4973 No worries! I appreciate your reply. I'll experiment some more :) Furniture felt is just thick pads of adhesive felt you can cut to size (to protect wooden floors from tables, chairs etc). I thought it would probably work the same way.
Hi Dr Dave, These are what I've tried in shoes without removable insoles. I prefer the Pedag arch supports (1 & 2) to the others: a.co/4Rozx2m a.co/645rKzN a.co/eeDyV7j a.co/9E2XHZp
Akshay: Yes, I am familiar with each of these products. So it sounds as if the limiting factor here is that your shoe does not have a removable insole so you must use a cookie. Just like an otc arch support, the effectiveness of an arch cookie will also be balanced by the height of the cookie versus its compressibility. In other words, if the cookie miraculously fit your arch perfect but was made out of concrete you would hate it because it would be uncomfortable to wear.. On the other hand, if a perfectly fitting cookie was made out of warm butter you would crush it and it would not be an effective support.. Whether you are looking for an arch support or an arch cookie your goal should be to find one that is closest to your arch yet still provides comfort because it is not too hard and is effective because it is not too soft. Since the arch cookie is not customized to you there is no way to know which of these products will work best until you try it.
Not durable I think I did lots of them for all my shoes,, especially unused insoles can be sticked under with 2 sided band, by that way insoles do not move and clean
omg, a professional is over here showing DIYs and not pushing expensive products. you sir are a God send.

Thanks for the video ...here in my city many doctors don't understand the actual concept of arch and feet pain. I will definitely give it a try.

I will give this a try. Thank you, doctor!
Thanks for your comments Vera.
Did it work?
Have tried many arch supports and none match the location of my arch. Ordering soon. So simple, custom support!
You're my hero. Thank you for this!
Thanks Evelyn. I appreciate the comment.
I'll try to make something like this from EVA foam, 'cause that's what I have. Thanks.
Thank you! I'll add this to my flat sandals!
For UK a 7mm piece can be bought at Boots for £4.90
Can exercises , like toe and foot exercises raise the arch or strengthen it?
May not make $$
this is really good, will try that for sure

Legit trail running kicks, bro.
Thanks Jay. 👍
This is GENIUS! Thank you so much for sharing 😁
Thank you for your comment Shelby.
Are there any similar sticking pads that could be delivered to uk?
I know that there are pre made pads that have an adhesive back. Whether they can be delivered to the UK I have no idea. Thanks for the comment.
Try going to a fabric or craft store if you haven't found what you need. They might be able to help you. :-)
can this work for supination?
Could you review a couple of arch cookie products out there? How effective are they compared to OTC arch support insoles?
Can you give me a couple of examples of "arch cookie products" that you have seen please?

Hope it helps.
could probably do the same thing with an old pair of shoes - just cut/grind down the sole into the shape you want...
Its good For flat foot too?
You can make the arch support as high as you want by simply adding more felt.
🤩🤩🤩
