Dr. Berg, thank you for making this video. I am a custom hiking boot maker in the sierra nevada in california and have been using the technique I was taught of forming the material on the last by wrapping the whole she-bang with elastic bandage, all the while wishing I could afford a vacuum press. Your Dad's design is a marvel and I will build one today! I would enjoy a video tour of the rest of your workshop to see any other better mousetraps you have in play.
    thanks again.

Glad it was helpful. My workshop is tiny. That's probably the best mousetrap I have!

    You create amazing work Sir!
I have bilateral club feet and have had numerous operations on my right foot which is the worse foot.
Orthotics have helped me as I walk on the outer edge of my foot. Infact on my heel there is no wear at all, just soft pink skin, as it doesn’t touch the floor. You can imagine the pressure going through the rest of the front outside edge of my foot and here I get corns and really bad callouses.
Over the years I have had orthotics made which have helped. However now I cut a small 1 inch whole in the outer edge and this allows me to balance out a bit of the pressure to 2 areas around the worse pressure point.
I go to the chiropodist less now as the raw callouses are better.
However now when they make my orthotics , they make a really hard shell , and this is very rigid in my boots. They put a few layers of poron on top, but the shell is so rigid , it is just not comfortable. I have tried to make my own , with some insoles and build them up and glues bits together, but the professionals just don’t seem to understand the problem here. I’ve had many made now with the same hard old shell. Originally the outer shell would be firm and quite strong but would have some give in it, so that when you walked , my foot would be held firm but soft and supported as I walked.
I have told, them this problem many times but they keep coming back with the same shell. I have used a dremel tool to modify the orthotic and take some of the hard bulk out and this has a made the orthotic useable .
Wish I could get some of that cork stuff and make my own, but I live in the Uk so might not be able to get that here.
It was nice to watch you work. I am an upholsterer of 35 years and love all crafts.
    💙
Ps…just looked up a product in Uk called Nitrile bonded cork. Is this the same thing that you are using?

I have unilateral clubbed foot and sometimes have had great orthotics and often the ones made by scanning are awful. Too bulky and hard and it looks like I have boats on my feet!

Bump. Your question was never answered and while I myself don’t live in the UK or need this product delivered, I feel bad and know what it’s like to have no answers to a question of this kind. I’m hoping my “BUMP” is enough to get him to see this and possibly answer.
      God bless. Christ is king🙏🏼

Congratulations you use the old method I use several layers on top of each other to make the product. The material I use are of different densities and really takes the shape of the mold I finish them completely different then most of the producers and it really works

had custom orthotics made to sort out my sesamoiditis issue. worked like a charm. the only not-so-nice thing was the price tag of the customs. So, now I am going to find a way to clone the customs so that I can save money.... wishful thinking on my part, it seems.
