If I'm going to bother with hard surface modeling, I'd just use Autodesk Alias instead of a plugin for Maya. It'd be really nice if you could make a video about Alias and other hard surface packages like ICEM Surf, or even high-end parametric CAD packages like NX, and CATIA.
I've used Alias for a year and couldn't get close to the results I can achieve in Poly or Fusion360. And unfortunately I've only found one or two hard surface artists that use alias effectively. It seems too clunky and not well optimized. I spent 4k out of pocket last year to have a license of the concept version, since I'm a self taught designer I cant get a student license. So this is the main reason for not using it. But your millage may vary and I'd like to hear how you use it?
@@BryanOLearyJr There is a 1-year free license to use both Autodesk's Alias AutoStudio (which includes Alias, Maya, CreateVR [VR design app integrated within Alias and Maya], and VRED Design), and you can also check it out with a 1-year free license of VRED Professional. Each of these software carries a $50k per seat license for three years, or $100k for the both of them combined. The main reason I use Alias, is because it's derived from the old Alias/PowerAnimator software from the '80s/'90s, was used in my favorite movies, and for making vehicles using reference. Mostly 3D planes and vehicles, I'm not good by any stretch, I'm just trying to get used to using an actual surfacing application like Alias/ICEM Surf, even if it's way above what I need and can probably just do in Maya NURBS, or Modo's NURBS.
