It is fascinating to me that you have working components of this Elmo system. The amount of technology and effort needed to create visuals with accompanying sound, just prior to sound striped super 8mm film, and/or concurrent with early video just boggles the mind. Thanks for this!

    Hi
I stumbled across your video d scribing this Elmo system for sound synchronisation. I have a similar system manufactured by the Japanese company Chinon. As you say following the demise of super 8 sound cartridges we find ourselves looking again to these old synchronisation Systems. It can prove challenging to acquire all the required components of such a system...like you it took me several years to track down the components of my Chinon system. Thankfully I managed to find the special cable to connect camera and tape recorder.....I didn't have to make my own as you did... congratulations on that achievement. Great to watch your video on this topic of super 8 synced sound.

This is what I remember about the ingenius methods used to sync sound to striped film there where synchronisers here in the UK one called the syncrodeck made by Craven electronics another was the Carol Sync sound a box you had to modify your projector using a mercury switch to get it to run with a reel to reel recorder you can find them in old Movie Maker magazeens not forgetting Full Coat magnetic Super 8 Film
