    *Have you just watched this video and wished you'd never put that hydrocolloid on?* Because you've put it on an intact or torn blister? Well, don't panic!
    While it's on, it's not doing any harm. *It only becomes a problem when you go to take the Compeed off.*
    So consider just leaving it on for as long as possible until it becomes very loose. Then give it a soak in soapy water to help loosen the remaining adhesive and help you remove it safely.Hope this helps.

    Interesting video. Having just walked 26 miles, I found Compeed did 100% prevent blisters in my case - usually get them in specific locations over much shorter distances. If they're caused by rubbing from socks or shoes, then anything stopping that rubbing on your skin will naturally help.

    Hi, I must say thank you, when I saw this video I already had put the plaster in my blister with roof, but I did not touch it, and after 4 days, it came out without tearing and my blister healed it, I just did what you said , I waited and it was ok.

    Excellent advice. I learned the hard way over a 500 mile hike and made every mistake one can make. If it wasn't for some very good people along the way, I would have never made it. I have become very efficient with sport tape and duct tape. If I had to give one piece of advise, STOP the second you feel a hot spot or ANY discomfort of the feet. You can stop almost any blister, if you pay attention.

      Glad it helped. No doubt the hydrocolloid will help a little as you run, but probably not as much as you think. There's more to making blisters non-painful with ongoing activity than just covering it and protecting it from rubbing. You need to stop the blister-causing forces, which is shear. Essentially, implement the prevention. The way you do this depends on where the blister is on your foot. For example, if it was on the back of your heel, this is what you need to know: www.blister-prevention.com/blogs/prevention/back-of-heel-blister

    • @Blister-Prevention
      @Blister-Prevention  3 года назад +6

      You're not going to like it Yasmin, but the red raw weepy patch created is the exact type of wound a hydrocolloid like Compeed is made for.
      The hydrocolloid bandage you use now needs to be a little bit bigger than the sore. Read this for more details on how long to leave it on for, how to know when to change it...

    Any tips welcomed: I mostly ultra trail run in dry weather, between 35-115 F degrees. I wear Cep short running socks. I never get blisters! I do have calluses on my bunion and big toe, i keep it as soft and small as possible. I ran 85 miles in humid weather and it rained for about 45 minutes but my socks and shoes were soaked. I have had wet feet before running but in drier weather.
    I am going back next year to this event and I want to avoid blisters because i got a blister on each foot on the foot pad while running, i could still run but it was not ideal. The day after it hurt way more just walking and on the flight back it was hurting so much i had to ask for pain killers to the flight attendant. I tried using a needle before i flew back and some fluid came out on one but it just filled up again. Then i saw your videos and didn't do that anymore. Just kept it clean. Used a liquid antiseptic.day 5 now and i can run again. Another thing I did before the race is i applied Happy Toes from Squirrel Nut Butter on my feet but maybe it made it harder to keep my feet dry, my socks and shoes eventually dried out and i changed socks at mile 50.

    Why are hydrocolloid patches ineffective preventively when tape is?
    (I understand they're not designed for that usage and would be a waste of money but why don't they work?)

    • @Blister-Prevention
      @Blister-Prevention  Год назад +1

      The reason hydrocolloids don't work as well as you expect them to is intrinsically tied to the cause of blisters and the misconceptions around this. Blisters aren't caused by rubbing. If they were, taping and Compeed would work brilliantly. You can sustain friction blisters even with tape or Compeed applied. Blisters are actually caused by bone movement relative to the skin surface, and the resultant stretching and distorting of soft tissue - called shear deformation and the mechanical fatigue within skin layers when that shear is repetitive. That mechanical fatigue (the tear under the skin surface) is the initiation of the blister injury which takes up to 2 hours to fill with fluid. Shear deformation is reduced slightly when you have adhesive products like tape and Compeed on your skin - it spreads shear over a larger area thereby reducing its peak. Does that help, Nick?

      It's a deroofed blister, right Nicola? If so, you can use 2 or 3 plasters to cover the area, that shouldn't be a problem.

    You said if you have a very weepy blister, a hydrocolloid bandage is not the best choice. So what would be the best choice instead?

    • @Blister-Prevention

      Light to moderate weeping - hydrocolloid.
      Heavily weepy - island dressing.

      @@Blister-Prevention Thank you! I'm also wondering, should I shower in between changing my hydrocolloid bandages? I've had these same bandages on for maybe three days and they seem very ready to be changed. But I wasn't sure if it'd be okay to remove them, shower, then apply new bandages? Or should I avoid letting the water and soap touch them altogether?

    • @Blister-Prevention
      @Blister-Prevention  2 года назад

      @@Thawah It's a good idea to give it a good wash before you put the next hydrocolloid on. Just to reduce the chance of infection, and because I don't know anything about the severity of your blister or your health status, I'd be inclined to shower with with old one on. Then take your old dressing off, give your foot a little soapy or salty foot bath to clean it up, apply antiseptic and put your new dressing on. Make sense?

    • @Thawah
      @Thawah 2 года назад

    I will be going on a 10 mile hike, and I've applied my hydro bandage to my heel. When I hiked last week, my hydro dressing rolled back because of the friction of my sock and won a nasty fight with my already present blister - ain't cool! Would you advise covering the entire hydro bandage with leukotape to keep it in place, or do I need to only cover the adhesive corners like in the video? Thanks.
