  • This is an amazing lens. I can't wait to try it out on an auto focusing (in video) body like the Nikon D7000. The auto focus speed could be a bit faster but as far as being quiet this lens wins that award hands down (compared to the original 18-270). Most people will want to buy it just for the fact that its smaller and still has that amazing 15x zoom equivalent. The first part is taken with a canon 60D with a 50mm 1.4.

    I owned both and decided to return the PZD one and keep the older one. Yes, the older non-PZD lens is larger (72mm vs 62mm) and heavier and has a noisier focus but gives more color, contrast and sharpness significantly!

    Its a great lens, I only got mine a few months ago and have used it extensively already. Very versatile. Point to note; it does drain the camera battery overnight if left on your camera. (mine is a Canon 77d) I was puzzled about this for quite a while , until I tried leaving my Canon 18-135m stm on overnight, voila no flat battery, i repeated the test with my Canon 10-18mm stm, again no flat battery next day. Put the tamron 18-270mm PZD back on and , yep, you guessed it, flat camera battery in the morning.
    I can only surmise its the PZD that pulling a charge from the camera battery. Also I am not the only one who has found this, I found back up on the internet confirming the same.
    Otherwise a top Lens, I still won't be selling it for a while yet.

    the new pzd, because I like the video function on many of the DSLRs and the new lens is quieter and faster. So for video puposes its much better as well as for nature photography. Another plus is that the newer lens is smaller and lighter and takes a 62mm filter as opposed to a 72mm filter.

    there is always going to be alittle sound when focusing. Atleast the way the cameras are at this point. the PZD is leaps and bounds better as far as noise then many other lenses. a standard 18-55 in video mode is far worse.

    How about trying it on one of the Sony alpha cameras on autofocus :)

    Yes, seeing as a Nikon D3100 is a cropped sensor.

    Even though you removed your comment I was still able to read it. and I disagree. First off if you are doing video you have to realize there will be some noise. also if you are using a canon for video then no matter what you are going to hear noise. Nikons right now are the only ones with a fulltime auto focus. The PZD is a vastly superior lens when it comes to camera stills. Lastly, DON'T USE THE BUILT IN MIC. Use external.

    You also lost the high speed auto focus.

    The image quality isn't going to be that different. The auto focus speed on the new PZD is fantastic and is hands down faster than the original model. Also for video the PZD focus' faster and theres less lens noise.

    why's with the rough sound when you're focusing on PZD in part 2?

    I honestly couldn't tell you. I have never used this sigma lens. I can say that I do like the tamron and I also like tamron's 6 year warranty. Don't read most consumer review sites most of them are fake. Just do alot of research and see what the consensus says. Or go to your local camera store and try out both lenses.

    I realised that the Auto Focus speed isn't great.on my old 18-55mm Nikkor which is about 5 years old I still get better speed and quieter sounds. Why is this?

    how is image quality between the two 18-270's?

  • @photosummit
    @photosummit  13 лет назад

    Blank- very little distortion at the wide end, certainly no more than your 18-55, I think there's less. Pop Photo and others should have more qualitative reviews any day now.
