  • Awesome little canyon with a handful of rappels. Getting to this one requires a capable 4WD vehicle since the roads can have deep sand.
    We went the very last day of February and in some spots, the road still had snow but the moisture actually helped with the sand. As far as water in the canyon, there were some pools but we were able to avoid them.
    From where you park, getting to the head of the canyon was a short walk and we were able to cut out and exit before hitting the river. More than likely will return and try the 'French Canyon' exit when it warms.

    Such a beautiful canyon, I did a fat man's misery loop and checked out the falls below. 100% recommend doing that it was so pretty and we'll worth it. Exited out French which was very pretty too. Next time you go I recommend doing that!

    Big fan of your vids. Kudos on Totem blocking your partner down for safety and setting rope lengths.

    Great video, as usual. I appreciated you showing the "shortcut" exit, which I was unfamiliar with. Also, the bypass of the first few pothols was an interesting alternative. I think they're worth getting your feet wet (though maybe not in March! :D ). I, for one, don't see the four-ish raps of Rock Canyon as sufficiently warranting the hardship to get there but combined with other local attractions, it's a wonderland. I did the route in summer 2018 with my daughter and some friends. We then backpacked down Parunuweap to Fat Man's, climbed up in to explore, then exited out French Canyon (two days, two nights). Incredible country and an unforgettable trip. Planning on returning next year with more of my kids and extended family. For now, its remoteness and inaccessibility preserve its "hidden gem" status!

    Beautiful canyon. Looks like it was well worth the drive. You’ve got to go back when it’s warmer. I want to see the parts you avoided to keep your feet dry. 😀

      Thanks for watching! We intend to return when it warms and take a different route out, we'll make sure to get our feet wet!

    Any thoughts on the road right around now? We’re heading down there to take French Canyon to Parunuweap. (I need to watch it when we get to better WiFi so the resolution is higher and I can see the roads better.). Taking a lifted 4Runner with off-road tires

      That'll be a cool trip for sure. With the vehicle you mentioned, I think you'd be fine. Bring some shovels, 2x4s, and maybe let some air out your tires...so a small air compressor to re inflate.

      UFIRST OUTDOORS we ended up doing it. The roads caused a lot of anxiety, but we don’t drive deep sand often. And since we made the plans at the hotel on the way, we didn’t have time to get the right supplies. But the car came through. They’re definitely more dry and loose than when you went. I need to go back with my canyoneering gear and check out rock canyon and misery.

    Curious why you have your autoblocker above your rappel device versus below it?

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Год назад +1

      A problem with autoblocker below your device is that if you wrap it too tightly it can bind preventing the rappel, essentially getting you stuck. Having it above makes it easy to deal with if it binds, simply lock off and undo AB/redo and continue the rappel.

    Where do you get your knee and elbow pads?

      Any sports store would have them..or amazon..they are just volleyball knee/elbow pads. Cheap and work great.
